Thanks guys. The land owner is having us put it in the corner of his field to try to get rid if some pumpkin eating does. Tough to brush it in the middle of the field so we are hoping the acclimate to its presence...really just hoping my boys(only 8 so they are not "hunting") get a chance at seeing some game even if a shot does not present itself to me

Seeing so many posts about stolen cameras and stands got me worried about my ground blind. It is on private property( not mine so I am not there regularly) but icon have exclusive access. Any ways to secure/lock the pop-up style ground blinds?

This is the thread for me...something I can be proud of(read that as REALLY EMBARRASSED!). I would even post in the what are you driving? thread! 1997 Honda CRV-cherry red-only color they made that year. 140,000 miles- no AC, driver side window does not function, lamest horn I ever heard(would make a great dying doe bleat!)- just waiting for the wife's car payment to be done so I an go shopping( for another second hand El Cheapo Special)

Time in the new ground blind with my 8 year old sons. Would be nice to lay one down as they are there. Other than that my first buck wit a bow woulld be nice!

Hey grow...I got the same bow AND I am giving the 100g Thunderheads a run this season. Hope to knock down that same buck!

We just had a cam taken as well from private land(not ours). Hindsight tells us that we were pretty stupid, setting it close to a road. When we told the landowners, they were less then concerned. "Yeah, people steal crap all the time!" was their response. The also told us that one of their neighbors came by to ask about "A reflection" they were seeing in the woods. Our guess is that's the scumbag, but the landowner refuse to tell us who it is-said we have no proof and they want no problems with neighbors. Shocked by their nonchalance.

Related question...anyone have any luck using the grinders that can attach to a Kitchenaide Stand Mixers?
-
12/13...whoo-who! Only one I got wrong dealt with the moon phase. I guess I'm guaranteed to kill lots of deer now! Some sketch questions though - felt like I was taking NYS test for 3rd graders!

Thanks for all the opinions. My initial thought is that it is okay to freeze-grind-re freeze for the reason that someone mentioned prior. I imagine that most meat we buy in supermarkets have been frozen prior to our purchase, yet the meat I buy is often "fresh" or has been defrosted. But if the sale is too good to pass up, we will stock up and freeze for later use. So that sounds like the Freeze-defrost-re freeze scenario. By harvesting our own meat, we are cutting out the first freeze that supermarket meats get from the slaughterhouse to the supermarket.

Great opening day, regardless of the missed opportunity.

I second doewacker's post. Find a NAVHDA near you. I brought my Brittany to the chapter near Stewart and they were awesome and so good with ME! The dog was great from the start - I needed the training. My only suggestion would be to play lots of hide and seek games with bird wings. Keep dog in the house. Tie a wing to a string off a pole and drag it around your yard- hide it and take dog to the start point with some pulled feathers. See how well your pup stays on the scent-so cool to watch a dog with a great nose. I started the "gunfire" with load claps while he was eating, then moved to a muffled starter pistol while he was distracted chasing a ball or such. Gradually I increased the sound and the proximity to the pup. Good luck and enjoy the journey - take lots of video of first hunts - I never did and SO regret it.

Is there further testing/investigating? And more importantly, why was that dumba$$ reporter chumping on a watermelon in mid-shoot? I hate people!

Settle an argument - I feel that I can freeze the bits that I want to grind all season long(hopefully after a couple deer hit the ground) until the season is complete. Then, defrost those pieces, grind it and then freeze it as ground meat. Wifey thinks I should grind in small batches and then freeze only once as ground. I have some logic behind my thinking but I'm curious as to your thoughts first. What's your procedure when grinding your own?

Am I able to re-apply early? I thought I had to wait to nov? The guy at west often talks about angle fly-where do you ave access?

Bad storm just hitting Westchester right now....ripped my patio umbrella out of its stand and just shattered my table! Awesome-put that on the list of outgoing funds-new dishwasher and fridge were just installed...hard to convince her that the funds are there for new baselayer.

Holy $hit....9 wild dogs!!! Now what with only being allowed 7 in the clip!

It is definitely exciting to see that quality in lands that we have access to but I am not overly convinced he is around for the long haul. I was wondering if the camera set off his routine enough as well.

Checked a buddy's camera this weekend and found a beautiful 10 pointer(sorry i don't have the pic to post). He came through the night after he set the camera, three weeks ago(we have had the cameras up since June with other deer and some decent bucks). After that one picture, the 10 never showed again or appeared on the other camera set not too far away. My buddy's all jacked up that he will kill that deer...I am thinking, "he gone! And he was just passing through"

Hell I've walked up on deer three days before the season and on opening day been in the same woods with no deer to be found! Back to that 6th sense that they seems to senseless are a threat during season

I ask because I am in a westchester management program and need to harvest a doe first. Last year the program supplied dmp's to be used on the lands in the program. As a result, I applied for my doe tags in other areas I normally hunt. It turns out that tags may not be available. If that is the case, I won't be ale to start hunting there until westchester releases more dmp's. kind of sucks since I need to give 15 days(or harvest a doe) but I can't even start until November a this point
-
When are excess doe tags available? I thought it was Nov 1-someone recently told me that in areas that are "giving them away-3s in my case" they are available after October 1.

I know...with my awesome teacher salary (see other post) I should be drinking a higher quality beverage! Lol...just can't get enough of that cheap crap. It s a step up from longneck Black Labels that my father (also an educator-even worse an ADMINISTRATOR) use to splurge for. Maybe when I retire at 40 (hahahaha) and sit around counting my money, I'll broaden my beer expenses! CHEERS!
