  1. He's wearing his fluorescent orange thong, Biz... Please don't ask me how I know that...
  2. There are some common misconceptions about some of the premium bullets.. Nosler partitions are actually a very fast expanding bullet. The front expands quickly and they tend to shed all of the lead in the nose. However, the rear section stays intact and keeps penetrating, usually retaining about 60% of the bullet weight..Entrance holes from partitions are usually bigger than exits..I have a 160 grain 7mm partition at hand that penetrated about 2 feet of Alaska bull moose and still weighs 105 grains. Barnes X type bullets expand well, but don't cause the violent tissue disruption of some lead bullets. They do raise merry hell along their path, however, retaining nearly 100% of their weight and nearly always exiting, leaving about a 2" exit hole which results in a blood trail that Stevie Wonder could follow. I've shot perhaps 20 game animals now with Barnes bullets, one moose, one caribou and the rest deer, and they kill as well and as quickly as the Nosler Ballistic tips that I used for years prior. As far as I am concerned there is NO down side to using barnes bullets on any size game animals, as long as they group well in your rifle. They are not cheap, but neither are other premium bullets made by Nosler, Swift, Woodleigh, and other manufacturers.
  3. Good shooting, Dan ! Nice to see the old warhorse is still in action..

    Tag soup

I would love a nice kettle of tag soup, as long as it is made from the tags from Miranda Lambert's undergarments...
  5. Nice buck, Larry... CONGRATS, my friend !! I killed one also....Skinny little 4 point, NO drag at all , shot him in the food plot, drove the truck right up to him and dragged his pathetic little butt right up into the bed..!! I passed one up today in PA that was twice as big because I could not be sure he met their silly AR requirements.. Over all, I'm happy as a clam and I am going to sleep in tomorrow morning and snuggle up to the Mermaid..I may even shave so she might let me kiss her !
  6. Rob... It may be her....It is within the realm of possumbility...
  7. I have NO personal experience with them, but the son of one of my hunting buddies bought a Stoeger semi auto a couple of years ago and is very impressed with it.. Aside from that, I am a huge fan of Rem 1100s, and the Beretta and Benelli semis are very highly rated..

    Beer

I am a beer snob also..I only drink COLD... Unless I can't get cold, then I'll settle for COOL... Unless I can't get cool, then I'll settle for AMBIENT TEMP... Unless I can't get ambient temp, then I'll settle for PISS WARM... I draw the line at HOT, however...After all, I AM fussy about what beer I drink...
  9. It's been awhile since I picked up anything heavier than a 30 pack.. Actually, about 10 years ago I picked up a fat girl down at the local watering hole, but we'll both deny it under oath...
  10. I thought that also, stone, but I was mistaken...It opens Saturday Dec 5th..
  11. I got a brief glimpse of one deer opening day.. However my buddy hunting the same property saw 11 deer (flatheads) and 3 bears.. I'm going back down Saturday to try to fill one of my doe permits.. The boys should have them moving around pretty good then.. I also remember he days when we used to see lots of deer opening day.. No more, although it's not uncommon to see 10 or 15 on opening day..
  12. BUMMER ! Glad to hear that your lovely bride is OK...
  13. Oh dear....Where are my manners ? Colin..Welcome to our forum ! There is lots of good information and entertainment to be had here. Just don't try to beat my time with Growalot and Paula, our resident love goddesses.....<<SMILE>>...
  14. Great report and pictures, Colin ! Glad I could participate in your hunt in a small way.. Kim and I have shared some great adventures over the years... I've always been envious of his rifle.. It is identical to mine, in fact I ordered them both at the same time, but his has always been a tack driver and easy to load for, while mine has always delivered mediocre accuracy. Perhaps next time I work up a load for him, I'll just switch rifles and he'll never know the difference...<<grin>>.....
  15. It's an oxymoron. Like jumbo shrimp, legally drunk, and honest politician, among others...<<GRIN>>...
  16. Only 4 bucks weighed in at the Campbell Legion deer pool so far, Jerry... Best one a 176 lb. 8 pt. from Bradford...
  17. Yeah, Biz, and then the next week is open for antlered AND antlerless...
  18. Nope....Two weeks as usual, at least in the unit I hunt. One change, this year doe permits won't be valid for the first week. Bears are legal the first 6 days, but I don't get a permit because I don't know what I'd do with one of the damn things if I shot one..I've had chances at 2 or 3 big ones over the last few years. Cool to see them but I have no desire to shoot one.
  19. I agree, Biz....Another stupid antiquated regulation that should be eliminated. I remember talking to a PA resident 40 years ago about this..This fellow had no religious objections to the Sunday hunting ban, but supported it because " IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY ".... I asked him why he thought it was a good idea . He said " I think the deer need a rest "... I felt like grabbing him by the neck and screaming " Holy s***, Chuck, the GD SEASON is only TWO WEEKS LONG !! "... Just shows you what mentality you're up against.. "It's always been that way" carries a LOT of weight, whether it makes any sense or not..
  20. It's silly to say the rut is over....It is a dynamic event, starting about the beginning of October and ending perhaps in early January in New York. Of course there are peak periods when the most estrous does are available, usually in early to mid November, but some does come in earlier, some later, and some do not get bred in their first heat and come back in about a month later. Whenever a doe comes into heat, there are always bucks willing to accommodate her. Kinda reminds of MYSELF when I was younger...<<smile>>..

    Herring

I have had canned pickled herring and also smoked herring and liked them both.. Never had them fresh, however... I fished with a friend near Juneau Alaska and we caught a bunch of herring on sabiki rigs, but we used them for bait for halibut and salmon...
