  1. http://picklestravel.com/pheasant-dumplings-soup-recipe/ Making this one - I'll let you all know Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. My buddy's grandmother used to leave everything on the bone and cook it like cacciatore but I have no idea how she did it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I am looking for your best pheasant recipes. Any stews? Pot pies? Crock pot? Most things I have found call for can of mushroom soup which I find so unappealing. I can dig through a gut pile looking for the heart but can't stomach the sight of cream of mushroom giggling out of a can! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Did uptown ever enter the woods this year? I do not recall seeing any posts in the "Live from the Woods" thread...must have been busy being "Live from under his bridge" enjoy the inauguration uptown- MOST Americans will! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Took my twin boys to my buddy's property today and picked up a few pheasant to let my Brittany have some fun(thanks cynthiafu for putting my "puppy" back in the forefront of my mind). I have not hunted him since last year and that was only for a day or two. He ripped a back toenail after the first 20 minutes but never missed a beat during the next two hours. He showed me a few flash points and then kicked both birds perfectly for me as my boys watched. He didn't retrieve them for me but he did make sure they weren't going anywhere after they hit the deck. Such a fun day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. It looks like a toddler holding that shed. Either that's one big shed or it must be a bitch to find gloves without Power Rangers on them that fit!! Great find! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I've only had one "hunting" dog and he is a Brittany. He was my first Father's Day present from my new born daughter 12 years ago and I (ME! Not you)would definitely get another one although the wife is done with dogs. There were times when she wanted him gone not because he was bad - she is not a "dog person." But she is convinced he saved my daughters life one day-daughter was choking in her playpen at about 14 months old when my wife was in the other room-dog went crazy- jumped in playpen and was nudging her to roll her over as my wife came running in. I trained him myself through the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) and read every book I could. All of his training happened in my backyard and neighboring Westchester county woods (no guns allowed). I HAD A BLAST working him into a serviceable (nowhere near finished) hunting partner and he produced often on state stocked pheasant, quail and we even hitting the woodcock right a few times. That was all prior to me taking up bow hunting and prior to the new bow hunting opener of October 1. When that happened, I neglected his hunting time. But still, I get him out a few times a year and he works really well(great nose, non-stop drive, flash point at best but he snorts like a pig when he is on game so that works for us!) The best part of Trico is how great of a family dog he is. He was a puppy still when my twins were born so he was trained to be very gentle as the patient of many childhood dr check ups and dentist appointments (my kids favorite game with him-cramming thermometers, fake shots, and whatever else they could find in any holes that needed to be checked). His bloodlines are strong from a Brittany breeder- name escapes me now but could find it if interested). My long-winded two cents. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Good points...like the tips and the warning. My problem is always with focus. Once I get too far from deer season, I rarely remember the crap I want to get done for next season due to other activities/hobbies/family. Free time is never free for me so when I get a free few hours, I try to take advantage - probably not worth the risk at this point Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Not for dinner but I made homemade liverwurst the other night. While the process was horrifying (hand grinding liver is not a clean process) the final result is enjoyable if you enjoy liverwurst. I used a liver from my partners button buck Since the recipe called for beef tongue, I substituted the heart. Here is the site I followed: http://homecookinginmontana.blogspot.com/2013/02/homemade-german-liverwurst-pateu-de-casa.html?m=1 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I mostly hunt from a climber but have one ladder stand that I am looking to move (only about 30 yards away from its current spot). My partner is not available so I may be attempting this alone. Any advice so I don't die after detaching ratchet straps? How many adjust their stands solo or do I just wait? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Thanks everyone for the advice... time to start shopping. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I am looking to pick up a plinker for my 12 year old son. We live be in a very residential area and he will be doing most of his practice at a very short range in my basement/backyard (plenty of backstop). I'm leaning toward a break barrel with a scope....anything out there worth getting around $150??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I like to believe in Bigfoot when on my couch watching those shows; not so much when walking in the pitch black woods at 5 in the morning! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Flew out of my conference at 2... jumped in my closest 3s stand...whole flock of Does were sleeping right there and boogied upon my arrival- all I can do is hope for the buck to come looking for his ladies and find me there instead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I would take 19 mph wind and rainy over my seat today. Teacher Detention(aka conference) in NYC. Longing to sit in any woods anywhere and not even see deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Nice FU(wink wink!)!! I had this guy just leave after arriving at 7:45 and bedding down. He knew I was there the whole time but also knew I am bow hunting and he was out of range - smarter than your average spike! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Awesome work through some cold sits boys and girls! Hoping to join the party tomorrow. My version of an all day sit...sun up until about 12:00. That's all day when twin boys have 3 basketball games (2 different teams) and my daughter is in her first NYC off Broadway musical. I'll report now since fingers will be shot by 7:30...back in 3S with the bow. COLD AND NO DEER SEEN except for the three I bumped on the walk in. Squirrel should be here soon and maybe the fox that frequents my tree. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I never understood the statement, " tastes like beef/veal" as a COMPLIMENT to venison. If I want beef or veal I would just buy beef or veal. I find venison has a slightly deeper flavor which I enjoy more than beef or veal which is also why I spend some much time, effort and money chasing them. That richer flavor gets labeled as "gaminess" which has a negative connotation IF people don't like the stronger flavor. The strange experience for me was that the toughest piece of venison I had was a tenderloin of a young die that we grilled over a wood fire in the field after field dressing. I was expecting a flawless piece but is was disappointing. As for non-hunters, my boys likes it as much as beef. My wife does not like steaks(even backstaps) but enjoys it in chili or burgers. 19. Insane article Grow...."the mother has yet to be charged" Are you kidding me???? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Well done...looks like you hit her with samurai sword! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Oh the joys of hunting in a management program...arrived in lot at 5:00. 1 car there already. 1st come, 1st served and he served himself "my spot!" My second choice still feels good but the grass is always greener.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Damn chef...Cooking up some good eats for those deer. All that remains is to add a fireball and salt tree. They should be coming in on strings! Much jealousy!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. From the management: our aim is to keep this place clean; your aim would help! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Was that from turkeyfeathers after his healthy option? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I hate when it's "perfect!" Never see any deer on those textbook days. Deer must be reading different books! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
