According to what I read, Norma MRP and Alliant RL 22 are the same powder..

Yeah...You should see some of the blank stares I get when I mention my 9.3x62... It used to be that way with the .280... People would say " What's that , something like the .270 ? " I'd say....." Ummm...Yeah.."..

No doubt a fusion would do a fine job with any good broadside shot on an elk..Shoot 'em in the lungs and they die just like anything else. However, you may not be fortunate enough to get a nice broadside shot at a standing elk. Elk are much bigger than deer and they are just flat out tougher to kill, unless hit perfectly. What if the only shot you get at a bull is quartering away ? You might have to drive a bullet through a lot of tissue to reach the vitals. It makes sense to me to use a more heavily constructed bullet that will smash heavy bones and penetrate far enough to reach the vitals on a ranging shot or other less than perfect shot angle.

It's not the "Unsafe Act", Chef... For many years NY has required that a semi-auto to be used for big game must have a capacity of 6 rounds or less, limiting the magazine capacity to 5 rounds.

I love shooting my Garand...5 shot en-bloc clips are available from Midway and other places to make it " New York Legal"...

If I didn't reload I'd probably use a .308 Win or a 30-06 simply because of the variety and availability of factory loads available. I am not a fan of the belted magnums. They are by nature not very efficient, and burn a lot more powder ( along with increased recoil and muzzle blast) in relationship to their increase in performance. They do have their niche, which is usually best served by using heavy for caliber bullets at long range.. However, for most shooting at ranges of 400 yards or less, standard chamberings will do the same thing with less powder, commotion, expense, and meat damage. My personal favorite...The .280 Remington.

I especially like older, powder efficient cartridges like the 7 x 57 and the 9.3 x 62.. I admire the utility and versatility of the .308, 30-06 and .270Win, but EVERYBODY uses one of them..!

Or kinda like using a condom...Not quite the same, but less complications..

I used to feel your pain... My wife was/is the same way.. Fortunately I divorced her 10 years ago.... << big SMILE>>...

Barrel length is probably the biggest factor in muzzle blast...18 or 19 inch 7mm08 barrels are LOUD !! Noticeably louder than a 30-06 with a 22 or 24 inch barrel.

Oh my..... She's been a NAUGHTY girl.... She must be PUNISHED !! I think she should be sentenced to spend a week with me in the celebrity suite down at Mabel's House of Pleasure and Pain... " Hello, Mabel's House of Pleasure, Master Pygmy speaking.." " Theresa ? Sorry, she can't come to the phone...She's tied up right now..." <<click>>

A lot of folks are just squeamish about eating the "innards"....

I have only ever hunted with one muzzleloader, a TC Hawken .50 cal. that my ex-wife bought me for my birthday in 1973. I used it for years with the factory sights until my eyes got too old for them. I installed an aftermarket tang peep sight, which I still use today.. For years I shot PRBs with 90 grains of 2F blackpowder or pyrodex and a #11 cap. A few years back, as a result of an elk hunt, I switched to a Noexcuses 460 grain conical with 80 grains of 3F 777 and a CCI magnum #11 cap.. It works as well on deer as it did on elk and shoots plenty flat and accurate out to 100 yards, which is as far as I will shoot with it.. In fact I don't think I ever took a shot at game with it over 75 or 80 yards.

Yup, that's a Chinese backup alarm. If you back up too close to something it makes a loud SQUEALING sound...

I enjoy using all of toys.. This year , as usual, I have carried my 7mm08 most of the time, and have shot 2 deer with her..She is just such a SWEET THANG to carry in the deer woods.. However, I also took my M1 Garand out a couple of days, and my 9.3 x 62 a couple of days, but got no shooting with either of them.. JUST TO BE FAIR, I think I'll hunt with my trusty old M 70 .280 rem for the rest of rifle season. I haven't shot a deer with it since my CO mule deer hunt last year.. I think I have heard her whining from the gun safe, wanting to go hunting... She just keeps saying " Take ME, Clarkie.... You KNOW you love me...." And I just happen to have a box of 140 grain TTSX reloads left over from my Colorado hunt last year...

???????...I'm betting that there are LOTS of "predatory animals" in Albany... County judges do a lot of editorializing in their treatment of pistol permits and it's a damn shame that they are allowed to take such liberties with OUR liberties.. I was told that here in Steuben, there are only two types of permits..One to possess a handgun in your home and one to carry concealed. everybody I know locally who has a permit is licensed to carry concealed..

I have not had a shot opportunity at an adult deer all season until Friday , Dec 4th.. Since then I have killed a buck and a big doe, plus could have shot another buck, if I hadn't already got one.. Go hunting...You may not see any deer, but if you stay home your mother-in-law might decide to come over and visit..
-
Simple is best in my opinion....I just slice it crossways about 3/8" thick, dust it with flour, salt and pepper and fry it in butter over medium heat until golden brown...
-
I'm finally seeing movement during legal shooting hours.. I killed a buck Friday afternoon, and then saw another buck plus a big ol' dry doe yesterday evening..The reason I know she was dry was because she rode home with me in the truck.

The Nuge can go suck a bug, as far I'm concerned, Doc.. As for The Grateful Dead, I am not a Dead Head, but I do like some of their stuff.. As a child of the 60's, who can NOT like Casey Jones..?? " Driving my train....High on cocaine..."
-
SO, TF, you're a Dead Head !! And all this time I have suspected that you were a pencil necked geek like Doc and Fasteddie......<<<hehehe, JUST KIDDING, guys>>....

Me neither, Paula...I thought this was a thread for Jerry Garcia fans...

I'm not especially squeamish, but I draw the line at eating testicles or brains...Unfortunately , they are very closely related in the male of the species..When one kicks IN the other kicks OUT... I have tried tongue and do not like the texture...I'll eat heart and liver all day... Reminds me of watching my Inuit guide, George Konana, dismembering a bull caribou I had shot...he was telling me and my buddy about what the Inuits used each part of the caribou for.. When he cut off the penis, I asked " GEORGE, what do the Inuits use THAT part for ? " His answer was...." Not much.."......

There are factory loads available loaded with Barnes X type bullets..Barnes Vor-tex comes to mind, but I believe there are others..I'm no authority on factory loads. The only factory loaded centerfire rifle ammo I have bought in the last 30 years was a box of Corelocks that I purchased to break in the barrel of my 7mm08 Mountain Rifle when it was new..
