  1. Think about this. Most deer that are hit are walking or or running across the road.If one is hit standing on the road licking whatever, it is the driver,s fault not the deers.Like to see what the DEC does about it.
  2. They are forcasting snow flurries in the last week of March. .
  3. X2 Exactly Right.I guess it was a waste of time posting pictures By myself and others And the Video that was posted also,All showing and stating the same thing. And I posted a picture how I made the Anchor Point the Same place that was also in the Video. I just hope the person that started this thread does not get Discourged by all of this BS that is going on. Young Fellow Just go to the Pro Shop as you intended and do as they recommend.
  4. We have had this happen by us a number of times to many of the Weekenders and Summer houses and trailers in the area. And this is a True story.Someone I know had a few chickens and had a bear take away the feed so they decided to put the feed in side of there car.The bear Did Not damage the car to get at the feed,It somehow found out that by pushing the button on the door it would open, which it did not just once but two different times. Until the DEC was called and took the bear away.
  5. And this is how I kept the same Anchor Point
  6. WNY BH beat me to the DRAW
  7. When I bought my first Compound bow from a Archery shop with a fellow with many years of shooting, setting up and selling all types of bows.Even though I have been shooting Long and Recurve bows for years Did This.He did ask what poundage bow I shot. Then got out a 40, a 50 and a 60 pound Long bow with a 36" long arrow which had the last 10" marked off in inches and half inches. He had me hold each one at full draw for around 1 minute. The 40 pound I held the longest and the 60 the shortest amount of time, the 50 pound I held at that time with out any shaking or other movement. And the arrow was marked at the front of the arrow rest.It wound up being 28". Then we tried another this time a Recurve which was 50 pounds at 28" took a few shots with that.Ok now I needed a Compound that was set a 50 pounds for a 28" Draw Length. He took a few different Brands and Models of Compounds with that setting,Watching me with each. I shot each and found the one I was most comfortable with.Got a new one out of stock and made all of the adjustments needed. Had me shoot it and tweeked it a little more. That bow has served me well for the last 20 years. Later on I decided it was time for a newer and shorter in length Compound. I found one at another good Archery shop, This One I had a loop Installed on And they made the adjustments to compensate for the loop and Found a comfortable short Release to use.Still shooting 50 pounds at 28". The actual arrow length is 29 - 1/2 " . My recurve and long bows that I added the loops to Still anchor in the same place,Just that my hand is now a 1/2" further back and has not effected my shooting at all.
  8. There is no written rule as to where your anchor point should be, as your nose ,lips or cheek. I am sure mine has changed as from my lip to my cheek , when I added the loops to all of my bows,if it changed to that spot and I keep anchoring at that spot, it does not change how I shoot. When you start out ( as **** is ) the anchor point is Not known.
  9. What's that fasteddie A Two In One Shot. .
  10. By me last year the population was down, But thanks to the trappers and hunters wiping out a good part of the Fox and Yote. population, the turkeys have made a comeback. Opening week of rifle season I had 36 turkeys cross the road and come on to my property and stayed on it for most of the rifle season.Pecking away at the ground.Must have been something they liked to keep them there that long. Very tempting to pull the trigger when you see a bunch of 8" and 10" beards around you.
  11. A Bow is like a Shoe it has to be the right fit for You.A good bow shop should do this for you before you BUY one.
  12. 75 yards only if I was using one of my rifles ( which are sighted in at 50,100 and 200 yards ) I would aim for the Heart/Lung area. In the last 60 years of hunting deer I have seen some that were shot in both the head or neck that have been put down by another hunter I would just let it walk if it were during archery season. When tracking wounded deer with a Lic. handler from DSI most of the deer that we recovered were from Bad Hits ( shooter claimed it was a clear 20 yard shot). Not saying there are not people capable of a 75 yard shot but not me. Practice,Practice,Go to the range a few times during the year with the rifle or pistol not just a week or 2 before the season opener. Take the bow out and shoot a few arrows before going to work or after supper.
  13. Now that you think you have it cleaned try this, let it soak overnight in a pie pan or such covered with Kero. or Mineral Spirts, the next morning work it back an forth and watch what comes out.Breakclean just dries too fast to break everything up.That is how it was desighned to flush debries away and dry quick so the brake parts can be re assembled. The only good point is that it is under pressure to blow stuff away. I would have soaked it with the above, then used it as a final flush then oil it. Other the that how do you like the rifle there are a lot of people out there that are pleased with them.
  14. As I said in another post, the old mom and pop store would break the firearm down clean and oil it and make sure everything is working properly before the gave it to you.I guess thoes days are gone with the big box stores that just sell.
  15. Why is it that the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence As, People down state, L.I. and the City want to go Up state N.Y. to hunt.People that live below the Northern zone want to go North to hunt and people in the Norther zone as well as other's want to go Out of state to hunt. According to some fellows I have talked to that have been to the I and T states, said that we have deer just as big , antler and body size as they do and it is more Shooting then hunting there.
  16. That is what I did,Not that large of a piece , just large enough to hunt on.Get up when I like, go out when I want, come back when I feel like. It took almost 10 years to get it the way I like it but it is paying off.
  17. 25 ea. New Lapua + 15 fired once resized and primed + 15 ea. Speer silver colored, resized and primed. Will trade for equal amount of .243 Winchester caliber.New or fired once, Lapua, Nosler, Winchester Brass. No Remington.
  18. As 88GW said soak it first in Kero. or Mineral Spirts,Overnight would be good.Strange the online manual does not say how to take the bolt apart.Do not use Brake Clean in an area that is not ventalated ,Bad for your health. Many auto mech. and weldors finding that out the hard way. And in the manual as in most it said to Lightly Oil the parts on assembly.Hoppys gun oil works good.
  19. Try keeping it in the crate more then out of it,they do not like to mess up there bed,Take it out when it looks like it has to go.That is what the do in kennels or boarding houses. And it works.
  20. I wonder if Clint E. knows how many of the 44 mags. were sold after his movie. I Had one and sold it,found it very uncomfortable trying to carry a rifle and that at the same time,Just carrying that might be OK. My little 6" BBL. .357 fits me just fine. If just taking one I take my Encore in 45 long colt with the choke for the .410,got quite a few red's and greys with that.
  21. It boils down to shot placement, My favorite 30 - 06 round for deer was the 165 grain NBT. Again just a hunters choice.
  22. I would agree that a Shotgun would be the firearm of choice because it's versatile and not limited to one caliber or what can be fired out of it for the game being hunted. Handgun or rifle calibers would be the choice of the hunter,I might like a Chevy.and you might like a Ford. NYSDEC states that they should be larger then .22 caliber ( centerfire ) and 410 shot gun.
  23. And ask the old timers from PA. how many Bear the dropped with the old 35 Remmy.
