Somewhere out there,a big old gobbler is wrapping his gnarly feet around a limb for the last time...
-
LMAO !!! Who's the good looking skinny dude in the middle ?

I'd offer to shoot one for each of us, Larry, but as I have said before,I never do anything illegal... Wellll...There WAS that smokin' Puerto Rican chick, but that wasn't really illegal..At least not in ALL states..

" The girl at Cabela's was very supportive".. She was also probably VERY hot... I think THAT is why you tried on so many pairs of boots..

I love that song...LMAO when I first heard it.. "I hit him hard right between the eyes, and he went down, but to my surprise, he come up with a knife and cut off a piece a my ear.."

I think being tough runs in his family.. His Dad flew 30 missions as a tailgunner on a Lancaster bomber during WWII.. There is a Canadian Legion post a few miles from Gator's home, and every year when I go up to hunt I make it a point to stop in a couple of times and visit with some of the old Canadian vets... I'll give you a tip if you ever visit a Canadian Legion post.. Remove your hat when you enter.. If you don't, you are required to buy a round of drinks for the entire bar..

I like Mucks, but then I have short, stumpy legs and odd sized feet. Back in the days when I used to literally climb mountains day after day, I went through several pairs of good leather and cordura hunting boots. Mucks don't fit as well as they do and I don't believe I would have had as high an opinion of them back then. However, now that I usually only shuffle a mile or two in an average day's hunt, they work just fine for me. Wade's Farm and Home Agway in Addison always seems to have them in stock, and at a lower price than the big box stores.

I have in my possession a significant amount ( 28 pounds) of clover seed from last year. I understand that it can be re-inoculated for planting this year. Is anybody familiar with the process ? Is it worth doing or am I better off just planting it extra heavy to compensate for the lower germination rate ? I also have about fourteen pounds of this year's seed that I could mix with it.

You got it right, Mountain... He IS a tough and crusty old Canuck ( not to mention UGLY)... There are a few guys walking around Prince Edward County, Ontario, with bent noses to prove it , EH...

Some people wonder how a Canadian would get a nickname like Gator... Well, his given name is GAYLORD, so I don't think he minds the nickname..<<grin>>.... It even says GATOR on his license plate.

This is the first time since I have been hunting gobblers in Ontario (Canada) that I have missed hunting opening day. Normally it opens April 25th and I go up for the opener, hunt until April 30th, and then drive home to catch the NY opener May 1. This year it didn't open until April 27th, so rather than drive up to only hunt 4 days, I decided to wait and go up for a week sometime in May. Still...It's a bummer... I'll be busy this week scouting out some birds for my Canuck buddy Gator when he comes down here for our opener.. Hopefully, the Great Warty-Headed Turkey God will smile again on us old turkey hunters this spring...<<smile>>....

I've killed lots of gobblers late in the morning. They don't gobble as much on their own, but if you can get a tom to respond late morning to midday, you have a better chance to kill him than if you hear him at dawn. Last spring I killed one of the best all around gobblers I have ever killed. 22 1/4 pounds, 10 " + beard and 1 1/4" spurs..He bit the dust at 11:15 AM..

One of my buddies a couple streets away lost his feeders to a bear around April 1, so I quit feeding then.

Good job, Joe !! Congrats to you and your young friend...fine bird !!

"Cowboys like smokey old pool rooms and clear mountain Mornings... Little warm puppies and children and girls of the night.."...

Wish they had herded 'em down my way.. I LOVE buffler' hump....!!
-
My buddy Gator from Ontario will be here the day before season. I will be checking two 100 acre properties every morning next week to find out where they are gobbling...Probably set up a popup blind or two... We'll be hunting here 3 days and then drive up to Maine to hunt 3-4 days...I'll go up to Ontario for a week or so around mid-May to hunt up there.

I set out an antler trap once, but all I caught was some dude wearing shorts, drinking Genny and puffing on one of those electronic cigarette thingies....
-
Good luck ! Be sure to dress warm...

That's right, Growie, and Walmart is even WORSE !! Where DO those incredibly obese women find those horrid polyester stretch pants ?

I just looked it up in the CO reg booklet. It says that if you were born on or after Jan. 1, 1949, you have to have a hunter safety card, and you must carry it while you are hunting UNLESS it has been previously verified, in which case there will be a V on the bottom of your hunting license. I just checked my 2014 deer license, and it says HE CARD REQUIRED. The book says in order to get your HE card verified you need to take it a Colorado CPW office.
-
I still throw them away...

According to Colorado regs, you DO need a hunter safety certificate, and you DO need to carry it with you while you are hunting. I don't know if they ENFORCE it or not, since Colorado is one of the few states/provinces I have hunted and have NOT been checked by a game cop, but I know that is the reg. Colorado also requires that you have a certificate SPECIFIC to bowhunting, if you buy a bow tag.
