I didn't look at the BP, but the deer were certainly out feeding today well before dark....

Sorry to hear of your problems with your dream gun, my friend... Such a thing should be a JOYOUS event, not an occasion for frustration...
-
What bullet are you using this season

hehehehehe...This is sort of a one man conversation, but I am excited my new acquisition.. Been checking around the gun forums on the net looking at sporterized Springfields, and from what I saw there I got a SMOKIN' deal on this rifle...I could easily sell it for twice what I have in it , not that intend to...Gotta PLAY with it awhile ! I never have had a .30 caliber hunting rifle, just my Garand... Can't wait to start the process of working up loads, etc.

Not illegal, just a subsistence kill... I know an old guy who shot a couple of spotted owls and ate them... A game warden asked him what they tasted like.. He said " Kinda like a cross between bald eagle and whooping crane "...
-
Grampy...Trouble with those honeydo lists, is that as soon as you complete one, another one magically takes his place.. The Mermaid can think of things for me to do MUCH faster than I can do them...<<sigh>>....

Geeze, Skillet, that's not a grouse, it's an Aggravated Owl... The Aggravated Owl is so name because his vocal chords are where his sex organs are supposed to be, and his sex organs are where his vocal chords are supposed to be... Due to that condition, he can't **** worth a hoot, or HOOT worth a ****....

I shot 4 rifles earlier this week and all are shooting good..Of course I can only shoot one at a time.. I put up a new ladderstand on the property and I plan to spend the day in it Saturday..It is close to an existing stand, but does a better job of covering an area where the deer have managed to sneak past me the last couple of years.. Started the Ford 9N to be sure it will be running well for deer retrieval duty...
-
I'd keep it cut with the brush hog...Deer will eat a lot of the natural stuff that comes up.. It will be in better shape to plant if and when you might decide to till, fertilize and plant .

Outstanding, Uncle Nicky !! Congrats to you and the pup... What a wonderful way to hunt fall birds...A combination of dog work and calling...
-
Oh come on.... That's no bear, that's just BUBBA on his way down to the buffet at The Hungry Heifer !!
-
No Grampy, I'm technologically inept....It IS an attractive 03 sporter, though...Good condition, used but not abused..Can't wait to shoot her...
-
Well, I lucked out..Every now and then even a blind hog finds an acorn... The rifle was indeed a sporterized military job...However, it is an 03-A3 Remington Springfield action in a nice walnut Bishop stock...Not sure about the barrel MFG, but the bore is shiny and free of pits...The vintage Weaver V9 scope seems fine optically... The rifle is worth more than I paid for it as a shooter...I'm looking forward to shooting it, although it may not get done in time for THIS deer season...Working up a nice load for it will be a good project for next year..
-
A friend of mine who longer hunts picked up a bolt action 30-06 with an older Weaver V9 scope...He told me he'd let it go for $250... He doesn't know what brand it is...It might be some cobbled up, Bubba'd monstrosity Frankengun made from a military relic.. Then again, it COULD be a diamond in the rough, like the FN Mausers that Sears and other chain stores marketed back in the 50s and 60s.. I'm going to check it out this afternoon...I need another rifle like I need a hole in the head, but if it is something decent, well, I never COULD resist a bargain..Even a military conversion might be worth that much if it's nicely done and in reasonable condition..

I'd love to keep chatting, Biz, but I gotta go slop the hawgs and milk the chickens...HYUK,HYUK...
-
What do you mean, Shawn ?? If you only have 1 or 2 teeth, ya gotta take CARE of them/it.....

Job well done !! I'm always amazed at how many hunters think binoculars are just for looking at stuff at long range.. A good set is an extremely useful hunting tool, even in close cover..I don't go in the woods without my Leicas.. I was out last night myself, helping a friend track a buck that he had hit shortly before dark..Fortunately he made a good hit and it was a pretty routine tracking job. The only blood trails I like are wide, short, and have a dead deer at the end of them..
-
I do that all the time.....Hasn't worked YET !
-
Heck yes, Biz..!!.. Virgil Whipsnead is our local artificial inseminator and he doubles as our local gynecologist... One minute he's standing on a stool with his arm shoulder deep up a cow's a** and the next minute he's got Ol' Mabel Perkins up in the stirrups..
-
Yeah, and besides THAT, gynecologists stand a high risk of developing tunnel vision...
-
I'll be in a treestand located at a pinch point between two larger areas of woods and cover.. The stand is located on the break of hill so that I can watch the flat on top in one direction and the slope to the east..The woods are mainly second growth oak, but there are two strips of beech sapling cover that intersect near the stand, and the deer like to sneak through them when the pressure is on.. I LOVE hearing those gunshots !
-
I thought perhaps you worked as a sock tucker in a hosiery mill, or maybe as a cork socker in a barrel bunging factory... As for me, at one time I wanted to be a gynecologist, until one day I realized that for every woman that looks like Miranda Lambert there are dozens who look like Rosie O'Donnel....
-
You hold up well under fire, Pilgrim... Ranger training..??...

It's BOO BOO..!!..Good work, Larry....Yogi will be along soon..Right now he's busy with a PIC-A-NIC basket....
