Does Palladino have a chance?
steve863 replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Jimbo, I think you may have just kicked the beehive with your post! Knowing the typical hunters mentality, they may be out for your blood. Bzzzzz, I can hear them swarming already!! -
Just had to clarify that I would stalk during gun season and not necessarily during the bow season. Although I did kill a deer with a bow many moons ago where I walked up on a deer coming out of the woods. Anything's possible I guess.
-
I doubt one could find any data on it, but I wonder how many treestand accidents involve climbers? I would think the percentage would be a lot higher than ladder stands.
-
Really? I can't say that has been my experience in 30 years of deer hunting. I think a blustery wind is even worse than rain which they are also forecasting for Saturday. Have never had much luck in either unless I stalked. Sometimes you can get lucky in the wind when stalking, but ones senses are not as sharp when you have trees and branches moving and making a lot of noise.

No, I think he meant that the button bucks MEAT tasted rubbery. The latex gloves only FELT rubbery after his last visit to the urologist.

I don't consider it an unfair advantage, I just don't know why I would want to have photos of deer that I may never see during the hunting season? Most hunters hunt smaller and smaller parcels of land these days and just because a deer posed for your trailcamera at one point doesn't exactly mean that he will be there when you are there waiting with your weapon. He may just as easily be on the next property where someone else will probably shoot at him. If I were keen on having deer or any other animals photographed with a camera I would go out into the woods as I would when I hunt and take pictures of them myself. You can get way better pictures, plus it feels like you are actually hunting. Yeah, it takes more time and energy to do it that way, but I for one would be way more interested in seeing such photos over those taken by some automatic camera strapped to a tree.

So if one doesn't see a posted sign in a patch of woods does that give them the right to march right onto it?? I don't think it matters whether they were carrying guns or not. One can't assume that the land is state land or that the private owner welcomes hunters or anyone else just because he hasn't put up posted signs. Those guys were trespassing whether posted signs were up or not and the owner has every right to call the cops on them. Whether they were out to shoot deer, racoons, visit their crops, or just to take a leak the can't just enter onto any land without knowing whether it's state, private or anything else beforehand.

You have every right to be whatever you want. The question is why would you want to be a dead giveaway for anyone who doesn't agree with what you believe in?? Why not make them think a while before they figure you out? Just as you would have unkindly thoughts and assumptions of anyone with an Obama/Biden bumper sticker on their cars, why let the other side do the same to you by giving yourself away to them? To each their own, of course. I myself enjoy being elusive. Can make one a better hunter, too!
-
In most cases if you are a hunter you will be deemed a redneck republican card carrying NRA member by the other half of the nation. If you don't think that isn't in any way a political statement, you are entitled to your opinion. I will not be a giveaway for any side so that they could figure me out so easily.
-
You're right Doe!! The disclaimer should read that some of us hunters won't take any responsibility if the other more sensitive hunters get offended about everything faster than an elementary schoolgirl getting teased about her freckles!
-
I reckon I'd need just a bit more info on FIBO before I'd come to the conclusion that they are full of it!!
-
Great example! These type of hunters are so darned predictable in their behavior and antics that if they were bucks they would be shot at first light on opening morning! They are almost too simple to spot and pattern!!
-
The people wearing the shirts of anything you mentioned here are making absolutely NO statement. There isn't anything controversial with wearing their t-shirts as there would be someone wearing a camo shirt, NRA hat, PETA t-shirt or whether they were pro-life or pro-choice. Big difference in my opinion.
-
Fairgame, no doubt people are going to wear or advertise what they want. I surely can't stop them even if I don't care one bit what their stances are on any given topic. Personally, I just don't care about this kind of stuff. What people like or dislike or what their political stances are should be their own business. If anything they will sway me the wrong way with this such advertising, no matter what the subject, thus I won't be the one advertising my own beliefs to anyone. I think in general more negatives than positives will result from it.
-
I look at it this way. Just as I don't want anyone advertising to me with t-shirts or bumper stickers that they are republican, democrat, catholic, jew, protestant, athiest, a member of PETA, black panthers, neo-nazi party, pro-life, pro-choice, or scores of other things, I will return the favor and not advertise that I am a hunter by wearing camo.
-
The one place I don't want to see hunters wearing their hunting clothes is to a saloon. I tell you, pass by any rural saloon during hunting season and you will see scores of hunters going in and out of them dressed in their hunting clothes. Now if anything will give us a bad rap, it's stuff like that. If your going to drink, drink back at camp, your motel room, home, whatever. If you want to drink in a bar, put your street clothes on!
-
Well, I meant antiquated in the sense that many compound bowhunters change bows more than I change socks! I love it! You are what archery should be all about! It should be a primitive weapon and these high tech gizmos bowhunters are using today are a LONG way from being primitive. Heck, my bolt-action rifle is more primitive than some of these modern compound bows.
-
Great post! There isn't anything I would disagree with. The only thing I would add is that it's other hunters also with the same mentality, and not only bowhunters. I know what you mean about some of this lingo. The "whack em and stack em" term irks me more than any. You will find quite a few people, even on this forum, who will defend him and others like him until they are blue in the face. There is absolutely NO way that these clowns could be putting hunting in a positive light to non-hunters with this type of behavior and language. Absolutely NO way. I am absolutely dumbfounded that these hunters can't seem to figure this out!
-
Yeah, by the same guy who photo shopped that photo in the circle of life thread! At least he could have put in a girl with less clothes on!
-
I think I'm reasonably good out to 30 yards, but shooting at live deer is a whole different ballgame than shooting at foam targets. A whole lot can happen while you are sending that arrow towards a live deer even at a reasonable range. I think a lot of bowhunters don't worry about these things, but I sure do. The closer the animal is to me, the better I feel that something bad won't happen. Now whether the deer will cooperate and come within 20 yards, is a different story!
-
I don't even drive to or back from my hunting trip in hunting clothes. The fewer people know that I am a hunter, the better I feel!
-
I agree with others on the safety issues in confronting such people directly. If you would have waited for the police they surely would have gotten the plate numbers since the car was parked there, plus they could have simply waited for them by their car and they would have definitely been caught. Confronting them directly helped them get away in this case.

LOL! Actually, the bottom pin is my 20 yard pin, which is the ONLY pin I use. I have mentally marked off trees that are 20 yards from the stand I intend to be in and will not shoot at a deer unless it is standing within these marks. I just don't feel confident shooting at a deer over 20 yards for various reasons. I have never considered myself a good bow shot, but I have never found a bow difficult to shoot accurately out to 30 yards. I honestly think it's easier to be a good shot with a bow (at least at foam targets!) at moderate range than it is with a rifle in field positions at 100 yards.

Lets see some more trail camera photos! 2010 Edition
steve863 replied to HuntingNY's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Not a trailcam photo, but one I took with my camera while out turkey hunting this weekend. Not the sharpest photo because I had to crop it in a bit. He was about 60 yards from me when I saw him. He was a 6 pointer. As usual, got to see deer but NO turkey while turkey hunting! -
Finally took a couple of photos of the bow. Shot it for the first time in a number of years this weekend and it still shot dead on at 20 yards. Only if I could shoot that well at a live deer!
