Couldn't prove it by me, Wolc, because those are the first and only LE walleyes I ever ate...Maybe I'll go up again later in the summer and make a taste test..

I didn't get my invitation...Must have got lost in the mail...<<sigh>>...

Probably because you look like a bambi killer...

NO... The main advantage of smaller cartridges in the military is because a soldier can carry more rounds... A guy who can still walk after a solid hit can still kill you....A military round should at least incapacitate an enemy soldier with a single solid torso hit...Any of the .30s, including the 7.62x 39, will do that. and the higher velocity smaller caliber rounds like the 5.56 will also do it most of the time...The .30 carbine....It is an effective round within it's limitations, but not nearly as effective as commonly used rounds for true battle rifles, like the M1, L1A1 or modern assault rifles...There is a good reason why the military has brought a lot of M 14s out of mothballs in the wide open spaces of the Middle east and Afghanistan.. A battle rifle should be capable of effectively engaging enemy forces out to 600 + yards...An assault rifle should do it to at least 300 yards...The carbine is stretching it to engage an enemy at 100 yards, and it is getting pretty anemic at that range...
-
There are also many accounts of bad guys taking multiple hits with the carbine, not only NK/Chinese in Korea, but Japs in WWII, and staying on their feet....Not so with the 30-06..Solid torso hit and down they go.....
-
The carbine had it's place.....Light to carry for non front line troops like artillerymen, and also very handy for close quarters combat like jungle fighting and house to house combat....Lots of firepower.... But for combat in relatively open country at any distance over 50 yards, it wasn't a pimple on an M-1's ass...
-
The Korea vets that I talked to sometimes spoke of holding the M-3 Grease Guns sideways, which might make sense facing a human wave attack...However I can see no advantage of holding an M-1 sideways...It would be much more effective fired upright the way it was intended to be fired....Also, the BARS tended to freeze up in the subzero temps...Many guys preferred just to carry the M-1 with extra bandoliers..They go BANG when you need them to.. " There's a thousand gooks comin' through the pass playing burp gun boogey all over my ass.. I'm movin on... I'll soon be gone.... Well it ain't no joke when your M-1 s broke, I'm movin on "

I would have caught one big one,,,,Hehehe,,,,

Happy 29th, Paula....<< SMOOCH >>………. -
My buddy's wife took a pict of me with the biggest eye..Hopefully she'll send it to me and I can get one of you computer wizards to post it for me.. MEANWHILE, back at the OASIS, I fried up a walleye dinner tonite for The Mermaid and I and we discovered that Lake Erie walleyes are just as delicious as Canisteo river walleyes, Chemung River walleyes, Oneida Lake walleyes, Candadian walleyes, and any OTHER walleyes I have ever eaten...

No problem....Lawdwaz and I will come down skinny dipping !

I just got back from Dunkirk late this afternoon....My partner and I had a super trip....Totaled 18 keeper walleyes with the best fish at 28" and 7 lb. 11 oz, plus several others at 5 lb plus... Many thanks to Treeguy for steering us in the right direction... We started the trip out with a little jigging, which turned up no walleyes , but I have USURPED Turkeyfeathers as the sheepshead king....I landed about a dozen sheepies in about an hour of fishing, including a couple of real toads, on a black and purple bucktail jig... All of our walleyes came on bottom bouncers and worm harnesses in 28 to 40 feet of water..
-
I'm headed out shortly to Dunkirk for a couple of days of walleye fishing with my old fishing buddy Howie... We plan to fish this afternoon, tomorrow, and Wednesday morning and return home Wed afternoon... Hopefully we'll get into some marble eyes...We are armed with the latest fishing info, courtesy of Treeguy...

Glad to see that Stormy is still standing guard by the gate...I have a date to go walleye fishing on Lake Erie with Stormy, Old man River, Bill Schmidt and maybe a couple of other guys with similar names...I'll keep y'all posted, unless they get together and throw me overboard... -

I have seen Biz's dad and he is much better looking than Biz....It would not surprise me in the least to learn that Biz is TF's illegitimate son..... Of course, TF's daughter is drop dead gorgeous, but I credit that to her lovely mother... -
