I'm no trapper but love this kind of stuff. What are we, the inexperienced trappers, looking at? What's the target species and how will it get caught?
-
Good topic. I wish I had something to add since my mid-day activity sounds like yours. I'll be stalking this one for some sage advice from the many full day hunters from the another recent thread

60 minutes before sunrise, most cars are empty and everyone is jockeying for spots. I have been to some parts of Putnam at least so hours prior to legal light, and I have not been first! Scout deep but even then you still will not be alone in some areas!

While I'm all for safety first and efficiency after that, do you really save that much time? Is the traditional strap that comes in most harnesses THAT bothersome? I think I have a bunch better places to burn $30 bucks or so,

Nothing in 3f this am (possibly deu to ridiculous winds) but very little sign of rubs or scrapes

Sorry SteveB, I can't disagree more with your opinion. Today's parents(probably including me!) feel THEIR KID is ready now and the best and can do it early and better then everyone else. This law is necessary to protect us from unrealistic parents.

No updates on the phone call huh? No pics? Bogus report confirmed! -
Just for fun...I think AR's should only be enforced for crossbow hunters during the youth season, 30 minutes before legal sunlight near a salt lick. Is this really 13 pages DURING THE F'ing SEASON.....Go shoot something!

I am an educator and spent my last 17 years working with kids from grade 2 - 12th grade (various years and subjects obviously). My number one explanation as to the change in children boils down to two words: PARTCIPATION RIBBONS! Every kid wins, no one is recognized as better than the other since it may make the lesser student/athlete/artist/whatever FEEL BAD! "Kids today"(yikes, I said that already at 38!) must feel good to be successful where the past would say the opposite. Be successful and you will feel good. There is very little motivation to work hard and achieve something, since EVERYONE ACHIEVES something regardless of the effort or product produced. Currently, I teach middle school aged kids in the burbs- can some of them handle bows and guns if the had the experience- maybe. But most cannt hanldle their own damn pencil case, let alone a firearm of any sort. I would not start improving our children by lowering the age of legal hunters(feel good before succeed) - lets make our children more responsible and then lower the age(be successful and then I feel good)

Matthews mission line is one to check/shoot as well

I Plan on taking my 8 year old son ths weekend to sit in a ground line while I bow hunt. He has come with me shed hunting, scouting and fishing. I, a city dweller by many of your standards, am quite nervous about his reaction if a deer presents itself. I think there is something veyr different from tracking a down deer and experiencing the whole shot, hit, reaction(potentially sad and harsh). My plan is to let him call the shots... I don't think is twin brother is as ready, so he will sit this one out until he sows more interest and curiosity.

My guess is Craigslist.

Practice wearing what you wear hunting - I missed
crappyice replied to nybuckboy's topic in Bow Hunting
I usually wear all my gear walking to the stand to stay warm, then strip down to my practice shorts and tee-shirt I use all summer. Hell of a lot easier than practicing in full gear during summer months! -
Awesome...congrats to him, and you!

I picked a handful off my pants today-no clingers though which is good. Some credit permethian since I had none on my hunting pants which was treated early in the season. These ticks were on pants tha were not treated. I unwisely decided to walk a new patch of woods after I changed from my hunting gear. Found some good rubs, no scrapes and a many ticks. I guess deer are in the area, just not where I'm sitting!

Just to heat people up since I am about to get on the road already(alaram goes off at 3:30 for me on hunting days)and all you bastards with a 1/2 total commute to treestand are still sleeping...AR's remove the genetically superior specimens from the herd and as a result reduce the chance of big buck later. This is not my opinion but one that I heard against AR's - thought I would share to tick people off! Have fun!

New Video: Mile High Mouser

Great video as usual. -
Half hour before civil twilight...I too enjoy the darkness of the morning. Why is it though that I get coldest when the sun stars to come up? Just when I feel those first rays, I always start to shiver and feel cold when I was feeling nice and warm in the dark?

Careful Elmo...we all know what happened to that guy!

I like the WB for all the same reasons that others mentioned. Just say, I have never shot with a DAR but my buddy does. Many times when practicing, he begins to pick up his bow to draw and realizes he forgot to "load" his rest...that alone is enough for me to stick with the simple WB
