I just Googled it and answered my own question...Ithaca.
-
Who manufactured Western Arms ? That was a Montgomery Ward store brand, IIRC.. Probably either Ithaca/Lefever or Savage, I am thinking..
-
I have a story to tell relating to customer service. A good friend of mine owned an Ithaca SKB M100 20 gauge just like mine. One day when his son was a toddler, the boy knocked his Dad's shotgun off a table, and the buttstock broke when it hit the floor. He contacted Ithaca Gun to get a replacement stock, and they told him to bring or ship the gun to the factory. Since it's only about an hour drive, my buddy drove to the factory. When he arrived, the factory fitted the gun with a brand new ENGLISH (280 type) stock and a new forend to match, for no charge.

A big factor in NY, Al, was the fact that shotguns were required for deer in many areas and most doubles do not perform well with slugs. In the 40s, 50s and 60s many guys only owned one shotgun and a repeater was a better choice for deer hunting. I have always loved side by sides. My main upland bird/small game gun is also An Ithaca/SKB, a 20 gauge M100 that I bought used but like new in the mid 70s for $200. It's shot 1000s of rounds and it still functions perfectly and points where I look.
-
Yeah, Philo, I used to stop by his farmhouse and visit and DROOL over his guns. He had a 16 gauge Parker that I'd give my right nut for...<<sigh>>... He does have a son and daughters, whom I assume inherited the guns, and no doubt are aware of their value.
-
An old friend of mine who recently passed away had a wonderful collection of American made side by sides. He started buying them in the 50s and early 60s, when everyone wanted repeaters and the doubles had not become "collectible" yet. He had Parkers, AH Fox, Lefevers, Ithacas, Remingtons, Bakers , LC Smiths, and others, most of which he bought dirt cheap. I assume his son and daughters have them now.

Moose, Caribou & Grizzly hunt part 2
Pygmy replied to Gilliland440's topic in Out of New York Hunting
Nice video. I've been on 9 caribou hunts and one thing I learned is that it can be feast or famine..Ya gotta shoot 'em when they're THERE...<grin>... I was licking my lips watching all of those bulls walk past your tent. I love caribou. Better than moose in my opinion. Thanks for sharing. It brings back fond memories. Looking forward to the next installment. -
Barbequed baby back pork ribs, baked sweet tater and The Mermaid's cranberry relish, leftover from Christmas. And beer .
-
Yeah Larry, that sounds about right...2006 was when The Mermaid and I hooked up, and that was about the same time rifles were legalized here. You're right, it doesn't seem like ten years ago.
-
I am a huge fan of the Barnes X type bullets and currently use them in the 3 rifles that I hunt with the most. I'll definitely try them in the Springfield when I can get my hands on some. Meanwhile, the Sierras should show me if the rifle likes 150 grain bullets with the powders I have on hand.
-
Well, the only 150 grain .30 cal spitzers I could find are Sierra Pro-Hunters, not that there is anything wrong with them. I have some loaded up with 2 different powders, and I'm looking for a decent day to go to the range and finally shoot my new/old rifle.
-
If your 7 x57 likes lighter bullets, just smile and go with the flow. A 7x57 with a good 140 grain bullet at around 2800 FPS MV will nicely handle any non-dangerous game on this continent, including moose and elk, given good shot placement.
-
Actually, the only individuals that I know who ever ate mergansers are my hunting buddy's beagles. He cooks them up and feeds them to his beagles, and they seem to like them quite well.
-
It's a family trait...Growie does the same thing to trespassers when she catches them on her land...<<wink>>...

Happy Birthday, you grizzled old Mountain Man !!

Pretty FOXY, my friend ! Nice work.

I'm running out of LIKES... I just want to say that I enjoyed EVERY post on this thread...My daughter is 37 and she and my 3 year old grandson live nearly 6 hours away and this Christmas is her year to spend with her hubbie's family... Thanks for sharing and letting me enjoy all of YOUR Christmas mornings...

I cannot comment on the CZ shotguns, but I own a CZ rifle and have shot and handled a couple of others, and they are very well made and accurate. I wouldn't be afraid to buy a CZ shotgun, as long as I liked its handling qualities. Another option is to check out the gunshops and online auctions for a good used gun. Last I knew SKB doubles could be had for less than $1000..My main small game gun since about 1975 has been an Ithaca SKB M100 side by side in 20 gauge. I have shot hundreds of rounds through it and have killed everything from woodcock to foxes and turkey gobblers and it has never missed a lick.

Nope.....he was from Corning..

Remington 783 Problems (miss loading from clip)
Pygmy replied to nobody's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I think the term that the lovely and intelligent Ms Pelosi used was " bullet clip"...Even MORE IGNORANT than "Magazine clip", since a stripper clip can be used to charge a magazine, but there is no such thing as a clip that holds only bullets.. -
Yeah, Dan, it would be VERY tricky to shoot out of...I can't imagine swinging on ducks without freedom to swing at least 180 degrees in front of the blind, plus overhead..
-
Hehehehe......Ol' VJP will be shocked if you agree with him about ANYTHING... Kinda like Dianne Fienstien agreeing with Rush Limbaugh...
-
Good for you.... Many of us are not so perfect. I have killed many game birds and animals with the second or third shot, and a couple with the fourth. That is one reason why they make repeating firearms.. In the case of shooting at a coyote being pursued by hounds, ANY torso hit is as good as a killing shot, because if it doesn't anchor the critter, it will certainly slow him down enough so the hounds can finish the job..

I attempted to buy some bullets 3 or 4 months ago and was unable to. I'll try again and see what happens. Perhaps it has changed since then. Thanks !
