  1. You have to corn a venison roast! Awesome and very easy to do. Tell your butcher to save you both football roasts.
  2. I hope karma is properly adjusted to his account each and every season. I have a group of guys that lease property adjacent to mine and we allow tracking, all it takes is a phone call.
  3. It really does stink! Why would someone let an injured animal suffer like that? Especially a so called "hunter"!
  4. Dam it! I have been hunting afternoons. I guess a morning hunt is in store! Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  5. I have had a Spypoint out since February on the same lithium batteries. Picture quality is just ok, but I get lot of pics and have not touched it since then. I don’t know about the trigger speed or sensitivity. There is a setting for sensitivity, check that, maybe you have it set on low?
  6. Thanks to early voting and a nice deer from you!
  7. Yesterday’s excitement and today’s warm weather put me in a stand again for a three hour afternoon sit. Not a single deer seen, but too nice to rake leaves.
  8. @Enigma I ordered a set of meat hooks and they arrived today. Will try it, hopefully - VERY SOON.
  9. My boat is still out, so if you have a real urge to go, LMK. Saturday looks tough for deer, but it is rut season, so I am torn!
  10. Oh, see you already went fishing! Ignore my comment in the LIVE thread!
  11. I am not the best knife sharpener in the world, but I would probably try a kitchen steel rod and make some gentle strokes to it, maintaining about a 30 degree pitch. If it is really dull now, it should not hurt it. There is a knife store in the village of Camillus that will sharpen any blade for $1.00. And it comes out really sharp! Not sure what he does back there but it is quick. Maybe try a local pro?
  12. I just bought this gun a couple of weeks ago. So much fun to shoot! Can't wait to use it this season. Thompson Center Arms, Renegade, Left Hand, .54 caliber The gentleman I bought it from said he bought it new in early 70's and put less than 50 rounds through it over the years. 13. Fun hunt tonight! Sat in the archery stand starting at 2:30. Nothing at all until almost 4:45. Saw a body walk across some thick brush on my left. Got my bow up and waited, A doe walked out and stopped with just her head showing. Waited a couple of minutes and she didn’t like what she saw/heard/smelled.....she turned around and walked slowly away. My heart was racing waiting for the shot! Turned to opposite side and looked into field and saw a 8 point buck walking across about 100 yards away. He stopped 10 yards in front of my tower blind, which I had not sat in yet, thinking it would be more of a gun spot. I actually thought about sitting in there tonight with the wind, but I don’t have a chair in there yet. Watched him feed for a bit and then he made his way towards me. He walked to within 30 yards of me, but that is not a shot I am willing to take. He kept going and when he hit my scent cone stopped and stared my way for a what seemed like 10 minutes. Finally he walked away going back where he came from and I watched him go across the field and out of view. By now it is 5:15 so I lowered my bow and pack and very quietly got down on the ground. I walked out to the field to head back and three more deer were in the field and blew out of there. STUPID move on my part, I should have gone on the back trail and around the pond, but I wanted to save steps on the walk back. STUPID. Fun night, looking forward to letting one fly!
  14. Recent trail cam pics - I should be out hunting!
  15. No expert here, so for what it is worth..... It also depends on the cut of the meat and your cooking method! If you slow braise a tough piece of meat it will get tender eventually. If you just toss another piece on the grill and cook it fast it will REALLY depend on the cut and how it was handled. Venison is not beef, it needs a different cooking process. Most of the time. I cook Venison back straps the same way I would cook a beef tenderloin. Usually they are smaller, so less cooking time. But I would bring both up to 124 and let rest for 10 minutes before serving. I’m not sure why I am getting onto his pissing match, but you are both right in your own way! Do what works for you and if you are happy with the result then continue to do that. If I was telling someone how to process a deer, I would say let it hang for a bit, if you can put it in the right temperature for the right amount of time. IF you need to process right away, then do it and remember that when you go to cook that meat. My preference is to let it hang for at least 2 or 3 days, even if I have to quarter it and put it in the fridge. PS: I heard that Rinella podcast and that guy was spot on. Enigma I just read your post and I am going to look up Tender stretch. Always willing to learn new things.
  16. @dinorocks What a cool story, and that blind looks awesome. Way to build a fort in the woods!
  17. Way to go Rob! Beautiful deer and a good story to boot. Now get FISHDO and his son onto those deer!
  18. Did not hunt early, went out around 10am and sat in “archery stand”. Saw nothing for over two hours, so I decided to switch stands and go to the back corner stand. Bumped a doe on the walk in, she only ran for 20 yards or so and stopped, kept looking back towards me. After a few minutes she slowly left. Sat in stand until 4pm with no sightings. This was my first time in this stand, there is a good vantage point to several areas. I feel like it will be a good stand, the only problem is to access it you need to walk through pretty much my entire property, no easy in easy out. Not sure if I should hunt it early morning, mid day or late afternoon.
  19. Hunted this morning in Jason’s Double. Had planned to stay just until 9am and then go to work. Had a pair of crazy deer again running circles and chasing each other, fun entertainment! One of them eventually came to within 20 yards of my stand and laid down close by. Small deer so I let it lay there. After 20 minutes or so Momma comes by and the little one follows her, then they both lay down about 75 yards from my stand in clear view. She seemed to always be looking my way, but if I moved slow and easy, she didn’t seem to mind. Ended up staying until 10:30am when I had to go. I grunted a couple of times and that got her up, although she did not leave the area. She did move off to some thick brush, so I lowered my bow and pack down and started to climb down. All was good until the third step when the safety rail came down with a bang. They both took off tails waving. Fun day with no other sightings, but I feel it is getting closer. Going to try another stand in the morning.
  20. It is shotgun only where I do most of my hunting. When shooting at game, I never notice the recoil, but when sighting in I know will have some bruises!
  21. Or I see him sooner than that and eliminate his pain!
