So Get Off Your Ass!
Pygmy replied to DirtTime's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
rob-bob.... The "derelict" post was just one of my feeble attempts at humor.. And as long as we're correcting each other, the proper term is "WOE is me"... I believe that "WOO is me" is a quote from Daffy Duck... -
Invite the kid over a couple of times.. Whenever he shows up, make sure you're field stripping your 1911 or sharpening a big knife and SMILING.... One of my daughter's ex-boyfriends is STILL convinced I want to shoot him, and she's been married for ten years...

Hatches that heavy make for tough fishing... How is the trout going to find your artificial with all of those NATURALS on the water....?? It WOULD be fun to see, though.... Back in the early 70s I was stationed aboard a destroyer home ported in NYC and drove back and forth through the catskills on Rt 17 along the Beaverkill, Willowemoc and Delaware on weekend liberty..The mayfly hatches were pretty awesome and sometimes required pulling over to clean the bugs off the windshield of my 1965 Volkswagon....

Ok....Perhaps a .22 short would be overkill...How about a .22 CB cap ? Not much danger of overpenetration with that.
-
I would have planted a .22 short between his eyes before I removed him... They are easier to handle that way...<<GRIN>>....

Newly acquired disc and plow
Pygmy replied to NYBuckHunter27's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
You did well..I picked up a set of discs 3 years ago and I paid TWICE what you paid..I still think it was a good deal ..very useful tool.. I was fortunate to get a set of 2 bottom plows free myself..They came with the farm that my Dad bought in 1956..As far as I know they have had no replacement parts and they still work fine. -
They make little blue pills for that.... Oh...Wait a minute....I thought you said LIMBERsexual.... Kinda like the early days of the internet..I used to have a hard drive, and now all I have is a four inch floppy....

I may have to give Pabst another chance....I enjoyed it back in the 60s...A local tavern had PBR on tap at 20 cents a glass and it was very good.. I also drank plenty in cans and bottles and as I recall, it tasted fine... For whatever reason, I hadn't drank a PBR in years and a few years back someone gave me one..It tasted AWFUL ! Perhaps I got a skunky one or something, but I have avoided it ever since.. In the last few years, I have noticed lots of people drinking Pabst..Not hipsters ( whatever the hell THEY are) but old farts like myself. It is probably the single most popular brew at my local Legion post... Perhaps when I stop by for a cold one this weekend, I'll surprise hell out of the barmaid and order a PBR instead of a Genny Lite...

Uncle Nicky....Gotta LOVE that " Down East" dialect..... I grew up in the Southern Tier along the PA border... On my first trip to Maine I learned that the words "deer" and "bear" each have two syllables. They are pronounced " DEE-yah" and BAY-yah"....

Congrats on your draw !! I have hunted mulies twice in Colorado, and taken two nice bucks, but I never have hunted the eastern part of the state..However, they kill some monster mule deer bucks there in the grasslands and river bottoms...GOOD LUCK !!...

I have eaten a number of woodchucks over the years...The half grown young from this year are the best..Mild, tender and quite similar to squirrel or rabbit... The older ones are tougher and stronger flavored..Edible, but not as good IMHO as the young ones. The same generally applies to coon....With either critter remove as much fat as possible from the critter before cooking..The fat tends to give the meat stronger, less desirable flavor.

I have owned and shot many Remingtons over the years and I have always considered them a quality firearm, but the newest one I own, a M700 Mountain Rifle, was purchased about 1990. I have heard that Remington has had some QC issues in recent years, but I have no personal experiences with relatively recent guns. NRA magazine " American Rifleman" published an article a few months ago about current, relatively low priced "entry level" rifles. They reviewed offerings from Ruger and Savage and one other ( perhaps a TC or a Marlin) and gave pretty good reviews for the rifles as far as being reliable, reasonably accurate hunting rifles for the money..I can't remember if the Remington 783 was reviewed or not..

Hmmmm....We've heard from the far right and the far left on a subject that really shouldn't involve politics.. YAWN...I think it's time for my nap....

A buddy of mine is planning a high country Colorado mule deer hunt this year and wants me to work up a good long range load for his .280 Rem.. He has done some research and has become very interested in the Hornady 162 grain .284 A Max.. With it's high BC (.625) it supposedly shoots flatter than most 140 grain bullets, even though the MV is lower. I told him that if I can find a box, I'd try to work up a load for his rifle with that bullet. His rifle has performed well with a couple different 160 bullets ( Nosler partitions and Sierra Game Kings), so I have high hopes that it will group well with the Hornadys also. Has anyone had experience loading this bullet in the .280 ?

Happy Birthday Culvercreek hunt club The BIG 50!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pygmy replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
FIFTY ??? Holy Crap...If I was THAT old, I'd shoot myself... -
Great shots, as always, My Friend... The fawn is obviously advanced beyond the "lie still and not move" stage, judging from it's alert eyes and erect ears. Nice kingfisher picture..Back in my misspent youth, kingfishers were on the list of unprotected birds...I was on the riverbank and one came streaking broadside up the river. I was in my young " If it flies it dies" stage... I led the bird with my 12 gauge and watched the shot charge hit the water harmlessly behind the speeding bird.. Since then I have been glad I missed...I enjoy watching them today...

Awesome story and pictures, Dinsdale .. That is some RUGGED country !! Beautiful critter..Did you try eating any of it ? At that age he probably wasn't PRIME vittles...<<grin>>...

I had been wondering what was wrong with this forum, but due to my close minded arrogance I had trouble putting it into words.. Thanks for clearing that up for me... I feel much better now... No kidding....Really.... I'm a much better person for it...Honest... You are my hero...I really mean that...Thanks again...

Milk snake....They are not venomous, but they ARE very defensive and will strike like crazy if threatened.. Locally, they are called spotted adders...Bum rap, since REAL adders are generally very venomous, and the name makes them sound dangerous , which they are not...
-
Good luck, Dom...I'm VERY fond of bullheads...Haven't had any this year..Only enough last year for a couple of meals.. Some years I hit it right on Seneca Lake & tribs..Some years I don't...

Yeah Larry..One acquaintance who works for Corning Inc. and lives in Cohocton went up last week and got into the slab 'gills on Honeoye.. He is a master at panfish/walleyes and knows the lake like the back of his hand..
