  1. But what about all that scent prevention you have done? I can't imagine it is a scent free bug smoke.
  2. In defense of climbers, if everything is done the way it is supposed to be hooked up (attaching bottom platform to top, safety harness, proper fit to the right tree), I really can't see how they are dangerous or more dangerous than being 15-20' high off the ground on an stand. Poor welds and poor materials aside (which ladder stand mos tlikely have as well) I am more comfortable in my climber than a ladder I recently as in. Just my opinion.
  3. Time out....is carrying a firearm legal while bowhunting? I thought there was recently a thread about that?
  4. I did the second shoulder after a good two hour break and some cold ones. The process of dealing with the majority of sinew was a lot less frustrating. My guess is that I was just tired and from now on I will start with the front shoulders and "get it over with" before processing the major pieces.
  5. Do you grind all that snot(for lack of a better word and sinew)? That first shoulder was a real PITA- I don't remember it being that annoying from last year
  6. Nice looking deer. Looks very similar to the area I shot my buck in Putnam - good luck!
  7. I'm butchering my buddy's deer and struggled through one front shoulder(hind ends are done already). Any advice for dealing with all that sinew? Any sections of the shoulder that makes decent steaks/cutlets or is this meat all for ground or cubes?
  8. Best part was throwing the peanut shells on the floor while waiting for your dinner and as a kid it used to be "pay what you weigh" nights. Now, they would probably get sued as a result of all the peanut allergies.
  9. I had a great morning (saw a 4 pointer) today and needed to get out by 9:30...just felt right so I sat 5 more minutes---as I was climbing down I was slammed with rain(forecast was for rain starting a noon). When it came to my evening hunt the weather was predicted to be dicey but the conditions were perfect(thank god they are wrong a lot). Sat till dark with no sign and get a call from my partner who shot a doe. As I was climbing down...your guessed it- buckets of rain. Thankfully he double lunged her and she dropped within 30 yards - no blood trail would have remained. Weathermen suck!
  10. Mountain bikers and dog walkers on public land
  11. I also carry mine upside down so the metal teeth are facing skyward. This allows me to hook my pack back there and I also avoid wrecking my ankles when taking a large step. If you lock the two pieces together properly and use a strap to secure them together I find the noise is not bad-some clanking is inevitable when at the tree base though.
  12. Takes time and practice, especially judging the thickness from bottom to where you are sitting in the tree. While they are bulky, I feel they are worth it to have the ability to adjust within a small range. Pre-scouting is critical to cut down on the prep work on the day of the hunt (clear the base and small limbs, etc.).
  13. I just met a guy at a Dicks who told me that a couple of times a year he gets a rash on his chest where he had a chigger bite in the past. He is convinced it lives under his skin and the rash is a result of it surfacing a couple of times a year....been to a mess of doctors with no solution. It was my first of hearing it so I dismissed him as a looney
  14. In FOUR HOURS!!!! Can't wait for my last class of students to get dismissed then I'm flying out to a westchester property Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  15. Along the same lines, how do you / did you all introduce young ones to the act of harvesting game. My 8 year old twins are jacked up to come this year and sit in a ground blind as spectators. I KNOW they hav no idea what to expect if and when a kill happens. I'm considering showing some of FieldArchers videos..maybe even some field dressing vids from YouTube.
  16. I'm a Copenhagen snuff guy myself... Have been for way too many years with a few long breaks. Whenever I quit, cold turkey is my preferred method but i always stumble upon an excuse to start up again. Every time I go to the dentist I expect Crappy news yet he always tells me all is fine...another excuse to keep chewing. I know It's time when the kids start asking why my spit is brown
  17. Glad you got your stuff back but I was secretly hoping you caught some meth-head waving anit-hunting slogans peddling your gear on a street corner. Somewhat anticlimactic, while happy, ending!
  18. While I agree with the article, what is the mental health solution? All people with a mental health illness should be hospilzed? There are so many people on mood "stabilizing" drugs(antidepressants, anti anxiety, etc), are they considered mentally ill? Can they own firearms if they are taking meds to maintain a normal life? How many present gun owners would refuse their meds if these meds were to remove their guns? Now, you have people who refuse the professional opinion of the mental health profession to keep their guns but now they are more unstable then ever. Banning guns is an easier solution even if they are not the true problem.
  19. Thanks...everything seems damp for lacks a better word-moldy and muddy from sitting for at least two years(my best guess). Is boric acid ( i use thus for ant bait) the same as borax detergent?
  20. ...when walking a piece of land that I have been checked before on a property I have access to. Two things- no hunters must be back there since these finds were in fairly open areas and I clearly have been seeing this land incorrectly if I never walked back there before. New excitement on old property! How can I clean these up a bit? Power wash? Peroxide solution?
  21. Disagree - still waiting for my first buck kill with a bow- I need all the help I can get ... I hate MOST restriction
