Keeping it off of the ground also keeps the wood dryer more air circulation. This past year I used wood pallets on top of field stone and covered wit tarps.Went threw 12 full cords last year. People by me are buying log lengths now, cutting, splitting and stacking for this coming winter..

Sewing machine motors are a little on the fast side even with the foot pedal controller.I made 2 spinners using sewing machine motors and foot pedals, the motors were hooked to a reduction gear box and a cone ( picture a shot glass on it's side) on the output shaft.Just put the but of the rod blank in it and some masking tape holds it in place.Made 2 sets of offset rollers out of 1/8" thick aluminum 3" dia.with O rings on the OD,Mounted to a piece of aluminum angle,.and a third set with an adjustable roller to put on top of the 2 bottom rollers to hold the rod blank down and in place,I could clamp the rollers on anything at any distance.Made everything from 3' long for 2 piece rods to 13-1/2' surf rods. Turns at a nice slow RPM and get nice even and tight (if you want) wraps. Will have to dig them out and take a snap shot.

Should be put in the Frig. for at least 2 days.If you were canning them you could just put them on a shelf.
-
That's only if you have eggs to go with it.

I have worn Blase Orange, Red and Black and Blase Orange Camo for 60 years and it does no seem to bother the Deer , Turkeys, Bear and small game one bit. I guess it does bother some Macho people though.

Your opinion on best $600-800 30.06 hunting rifle
thphm replied to mac's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
The new ruger is pretty good from the reports from people on here that have them.I have had just about every model of there rifles #1 threw Ranch rifle, every one of them shot good. Remington, had every version of the 700,but all were older rifles all were good. Winchester model 70 ,older ones ,still have one of them Savage never had one. Bro has a A Bolt in 06 and loves it. Tika had one in 06 and sold it in less then a year was not impressed with it.Store owner said save your pennies and buy a real Sako. should have listened to him. Syn. stocks most are noisey ,some are junk.Unless they are made by H&S, Mcmillan or Howe. Stainless Steel BBL.is heavier then reg. steel.and they do rust,if not taken care of. Check and see what weight bullet you intend on shooting and find a rifle with the twist rate BBL. for that bullet although most over the counter rifles have BBL's for the popular bullets. Scopes as said above you can spend more for one then the rifle.Had everything from B to Z brand and the best band for the buck is a bushnell 3000 or 4000 series. -
I have regular AA batteries ( brand name not store name ) since last November still working in 2 cams,2different makes, thousands of pictures out there 24/7.II have used the ones that you re charge and they do not last forever. You can find Duracell or Eveready on sale in the 8 and 10 packs threw out the year. The cards buy what is on sale, change them often or you will go nuts looking at 300 to 800 pictures at one time. I have pictures tat were taken in 0 and below temps. with the reg. AA batteries. The re charaged ones did not work at thoes temps. Could be that they were over a year old.

Lapping the rings is not just for holding power,it is also done to keep from distorting the OD. of the scope.Which in turn will throw off the optics.

Went into the kitchen to stare supper (I eat early)been eating the same time seems forever. Put the lab out and he is barking at something, which he normaly does not, look out the window and there is a 8 pointer brosing and looking up a him, no velvet antlers shining in the evening sunset.

WTB plastic removable top barrels
thphm replied to MACHINIST's topic in Non Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Bears have no problem moving 55 gal. drums of grain a friend found one of his 100 yds. from where it was. -
Fixed blade a + cut on contact other then that advertizing hype #1 70 pound bow, how many shoot a 50 to 70 lb. bow, # 2 shooting into plastic, it shatters at the back end, does a live animal shatter like that.Just my 2 cents.

I have made quite a few threw the years, mostly Surf Rods 10 to 13-1/2' long. Did a lot of Surf Fishing on L.I. I used Lamaglass blanks, The best guides you can afford,Thread made for wrapping.Flex coat.To cover wraps. You can use simple wooden V blocks to hold the rod on a bench,Just put something over the closest block to the wraps you are doing to keep the rod from pulling up.Gentile pressure is the key to a nice even wrap. Tape the guides on the blank including the tip with the reel in place with the line you are going to use,put the line thhrew the guides and tie the end of the line to a table leg or something that won't move pull up on the rod and adjust the guides so the line is not hitting the blank.Line them up so the line is in the center of the guide and start wrapping.Take your time. Have fun.You will enjoy the rod when it is finished.

Recommendations for a decent spotting scope
thphm replied to moog5050's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Most any spotting scope will work at 100 yards, even .17 caliber. More important is what it is sitting on, a flimsey tri pod will drive you nuts.Get something that holds it rock solid. -
Made many threw the years,Pain in the but to move around, The block type I have for 5+ years shooting almost every day weather permitting.and they are still useable. Do not shoot for groops,Runes arrows and the target, I shoot at the 4 circle or 6 circle spots on the target.Pull the arrows and shoot again.

.Congrats on the new hunting item. Anyone get one from Kodabow yet ?
-
Back Tags Back tags must be visibly displayed on the middle of your back while hunting, except in the Northern Zone and Catskill Park. From the NYSDEC website under hunting.
-
In the Catskill Park Area ( Southern Zone ) Not Required, DEP land ( Required + there Tag.)
-
As I said check the reports Wait for the 30 -50 pounders to show up. Unless you want plenty of action with the Blues.
-
There is Harriman State Park and another off of Taconnic parkway that are closer to Weschester County.
-
It looks like they are just showing up according to the reports, no big ones yet, hitting bunker as usual. I would check the Hudson river and N.J.reports and see if the big ones are still there.

Made my decision, 2014 Yamaha Viking
thphm replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
Nice,That was a good move getting one of them.Just one Question do they offer a rear mounted winch for them also ?. -
Doc,Around my house there have been no deer as in other years at this time or season. They are staying in the wooded areas for some reason. The fox, wood chucks and the rodents are in abundance. Talking to a fellow on the other side of the hill that has some good size food plots and he claims there are plenty by him every morning and evening.
-
Never took them down, here is the most recent. And I never changed the batteries, they are reg. AA in there since Nov. 2013.

Put the seed down about a week ago, rain and heat kicked it off.
