  1. Yep I knew someone that took off 3 fingers on his right hand that way.
  2. With the advent of battery operated tools nothing is safe anymore. If they want it bad enough they will use a chainsaw.
  3. Any bolt action / or any action will work all it is doing is allowing the fireing pin to hit the primer ,not ejecting a paticular cartridge.I hope this fellow is capable of machining any thread to match any receiver / action. And the removable plug that holds the primer. He must have a deal going with someone who buys the Barrels.Any good Machinist or Gunsmith with the time, knowhow and proper lathe should be able to do it. Look into Sturm Ruger 77 actions they will work and are cheap,Built a few odd ball custom rounds using them.
  4. Call the shooters corner in NJ, Bob White, ( 973 ) 663 - 5159 / email [email protected] He might have one. www.benchrest.com/shooterscorner/ M30
  5. They come to downed trees all year round, last spring into the fall I was dropping trees every day and they would hit them as soon as I left.2 even came as soon as one tree hit the ground.
  6. That is why as I mentioned in an earlier post My father in law ( butcher by profession ) would touch up his knives every few cuts of meat with a steel. If you look at the sharpening websites, after sharpening with various grit stones 1000 to 10000 they recommend going over with a steel to remove the burr.I use a leather strop, and they are razor sharp.

    GRD

Did you add any pork to the GRD ?.
  8. A knife made out of a file is pretty good if made in the 50's to 70's after that all of the good US steel producers are no longer around. We made them out of old large power hacksaw blades that were 3/16" thick x 3' long, full hard tool steel not the hardened edge blades that the sell now. Or we would use A6 tool steel one of the best steels when hardened and tempered right for holding an edge.Made a few out of 440 SS. too for people that wanted them, But I am not a fan of SS for cutting. Just ordered a Wusthof 12" slicer for myself for Xmass,.
  9. Years ago when L.I. largest employer was still in business and had a working runway in eastern L.I. Potatoes were injected with a chemical and were put out by the sack full to control the deer population. But the Animal Rights people put a Stop to that. I do not know if it has changed ( have not hunted there in many years) but if you hunted out of the Ridge DEC station you could take as many Does that you wanted Until you shot a Buck.
  10. Have you thought about a semi auto or a pump in .308 ,I had an old Remy. 740 in 30 - 06 was not bad at all and a friend has a Remy. pump in .308 loves it. And both have a box type mag. which is nice. Scopes I have had everything from factory added lower quality to the most expensive threw the years Fixed and variable power. It all depends on your how much you can spend. For a .308 a 3 to 9 power would be a good choice.
  11. Most wooden dowels are made of hardwood, not soft wood as pine and spruce. In todays world a 1/2" wooden dowel is most likley smaller than .500 anyway. if it is not it could be filed or sanded to fit the bore a little loose. And the end could be drilled to fit your original metal tip.It is used to compact the powder and push the ball/patch, lead bullet or the plastic sleeve and jacked bullet against the powder. You should not have to use that much force to bend the rod.
  12. That is the way it was when I started to hunt deer + there was a party permit for a doe. Which was 3 people to a permit for 1 deer.We only took 1 buck per year anyway since then. When they had check stations on the way home,we always stopped at them, they aged the deer, made sure they were healthy and always had a good time chatting with the other hunters about there and our deer.
  13. Congrats, Glad you held out for a big one and it paid off.
  14. I put cat food in a live trap trying to trap a fox and caught on of the neighbors cats( No Bull).
  15. A few years ago when we had + or - 4' of snow, I was moving snow from my driveway with my front end loader tractor, I made it to about 30 feet from the road and A neiighbors daughter came and asked if I could make a path to her mothers house about 200 feet from the road.I said when I finish here and make it to the road I would be there, Which I did. I get back to do the back of my house and a hydrolic hose blows and oil all over. Now I cannot do the rest of my property until I get a new hose.
  16. Make sure you go to PT.
  17. The young deer that was out there last evening on the road eating salt is out there now doing it again.
  18. Gotta laugh at this one, about 30 minutes ago I walk to the front of the house , look out the window and a little doe born this year walks from the front lawn and stops on the road and is there for 5 minutes in the middle eating salt that dropped off of the town truck. It then goes on the other side of the road heading to the pines. Less then 5 minutes here the come driving very slow looking on both sides of the road and I laugh TOO LATE.
  19. Make a long story short about the old stoves, when we were first married and did a lot of camping on the way back we would always stop at the uncles farm, that or the next morning the aunt always made muffins. My wife would go to the country store and buy all of the same ingredints but never would taste the same, even brought home the spring water. It wound up being the old brick lined oven that the aunt had.
  20. I thought you were going to say you got a modern version of the old wood burning kitchen stoves.

    Snow???

We do not have that much here now, might be 6" the most. But we are going to get it all day tomorrow into Sunday. Plows on the tractor, chains on and the weight box on the back is full.Did my food shopping this morning. Ready.
  22. There are a lot of road hunters around and they really get PO when they are doing 5 mph looking into the wood and you are on there back bumper trying to get them to pull over and let you pass them, most of the time there are 2 in the vehicle one driving and one with a firearm ready to fire. They shot a deer near me last year like that ,the owner of the property called the police with the plate # and they got a bunch of fines from the ECON officer. These people just do not give a damm about laws. This year before archery season I was outside of a store talking to someone and the asked if I was ready for hunting season,my reply was I was getting ready. One of the fellows that had gotten fined as I said above was standing near by and said, You mean you don't have one hanging yet..
  23. No not untill he gets his Doctorit Degree.
