CNN is a very anti-gun biased news reporting agency. They've looked at the Colorado thing from every angle & inside out - keep going back to gun control. Only time they have reported about the killer's mental state has been concerning his insanity defense. Have despised CNN since the 1st Iraqi war when the reporters where broadcasting the allied movements from their elevated hotel suite. All the enemy had to do was tune-in to CNN and plan their counter attacks.

And the person that got the patent is a millionaire............. Just kidding, great idea!! -
For those of you that follow Alsheimer's predictions for the rut, don't believe his is out yet. This link should be very similiar to his; http://prohuntersjournal.com/article/?a=27 Now throw in the weather trend that states throught Halloween it'll be warmer & drier than normal. Usually read this every year for informational purposes only. Interesting reading, but....

You can buy just the bags also w/o any seasonings. Simply add your own gravy, soup mix, veggies, etc Works great for turkey breast, venison roasts & most any meats. Been around for some time.

Let's see - you get the DEC, legislature & lobbyists involved............... You'd think they'd be talking to one another, wouldn't you? The old shell game!
-
I have very strong opinions about how you food plotters justify them or the real purpose of them. Won't go there, would immediately spark an additional 10 page attack on my views. If you want to do them & can justify the time, expense & efforts - by all means have at it!!!! I prefer not to for various reason, mostly personal choice.

From what I understand... White-tail Mgmt plan included the Oct youth gun hunt & was signed/enacted by the DEC Commissioner. But - There is legislation in front of Cumo over-riding it which was neatly packaged within the crossbow extension law. Not sure if he has signed that yet..? Still confused? Government at work or is that "work in progress"?

They are funny, and sad, and true, and pathetic, and................. Just choot me! -
For me, other than the obvious BBQ, it's the fresh local tomatoes, cucumbers & corn on the cob. Can add the fresh berries too; strawberries, raspberries or black caps. Crap (produce) they sell in the stores sucks!! And of course my one, true sin - ice cream, specifically the ice cream pie the new local stand makes.

More power to those of you than invest the time, effort & money while still enjoying the endeavor!! Ditto for me: "And the truth is, the deer will still be there to hunt when fall rolls around, food plots or not."

Lets see some more trail camera photos - 2012 version!

Yeah, I tried re-working that photo also, just too bleached out with the AM sun. I'm not 100% sure, but pretty confident he is same buck in photo below from last year. Bucks aren't that numerous or get overly large racks where I hunt. -
Bulldozer, tractor, financially restrictive, labor intensive, 20+ acres and for big bucks as you both specified as your goal. To each his own! Guess I'll sit in my tree & take what Mother Nature temps me with.
-
Question to you food-plotters; When, if ever do you reach a point of diminishing returns? Doesn't the labor, time, equipment & overall investment ($$) ever get too overwhelming? Forget the "Herd Mgmt" aspect! Curious minds want to know...

One in rear is buck I get the annual one-time encounter with during the rut. One year it was a 120yd shot with MZ thru trees - missed! Another year he chased a doe under my stand after watching him dogginge her & a smaller buck for 1.5hrs - missed! Another year he came in to my can call, stopped 30yds behind a tree. When he finally stepped out I was shaking pretty good - missed. Last year opening day of gun season saw him bounding directly away from me - mo shot! First year I saw him he was a decent 8pt, maybe 3 years old. Last year he was a 9-10 pt. Other than the rut, he's really evasive & nocturnal. -

Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!! Highly unusual for the brush bucks on my property to get to this size. Had encounters 4 years & believe buck in background is maybe 6-7 years old! Can see my new ladder stand location on right 1/2 of photo, 10-12 yards!!! Prefer north facing trail cams, but had no choice with this location. -
Pre-ethanol, most manufacturer's of 2-cycle equipment suggested 89 octane gasoline in thier manuals. So, I guess it wouldn't be a stretch to use 91 octane. Not too sure about the 94....? After 1st carb issue with chainsaw, began using either Starbrite/Star Tron or the newer Sta-Bilt. Still have issues. Always use atleast Sta-Bilt in 5gal cans for ATV, mowers & log splitter. As of yet (knock on wood),... Haven't had any problem with those pieces of equipment. Think my problem was compounded by poor quality & lower octane gasoline. Gas prices for 87 octane was over $4/gal, new distributor (Valero) underselling local stations, defaulted to cheaper 87 octane... Damages done, but now use top name-brand gasoline & 89 octane. BTW - Picked up my Stihl chainsaw & the mechanic said ethanol problems keeps him adjusting & rebuilding carbs all day!
-
Sorry, never win a spelling bee - ethanol... Anyone else having problems with their small engine equipment since the switch to 10% ethanol? Seems to be an annual carb adjustment if not rebuild for my chainsaws. Also have a large trimmer w/blade that has same issues. Been using Sta-bilt &/or the special additive for ethanol to no avail. The repair shops must be loving this situation. I'm NOT !LOL

2012 NY Hunting Season Rule Changes
nyslowhand replied to HuntingNY's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
http://www.dec.ny.gov/regulations/81317.html About 1/3 the way down the page defines areas & dates. Adopt new section 6 NYCRR 1.13 "Deer management focus areas" to read as follows: -
Sportsmen Strongly Support DEC adoption of Yearling Buck Protection
nyslowhand replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Very biased & one-side statements made in that article! Clearly intented to brag about AR &/or sway the non-believers. Assuming it's true: aren't the 350,000 individuals in favor of AR approx 1/2 of NY big game license holders? So...the squeaky wheel does get the grease... If you want AR and only dream of trophy bucks - have at it! Don't tell me what size deer/buck I can harvest! Yeah, I typically pass on spikes or obvious young bucks. Sure, I've shoot several button bucks not knowing. If it's late in the season & I haven't seen many deer - maybe that 4 pt is beginning to look pretty inviting. Whitetails were on this continent long before humans & will be here long after we've destroyed it. Don't try to improve on Mother Nature's plan! -
Okay, it's official - Whitetail Mgmt implemented

Sorry, you're correct. Just assumed Columbus Day was still the real date of the 12th. Forgot about this holidays being changed to the 2nd Monday. -

Who else agrees with this statement?
nyslowhand replied to Deerthug's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Agree 200%! The way it was meant to be by our founding fathers & should continue to be! In reality, is it true? -
Posted this before, but here it is again. Per eMail from DEC dated 6/18/12: "The proposed big game regulatory changes are still pending executive (DEC Commissioner) approval. They never needed to be acted on by the Legislature. The public comment period ended May 21, but the commissioner still needs to sign off. Changes cannot be considered final until this happens. It is our hope this can happen in time for the changes to become effective this fall, the exact time line is out of our hands right now. Tentative changes include: - Youth firearms season Columbus weekend (statewide) - SZ bow opening Oct 1 - Adjust NZ muzz and reg season start dates - add late bow season in NZ - Allow DMPs in NZ bow and early muzz - add units 3A, 4G, 4O, 4P, 4R, 4S, and 4W to mandatory AR units - Simplify description of area open for January firearms season to include Suffolk Co - Adjust bears seasons statewide to stay consistent with deer season changes - Correct a particular road name in the boundary description for WMUs 5A and 5C Art Kirsch Sr. Wildlife Biologist NYS DEC, Bureau of Wildlife 6274 E.
