  1. Nice when they dow hat they are supposed to. Great shot!
  2. A lot of deer live in areas of westchester that cannot be legally hunted even by bow...a lot of big racked deer come from those lands(not by me if course-still waiting for my first bow buck-legal would be nice!). Not saying that's what happened but I have seen some bruisers that are living high on the hog in protected areas and Yorktown is a quick drive away to give it the "legal" credit
  3. Sign has been limited for my areas as well so far this year. I can't imagine the pick your own interferes too much since it is probably what they live with all the time. Be patient - they're there!
  4. Bring along some small game tips and whack some squirrels with the bow...If you get the feeling of drawing on a live target and have success without the pressure f killing a deer it may just reinstall the confidence necessary to seal the deal. And if it doesn't happen, SO WHAT! It is only hunting (supposed to be pleasurable right?) like others have said.
  5. Give him a pass...wait til you see him next year!
  6. I'm in....this is after losing a bet(usually clean shaven except for a beard every deer hunting season-) I lost and my "friend" got to pick how I wore my beard remnants for 3 days. 70s porn star is not a good look for an educator!
  7. Good pics J...is that a scratch and sniff painting? Why so close?? JK
  8. I had a pisspoor morning-saw nothing but a doe kicked out by an atv prior to shooting light-I'm not a big fan of the morning hunt after bright moons.

    atv

This morrning I was in well before first light- as civil e twilight approached and atv ran up to the top of the hill where I was on the ridge. I never saw the atv but I did see the doe bust on out of there when the atv got close. Sucks for me!
  10. With three kids we buy a ton if cereal from Costco-started getting moths in the house and found they were coming from the cardboard boxes the cereal came in- now we dump all food into storage bins
  11. My spot is about 1:45 away, then a good 30 min SLOW hike....I drive past a lot of deer on the way to this area but it my favorite place to be
  12. Don't worry, you are not alone. I'm out the door in 15 minutes- only benefit of being a "near-the-city" hunter...no traffic at this time of day
  13. Are yoru kidding- that's not my season...it's my hunting CAREER! I've had does 10 yards away prior to legal light. Bucks bed down 45 yards from me only to eventually walk away the same wrong direction he came. Does walk down the one trail over. The only doe that did what she was supposed to was about 15lbs bigger than my 40 lbs Brittany. Tomorrow si the day!
  14. Hey Wooly...DEC is gonna be on you tail for all those sheds! So am I to assume that for every shed found people must report it to DEC? Seems crazy
  15. Amatos gets REAL BUSY- only guy in town - as a result he may not offer many options-will not do cutlets willare my favorites-i have not been to him in years after "my" meat came back in less then stellar condition- meat is placed in cardboard cookie plates and plastic bags tied with twist ties) - I use malafskys (up near rhinebeck so tha sux) in the recent past since he freezer packs everything and will do an cut you want during bow season(we deboned a hind last year and brought it to the Smoke Haus(can't remember the address)for some venison "prosciutto". I heard there is a guy near Croton train station tha is pretty good- small shop that may do your deer while you wait(pure rumor at this point) so you handle the long term storage option (freezer paper or food storage bags).
  16. I have grabbed a few deadheads (my picture is from a deadhead actually) while shed hunting and it never crossed my mind that it could somehow be illegal - knowing NY laws, I better hide e'm!
  17. Nice mahi- I thought you title was bald head..should be "balled-headed"
  18. Back in for the evening...sweating my ballzz off. So glad I left the thermacell in the car- I'd be pretty lonely without all these skeeters! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  19. Holy $hit- a bird of prey just WRECKED A SQUIRREL! Every tree rat is barking up a storm now - what a wild scene Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  20. Another Doe walked out of range and then a big bodied 4 point snuck in behind me- he is either bedding down there(65 yards away) or he evaporated into thin air-dont ya love when they do that! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  21. Beautiful morning sit - let a baby walk on by after she came in to the bleat can-mama hung up and called her baby back-lucky her! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  22. I was out bird hunting this am and saw two parties, each with youngsters duck hunting- it was a nice thing to see. I think Doc is on to something regarding "deer camp" experience being just as important as time in the field. My first experience hunting in the field was miserable-I was woefully underprepared and it was blowing cold, with snow dropping on me all morning- and yet I came back mostly due to the time back at "camp" which was just a motel where my buddy and his grandfather and father told stories of previous hunts and the anticipation of the successes to come.
  23. Exclusive rights is huge! We just got permission to a new land and contacted two others that the owner said had permission..nice people and we were going to stay away from their areas-the firat day we hunted there, we ran into a local who has been hunting the land for years without the owners knowledge and he gave us a hard time- got a call from the owner the next day and WE got booted. I was shocked that the owner just gave us up after we did all be asked.
  24. Perfect title...quite the stud
