I have never seen a box of non-lead shot loads that did not say ON THE BOX that they were steel or other non-lead shot. No markings otherwise I would assume they are lead.

Unfortunately, all my EXPERIENCE is in my PAST....<<sigh>>.... I can still do the CRAPPY part, though...Flatulence and spastic colon....LOL...
-
Take me, Wooly... I'm experienced but I can be very CRAPPY.. I like to shoot stuff, and I am sure you would enjoy dressing them and dragging them out for me.. I have also been told that I am kinda CUTE.....<<wink>>.....

Pro-Gun, Anti-NRA

How many of you have been mortally threatened and NEEDED a handgun, but did not have one because it was illegal... ?... I was in that situation in Brooklyn in 1971...Only incredible good luck in the form of a patrol car full of cops (4) saved me and my buddy from being sliced up .. Our only crime was the fact that we were caucasion. I vowed at that time that I would never again be without means of defense ( meaning a FIREARM) if I could help it... Put yourself in that situation.... It's why I will NEVER again go someplace where I cannot carry , especially NYC.... -
I am hoping to be alive and physically fit enough to hunt next year... No plans beyond that... I made it through this season, and even killed a few...<<BIG smile>>...

Let me borrow a quote from General George Patton. He was describing pearl grips on a handgun... " Only a pimp in a New Orleans whorehouse would use a thumbhole stock "... hehehehe..No offense, but I like thumbhole stocks ALMOST as much as I like TC Contenders/Encores... YEW- GLEE !!!....<<grin>>....

I'm thinking about getting one for my Garand. The previous owner did an amateur job of refinishing it, and it's got a few dings in it that look like burn marks.. It shoots fine, but the stock looks like crap A buddy of mine got a Boyd's stock for his M1 and it's a very nice walnut stock.
-
Yeah, Dan, a #s matched M1 would be a rare find, since most of them have been rebuilt several times.. I'm sure there are still "shooters" out there...Just a matter of sniffing them out. If I were in the market for one, I'd check local gunshops, pawn shops and online gun auctions.

I have one and I enjoy hunting with it, but mine's not for sale. I shot a doe with it a couple of years ago. I carried it most of the time this season, but the day I got a shot at a buck, (opening day) I was carrying one of my other rifles. There are lots of them out there, in gun shops, at gun shows, etc. Last I knew you could also buy one through the DCM program. Keep in mind that to be legal for big game in NY a semi auto can hold no more than 6 shots and the issue clips for the M1 hold 8. Aftermarket clips that hold 5 rounds are readily available, however. Don't shoot factory loads through it unless they are loaded specifically for the Garand. I learned this the hard way via a bent operating rod. I now load my own with a handload that duplicates the pressures that the rifle was designed for. Good luck.

Very simple...There is never anytime when I feel so FREE from life's everyday worries and woes than when I am hunting or fishing.. My mind is occupied with what I am doing, whether calling a turkey or finessing a smallmouth with a hair jig..

I was leaning against a tree this morning in north central PA, hoping a buck would walk by...I saw a bird flutter down to the snow near me and then fly back up to a nearby tree..It was an eastern bluebird..Then I saw another, and another...Soon I was in the middle of a whole flock of bluebirds.. 30 degrees F and 8 inches of snow on the ground and I was surrounded by what was certainly a migrating flock of bluebirds. This is latest I have ever seen them this far north. I have no idea what they were eating, but they were flying down to the snow covered forest floor and getting SOMETHING, and then flying back up in the trees..They stayed around me for about an hour..It gave me something to watch, because the deer weren't moving much. Saw a big momma doe and two fawns, but she was safe from me since I already filled my PA antlerless tags.

Looks GOOOOD ! Here in Little Apallachia, all a feller needs is a nice hot bowl of Sheperd's Pie and a nice hot EWE to snuggle up to...<<sigh>>...
-
Look how short the snout is...Says "yearling" to me..Most two year olds up this way have much bigger antlers, also. He looks chunky because he isn't very long.

Wonder how long before we see these used?

Hmmmm...Sounds like a good place for a NAPALM strike, Culver... -

What growie and I do with our private instruments is our OWN business.. As far as drones go, as a dedicated wingshooter, I can't help but wonder how one of those things would hold up against a load of #2 lead shot.... -
Helluva buck... I'd like to have her check out by bicuspids...
-
Geeze...Sitting in a treestand in pitch dark for an hour and a half.. That sounds like lots of fun...Like whacking myself in the groin with a hammer or giving myself an enema with a turkey baster full of tabasco sauce...
-
Nice job, Kevin ! We'll have to try lake trout jigging again this year..

Do coyote and crow contests tarnish hunters' image?
Pygmy replied to Curmudgeon's topic in General Hunting
I'm just glad I'm getting OLD....<<sigh>>.... Not gonna have to listen to this anti-hunter BS much longer. -
That's some funny stuff, Paula...Thanks for sharing...

My info may be obsolete, because this was a few years ago. At that time I read that Burris was the only scope that was 100% American made. Leupold was American made EXCEPT for thier glass, which they bought from whomever could meet thier specs. At the time I read that info, I had never heard of Vortex. They probably weren't being made yet. I also need to check out Vortex because of thier avid supporters on this forum, such as Culver, WNYbuck and Moog...

The light gathering ability of a Leupold fixed 4x is amazing...You can see clearly much earlier and later than legal shooting time..Better than my 8 x 42 Leicas. And that scope has a 32MM objective.
-
Yeah, Moog, I understand...Everything is a trade off. However I have shot a fair amount of game, from proghorns to moose from 250 to 400 yards with my 4X Leupys, and I have never had a problem with lack of magnification. That said, my current long range rig, a M70 in .280, wears a fixed 6X Leupy, which I bought used but like new for $150. I also own a couple of variables, a 1X 4 leupy and a 2x7 Burris.. I bought the Burris when I bought my M700 Mountain rifle..The store would provide free rings, bases, and bore sighting but only if you bought a BURRIS scope, and they did not HAVE Burris in fixed 4X. I must admit it has been a good little scope. I almost never set it about 4X while hunting with it, though, and if I am doing anything other than stand hunting I set it on 2X.

I have whine about this at least once per season..Ask Wnybuckhunter..LOL.. I've always been puzzled as to why a person would ruin the graceful lines and good handling qualities of a nice sporter by saddling it with some bulky, heavy, awkward monstrosity of a high power variable scope. Most of us would be better served by a high quality fixed power 4X like the Leupold M8. Outstanding optics and clarity, absolute simplicity and dependability, light weight, ample eye relief, and NO danger of getting caught by a close up shot opportunity when you have set your scope to 9x or 12x and forget to turn it back down. Ask Jack O'Connor...On second thought DON'T ask Jack..He's dead... I feel better now.. I won't bitch about high powered variables again until next year.. <<grin>>....
