  1. " Size does not matter "..?.. All the guys with "little ones" say that... Shucks, I've said it about a thousand times...<< sigh>>....
  2. Never met a CZ rifle that I didn't like...Very accurate and well made rifles for the money... Welcome aboard, Poppy, from one old fart to another...<<grin>>...
  3. They are a HOOT !! I suspect we all have been distracted/annoyed by squirrels while deer hunting.
  4. I have nothing against the Greeks.. Shucks, a Cheif Boatswain's Mate on board my ship said that when he retired he was going to sign aboard a Greek Vaseline Freighter where all of the hatchways were 3 feet off the deck...
  5. It wouldn't make a bit of difference to me... I do enjoy deer hunting, to a point, and I like venison, and yes, I enjoy killing animals with my centerfire rifles, especially with my own handloads. It's probably been over ten years since I specifically hunted bucks here in NY or PA.. Western trips are a bit different, especially when seeing 15 or 20 bucks per day. If I lived in an area where I could get GOOD waterfowl or upland bird shooting on a daily basis, I could give up deer hunting and never miss it.
  6. Joe...Forgive my poor manners.. Welcome to our forum !
  7. The 30-06 isn't QUITE as All American as you may think..It and many other rounds sharing the same case head are based on the basic 8x57 , developed by Mauser in Germany, the cartridge that served Germany and many other countries through two world wars. The 1903 Springfield, the first US military rifle chambered in 30-06, is just a slightly modified Mauser. It is so similar that Springfield had to pay patent royalties to Mauser for years to legally produce it. Absolutely nothing against the 30-06, though, it is a wonderfully versatile cartridge, even if IS called the 7.62x63MM in some parts of Europe..<<grin>>....
  8. Hehehehehe.. Don't forget that Jack O'Conner also had high praise for the 7 x 57.. Our first introduction to that round was when when the Spanish used it to shoot neat little holes in quite a few of us Gringos down in Cuba back in 1898...
  9. Not so crazy if you want a sheep and can afford the 40K...Evidently some folks can. I'm too old to hunt sheep and couldn't afford to hunt one for 4K... Too bad... It would certainly be a cool hunt..
  10. Why ain't you SPECIAL..??.. Perhaps not everybody is LOOKING for a challenge.. Perhaps many of us just want to enjoy the sport and the outdoors and a chance to put a deer or two in the freezer.. You want a CHALLENGE.... Okay, that's your perogative... Just keep in mind that MANY of the folks that buy hunting licenses just want the opportunity to enjoy hunting with a reasonable chance of taking home some game..
  11. Sounds like a good time, Rooter.. Many of my friends have done Canadian bear hunts , and had a ball.. The only reason I have never done one is because I never needed a bear pelt, and I have not been too impressed with the bear meat that I have eaten....I do have friends (like CULVER) who love it. The combo of bear hunting and Canadian spring fishing sounds like a winner..! Good luck... BTW..That Canadian beer is pretty good stuff too....<<grin>>...
  12. However, keep in mind that a 5 round mag is required to hunt big game in NY.. NY requires that a semi auto has a max capacity of no more than 6 rounds.. This reg FAR predates the UNsafe law BS.... That's why I buy special 5 round enbloc clips for my M1..
  13. You got it, Dan !! In this weather I'd rather snuggle up to The Mermaid by the stove and float an ice cube in some amber colored liquid...LOL..
  14. I love my Remington gas guns, but I would be lying if I said I hadn't replaced a few o rings over the years. My 11-87 SP was especially rough on them until I put a few hundred rounds through it..Once it got broke in it's been fine.. I do check the o rings very frequently. I consider it part of the routine maintenance, along with keeping the ports, pistons and mag tube clean.
  15. It's been too #*&%ing cold for me to go to the range... Perhaps next week if the temp moderates a little.
  16. I'm fat, lazy and old...Are you suggesting that I would not look good with a FISH on my head ? No offense taken...I wouldn't look good with Kim Kardashian on my head, but I'll bet I would FEEL pretty good.. This has been probably the MOST fun thread ever... " DON'T tell my heart....My Achey Breaky heart "......
  17. Amazing....All this commotion about killing a damn deer or two or three... I guess it's a good thing I'm getting old enough so I won't have to put up with such nonsense for much longer.. I'd like to quote NYANTLER... Shut up and HUNT..!!
  18. Or WABBITS !.....Wabbits are VEWY CWAFTY....hehehehehehe....
  19. I'll trade you even up, Wooly.. I have an 8x10 glossy of Rosie O'Donnel in the nude eating a big bowl of marshmallow cream corn willie fritters. It works great for scaring rabid dogs out of your yard...
  20. Good luck with your workout program, Growie ..!!.. In a couple of months you'll look just like Marie Osmond..!!..
  21. A Rem Model 7 S/S with a 20" bbl. in 7mm08. He loves the little rifle and it has been his main whitetail gun for several years now.
