LIVE From The Woods 2020 - Let's hear stories and see some pictures!

@Nytracker, I am very sorry for your loss. -
I figured that there were some good ones out there. I think Moho has some of the best names so far! I want to hear some of the stories on how their names came about at the next GTT. I actually mapped out all the stands for my wife, so when I tell her “I’m going to sit in Jason’s double”, she has a vague idea of where I will be, just in case.

Whenever I go to someone else's hunting camp, invariably they have names for all their tree stand locations - sometimes the normal like "Food Plot Stand" or "Creekside Stand" But at my Father-in-laws camp they have "The Motel", not to be confused with "The Hotel" and several other head scratchers. My cousin's camp have over 35 stands, all with unique names that they all recall on just a mention. Even on my own plot, we have names for all the stands just so we know what/where we are talking about. I've got Fred's Backyard (located overlooking by 800 yards my neighbors backyard), Jason's Double (he bought it and set it, so it's his, although I sit in it more than he does!), Creekside (you can guess), the Remington (it's made by Remington), 19 Point stand (Total count of antler points harvested while in that stand, so far, it changes with each additional harvest), Back Corner (location and the second most uncomfortable stand we have), the Stand Stand (no seat, so you have to stand while in it), the Hemorrhoid (the #1 most uncomfortable stand to be in), the Archery Stand (ideally set up for archery, but I shot a big 8 point buck out of it with gun last year). Sometimes, year to year, we may move a stand and usually the name sticks with the move. Jason's Double has been in three locations, but it has always been Jason's Double. Blinds do change names based on location - Pond Blind, Field Blind, Pines Blind, etc. What are your tree stands named and how did they get that name?

I think you should leave them nailed on one side always. Wood will shrink and swell depending on weather factors. If you nail down both side you have cracked boards and or battens. I have an Amish built barn, all board and batten. None of the battens are nailed on both sides.

You would probably like “Chicken Riggies”, a local CNY dish, originated in Utica but popular in every Italian restaurant around here.

Out on home turf for the first time for two weeks. Hunted at my cousins camp last weekend, it was nice to be at deer camp, always a fun time! Good luck to all today. Going to sit for a while, then push some small pieces of our property. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk -
Here is our traditional Sicilian Christmas cookie, Mastaciolle, is how my Mother spelled it in Sicilian dialect. Mastazolle in proper Italian. The nut and honey mixture: Rolling out the sweet inside and wrapping in pastry: Finished product: Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

I like the sweet tang from the eggplant against the sauce and the melted cheese, along side a plate of pasta, it’s a winner dish when done right. The breading needs to be a little crispy, it’s easy for the eggplant to get soggy. Crappyice, that parm looks awesome!

A Pleasant Surprise on a Knife Order
Otto replied to Splitear's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I am always looking at knives on EBay, lots of vintage and custom stuff there. I bid on a few, but seem to lose by $1 at the very end. Probably just as well. -
They had TShirts too.

Happy Birthday Splitear!

School me here please. I have a smooth bore slug barrel with a rifled choke on my 12 gauge Remington 870. The Accutips have been accurate at the range and in the field, not nearly as good as anything fired out of the Savage 220 though. Should I be using something else?

Tully Ag Center https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Agricultural-Service/Tully-AG-Center-110876132309633/ or Deruyter Co-op https://www.deruytercoop.com/home.html will have what you need. Seeds to fertilizer, lime, etc. Both have great, friendly people.

I have a fair supply of Remington Accu-tips if you need a second choice.

Those look delicious! I’ve had them before, but my Mother never made them. Her specialty was Mustazzola, chopped toasted hazelnuts with honey, wrapped in a pastry. Some people add bits of dried fruit, etc. When my wife and I make them later this week, I will post a picture. What part of Sicily is your family from? We are from the Mt Etna area, Linguaglossa. Great grandparents were from Palermo. Boun Natale Piasano!

You made me look up "Prima Nochte"! I learned something today. @The_Real_TCIII - you want to do that with a buck? In the field? -

I might not wait for St Patty’s Day this year!

I have done this one several times, excellent! https://honest-food.net/corned-venison-recipe/

I have the same issue. I plan to take my light duty safe out of a closet it is in, install a heavier door with lock and deadbolt, plus install wall mounted locking gun racks on the wall. I should be able to at least triple the number of guns I can store! https://lockinggunracks.com/9-shotgun-rifle-rack/

I have been going to a local craft store and picking out my own 24 beers usually runs me ~$100. Last time I got a pre-selected 24 pack for $35, it was pretty good, but a few too many sours and a couple of seltzer’s mixed in, which are not my favorites.
-
Well the Syracuse Costco does not have the Clown Shoes beer sampler. They had a Stone Brewery Sampler for $30, so she got that instead. I’ll suffer through I guess.
-
Just told my wife to get two on the next Costco run too. Looks like a good mix.

During bow I always have the shooting rail tied up behind me over my head. I am always strapped in with safety vest. I don’t want anything in my way while shooting with a bow, could be standing or sitting depending on the shot. During gun, I keep them down and lay the gun across it so it is close by and ready to shoot. I don’t think any of them are too low so I must have adjusted them when installed.
