  1. Looks like he's going with the 3x9x33 Leupy... No big surprise there.. Thanks for the input, guys...
  2. Hehehehe...jeeze, Eddie, you sound like Winchester 1200 type of guy.. That's got to be the ugliest pump gun ever made !!. Heck, I've shot Remington autos all my life, and the only failures I ever had was when I melted down a couple of barrels.. That pansy ass Russian dude was shooting skeet loads..I can shoot that fast with 3 inch mags ... My hunting buddies don't call me " BELT FED" for nothing....LOL...
  3. Geeze, Biz, that looks just like the chicken I had for supper tonite, except mine had 4 legs and a prehensible tail.... Granny Clampett lives just down the road and she picks 'em up with a spatula every night...
  4. I've been reloading for 40 years and it's STILL a mystery to me, and I still have 3 fingers remaining on my right hand counting my THUMB, of course..
  5. Shucks...!!...I can shoot darn near that fast with my 11-87 plugged for 3 shots, as long as I have a BIG pocket on the right side of my hunting coat to keep scooping handfulls of shells up into the loading port....<< grin>>...
  6. SMARTASS !!!.... I'd give him TWO fixed 4x for it... A Tasco and a Bushnell Banner...<<hehehe>>....
  7. Growie....Probably fell out of Wooly's RACKSACK when he was sneaking around your property in his shorts..<<grin>>....
  8. Welcome aboard, Swede !! There are some PERSONALITIES here, for sure, but lots of good info and good folks.. It's a great site to have some fun and a few laughs now and then, as long as one maintains a sense of humor and doesn't take things TOO seriously..hehehehe...
  9. I offer my sincere condolences to the family... Regardless of whether I agree with thier politics.
  10. I'd avoid Fury if you don't want excessive violence.. Great flick for us war film buffs, but intensely and graphically violent..
  11. One of my hunting buddies hunts whitetails with a Rem M 7 S/S in 7mm08. He loves the little rifle and currently has a 2x7 Leupy VX-II on it... He wants a little more magnification to help him deal with PA antler restrictions, but he doesn't want to ruin the nice handling qualities of his rifle by saddling it with a full size 3x9x40MM variable... Any suggestions for a quality compact 3x9 ? He doesn't want junk and he's willing to pay for quality.
  12. This brings back memories... Back in the 1960s the owner of the local pool hall/cigar store/ gunshop owned an electronic caller.. It was a Johnny Stewart 45 RPM record player. He would rent it out for $5 per day... I shot a lot of crows over it and killed some foxes with it. It was STATE OF THE ART at that time... In the early 1970s a buddy of mine bought a caller just like it.. We killed hundreds of crows and dozens of foxes with it. I suspect he still has it..He never sells anything..It is probably an antique now, along with the 45 rpm records that go with it..
  13. Nice, Jerry... I'm envious... My buddy has one just over the hill from you in the town of Rathbone. He has propane heat, electricity, carpeting, insulation and satellite TV... Room for a 4 man card game and 400 yard visibility over several food plots..
  14. If it comes to rapping the scope with a mallet, I think I'll let the OWNER do that...<<smile>>.. With my luck the crosshairs would fall out of it.. That reminds of a story that happened QUITE a few years ago. A friend of mine and one of his co-workers were discussing thier woodchuck rifles.. Another co-worker, named Louie, entered the conversation and told about his woodchuck rifle, with which he claimed to kill the varmints at extreme ranges. He offered to go out to the parking lot at lunchtime and show the other fellows his rifle. They went to the parking lot and Louie took his rifle out of his vehicle.. It was a lever action 30-30 with a cheap scope..One of the guys looked through the scope and discovered that it had no crosshairs. He said.. " Louie...Your scope doesn't have any crosshairs...How do you HIT anything with it ? " Louie never missed a beat.. he said " It's a real BITCH until you get used to it "....
