Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit
steve863 replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
I don't think racks have anything to do with it. I think plenty of people (male and female) would kill any deer they had a tag for a few minutes before or after legal shooting time. It's not like they are jack-lighting deer in the middle of the night. 99% of these people would NEVER think of doing that. At least I wouldn't. I just think those who say they unload their guns exactly the second legal shooting time ends are not being 100% truthful. It has NOTHING to do with male or female. It's probably against employer rules of many male and female members here to be posting on forums such as this during work hours, yet we still do it. So tell me what rule or regulation isn't sidestepped by people every single minute of the day? I can't think of one. And I sure as heck won't be the one saying that I abide by every single rule someone is throwing at me. I am only being honest. If others can't be honest, then what can I say? I surely won't buy into the idea that they never stray like they are trying to convince me here that they don't. -
I think killing a nice buck can make some guys horny. I know I have an uncle whose wife gave birth to two of his kids about 9 months after he got decent bucks. LOL I guess some guys feel a little more macho after slaying that big beast. LOL

Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit

I have always believed the same. I don't think it would even take a huge buck for most to shoot after legal hours. Be it a doe or a buck, if the season was running out, and they hadn't bagged a deer yet, they sure as hell would be gunning after it as long as they could get their gun sights on it. In fact, I knew one dude, who thought everyone else was a poacher or hunted illegally. One evening a good 20 minutes or more after legal shooting time I saw him unload on a group of deer in an open field. Yeah right, he ALWAYS obeyed the law while everyone else was a bandit! LOL -
Maybe the ones I saw used Gorilla glue to stick them back on? You'd figure a nice buck wants the hunter to use a buck tag on him instead of a DMP tag once he gets put down. LOL

Don't know if anyone has some data on this, but I've seen bucks still wearing their racks as late as early March on LI. Some really big ones, too. I know that in most other locations they have long shed them by then.

I tell you, I just can't stand the derogatory talk against weekend warriors here. Aren't we all weekend warriors in one way or the other? How many here don't have to work and can devote all their time to hunting only? Just because some of you spend some extra time scouting or setting up food plots or cameras makes you somehow think that you are superior to everyone else that hunts? That's BS. Some of you guys are legends in your own minds, and that's about it.
-
Oh, I can resist way better than many hunters I've come across. Your day is coming too, if it hasn't already. If you are telling us that you would let that deer that is standing 10 feet into the neighboring property walk on the last day of an otherwise deer less season you are way more full of it than I am. I am just describing typical human nature, while you somehow think that it can never apply to you.

No Doe, that's one of those prods to milk semen out of bucks. He put one on his rifle so he could try to milk it out of any buck that he might kill outside his pen.
-
Or a bucket of buck semen. LOL
-
I think that doesn't apply to deer you couldn't recover quickly enough. I think that only applies to deer that were found to be diseased. Maybe also if you dispatched a seriously injured deer that was found to be unfit to eat.

Gotta love this forum. You just know that every thread will end with body slams. This video reminds me of what usually happens here. LOL

Read Beachpeaz's post # 34

Oh we know there are elk in PA. Some may make there way to NYS, too, but I haven't heard of any hunting seasons for them here.
-
I had a hunch that this thread would go at least 10 pages. I may not be disappointed! LOL With the polar ice caps melting, how long do you think it will take for the polar bears to move into the Adirondacks? Why should they miss out on the fun the wolves and elk are having here in NYS? LOL
-
We can hunt elk in NY?????????? Where the hell was I that I didn't hear this news announced????????
-
LOL. Another picture where the hunter is sitting a half mile behind his kill.

I'm sure these Havalon knives work, but there is something NOT right using a knife like that for hunting. Nothing like a good quality traditional hunting knife. I resurrected a 50 year old carbon steel knife that used to be my uncles just last year. Had it in my possession for a long time, but never really gave it a second look. It will hold an edge better than any knife I ever owned. I'd like to see if anyone's Havalon will still be gutting and skinning deer 50 years after purchase. I think I know the answer to that one.

Moderators please do NOT close this thread. I couldn't find wrestling on TV tonight, so I am watching the cage match here on the forum. The match is being held in one of Four Season's cages in upstate NY. He had to shoo out a couple of his 250" bucks to make room for the match.

Are you saying Ruger still makes a similar model? I checked their website but I couldn't see any gun like that still being made by them.
-
Yeah, they came over to talk to the old timer, but he is deaf and couldn't understand what they were asking him. LOL

As I said in an earlier post, a number of people here would turn in their grandpappy. One guy saw an old hunting picture of his grandfather dated Oct 28, 1939. The grandfather had one rabbit above the daily limit and the grandson immediately whipped out his cell phone and dialed the 1-800-TIPP DEC that was already programmed in his phone. Talk about having some respect for your elders??
-
The SAINTLY folks on this forum would turn in their granddaddies for violations in 1939!!
-
The outfitter and the hunter in that picture need to thank me kindly for saving them from the wrath of you monsters!! I'm sure some of you might have already put in a call to the DEC. LOL
-
Here you go.

If I remember correctly, Ruger once made a semi-auto in .44 mag caliber. Don't know if they still make it, but I remember them looking very much like a 10/22.