  15. Good suggestion. That is just what I'll do. I just did not want to change TOO many variables at the same time. I really DO want Lyle's Redfield to be OK also... That would be the happiest ending to the story.
  16. That's the next step, Dan... I considered putting my 4x Leupy on it, but I wanted to try his Redfield one more time.
  17. Okay, friends and Neighbors... I removed the scope and rings from the base.. Did the straightedge check...Nothing bent as far as I can see... I centered the rear ring, which has some windage adjustment... The Port side screw was about .020" longer than the starboard side screw, so I switched them. Ran the windage adjustment all the way to the left, and then ran it back halfway to the right. Someday this week when it warms up a tad, I'l lrun up to the range and see if I have accomplished anything. I will report my results..Thanks again to all of you for your input and suggestions.
  18. Hehehehe... In the area I am talking about, the definition of a virgin is " A person who has never had intimate relations outside his/her immediate family".... Tooth/Teeth are definitely optional.
  19. I could send him to a place not too far west of Addison where he could find 40 WOODCHUCKS, but he'd be hard pressed to find a virgin !
  20. Damn !! What those Europeans won't think of next !! Before we know it they'll have flush toilets or some such outlandish contraption !!<<grin>>
  21. I can appreciate the controlled round feed of the Mauser after something that happened to me just a little over a year ago in the PA deer woods. I was using my push feed M700 Mountain Rifle.. I shot at a doe and missed, for whatever reason...It was fairly thick and I may have got a deflection, or maybe I flinched...All I know was I did not hit the deer. She did not know where the shot came from and ran right toward me and stopped perhaps 20 yards away, broadside. Somehow, after years of shooting a bolt action, I managed to short shuck the bolt and jammed the action...It was frustrating watching the deer standing there right in front of me while I tried frantically to clear the action of my rifle. Of course, just as I got the action cleared and another round chambered, the deer took off. That was just a somewhat comical event which resulted in a doe whitetail escaping unharmed, but if it had involved a dangerous game animal trying to eat me or stomp me into the ground, it could have been another story altogether..
  22. Okay, Guys..... I can't stand it... I just have to find out... OFF comes the old Redfield.... I'll check everything for square and plumb... ON goes one of my old faithful 4X Leupolds.... I guess I gotta find out where the old bear **** in the buckwheat... Thanks for the input.. I hope the owner of the rifle appreciates my efforts...Maybe he'll give me TWO ziplocs full of sauerkraut...<<grin>>...
  23. Hot DANG, but they sound good, ADK... I quit doing deer ribs for the same reason that you did.. If I'm still alive next deer season, I'd like to try some ribs using your recipe.. I DO love ribs !
  24. Since his rifle and mine are identical , the first bullet I will try will be the 140 Nosler BT that has worked so well in my rifle... Excellent performance on game ( as long as you don't hotrod them at short range) and excellent long range form. If that doesn't work ( I expect it will) I will go from there... I worked up loads for my .280 and his .280 for our 1989 Alaska float trip. According to my notes, his rifle was a bit more accurate than mine and would tolerate a grain or two more powder before showing pressure signs.. Since we were hunting moose/caribou we were using Nosler 160 partitions for that hunt.
  25. Hehehehehe...Steve 863.. I DO have a 4x Leupold I could slap on it... I'm just not sure if I want to mess with it that much.. I have NO IDEA about the history of the rifle..I think the owner inherited it from some relative who has gone on to the Happy Hunting Grounds... The rifle has defintiely been USED and perhaps somewhat ABUSED judging from the amount of pitting on the metal plus the crack in the forend ( which I repaired).. Still, it is a good sound shooter with a good looking bore..It would make a good hunting rifle for someone.. Thanks to ALL of you for advice...Gives me lots of options. I just need to decide if I want to invest more time in it, since the owner will PROBABLY never hunt with it anyway.. Perhaps if he offered to sell it to me for a reasonable amount... So far all he has offered me for working on it is a bag of his homemade sauerkraut...LOL..
