Experiencing the same thing! My daughter just turned 16... YIKES! Have to give them some freedom and trust that they'll make the right decisions. I make my presence and unpredictability known, so they never know where or when I might show up. I know what I was like at that age, so I don't expect her to be an angel, but I also don't want to be on the next season of "16 and Pregnant" either! My older son keeps an eye on her social media and keeps me informed of anything I should know about. Being a good big brother, he's concerned and looks out for her too! I have her convinced that I have a "special program" on my computer that monitors social media and gives met automatic updates.

Congrats on the hunt Dinsdale! That's one cool looking bull! Beautiful scenery too! That'll be a trip to remember!

My son graduated college last weekend and accepted a position in NH. We'll be spending the next 3-4 weekends in NH scouting out area towns to live in, search for an apartment, and getting him moved in...

I don't know squat about boxing, but saw the fight. I thought Pacquiao should have won. It was pretty uneventful overall...

Congrats! Great birds and cool hunts!

Beauty of a bird! Congrats!

Oh God no. There was only 3-4 hunters on ~120 acres and we only had 1 doe tag each. One adjoining landowner won't even shoot does. Its mountain country, so no crop damage permits either. Of course, the increase in coyotes and bear in the area might have a lot to do with it.? They were unheard of in that area, until 15-20 years ago.

I hunted in PA every year from 1978-2002 on the same family property. It was over run with deer. If I didn't see "at least" 50 deer on opening day of rifle season, something was wrong (or I was sleeping)! My family still owns and hunts the property. If they see 3-5 deer now on opening day, they're lucky! Some years they don't see any. They seldom ever get bucks anymore! Pretty frustrating!

NICE!! Was that just from one day of hunting??

Ice Dam............................................
Cabin Fever replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
I was getting pretty worried about the ice dams around my house yesterday. There's ~8" of ice piled up above my gutters! Never had it this bad before! Thought I'd get proactive and do something, before I started having problems with leaking inside. I filled some stockings with calcium chloride yesterday and laid across the roof and gutters. I was pretty satisfied with how well and quickly it worked. A few hours after putting them up there, we could hear chunks of ice falling off! Hopefully it'll give the water a nice channel to run down now. Also, it softened up the ice on each side of the channel, so that I could easily widen it with a few "soft whacks" with a hatchet. -

I use the Rag Bag Target for fieldpoints. Simple 2 finger removal! Buy the bag ($18-$25 depending on where you buy it), stuff it with old clothes, and have at it! Don't know what the bag itself is made of, but it has a lifetime warranty. If a spot starts getting soft, just shuffle the clothes around inside, repack, and you're good to go! http://www.thirdhandarchery.com/product.asp?PRODID=9 This video is boring, but skip towards the end to see the easy bolt removal.

I think they should start handing out some shovels! LOL http://comptroller.nyc.gov/newsroom/cold-hard-facts-cost-of-ice-and-snow-removal-in-new-york-city-averages-1-8-million-per-inch/ PR15-01-010 NEWS RELEASE Contact : Eric Sumberg, [email protected], 212-669-3535 January 29, 2015 COLD, HARD FACTS: COST OF ICE AND SNOW REMOVAL IN NEW YORK CITY AVERAGES $1.8 MILLION PER INCH New Comptroller Stringer analysis reveals per inch cost grows with very low or very high seasonal snowfall amounts New Comptroller Stringer analysis reveals per inch cost grows with very low or very high seasonal snowfall amounts (New York, NY) – Light snow and heavy snow seasons are significantly more expensive than average snow seasons on a cost-per-inch basis, according to a new analysis released today by New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer. Since the winter of 2003, the cost of clearing New York City streets of snow and ice has averaged $1.8 million per inch, but that amount has varied considerably on a year-to-year basis. “Snow removal costs the City millions of dollars annually, but it turns out that average winters give us the best bang for the buck on that front,” Comptroller Stringer said. “The total amount that the City pays to plow our streets grows with each storm, but counterintuitively, it’s a lot more expensive per inch when we get a little, or a lot, of snow in a season. Consider the old adage of $1 million per inch debunked.” The City budgets annually for snow removal based on the average amount spent over the previous five years. However, the amount the City spends varies according to snowfall amounts during the winter season. Annual costs for ice and snow removal range from a low of $25.4 million to a high of $130.7 million and averaged $55.3 million from FY03-FY14. For the same period, annual snowfall totals averaged 35.9 inches per year, with a high of 61.5 inches in FY11 and a low of 6.8 inches in FY12. The Comptroller’s Office analyzed ice and snow removal using two major components-personal services, such as employee overtime, and hourly wages for temporary workers, and other than personal services, such as payments to snow-removal contractors, the cost of materials, equipment, fuel, maintenance and training. While total costs vary year by year, the per-inch cost of snow and ice removal followed a declining cost curve and averaged $1.8 million from FY03-FY14. However, the costs per inch of snow removal are significantly higher in light snow years than in heavier ones. The lowest cost-per-inch was $740,000 in FY03 when the City experienced a snowfall amount of 55 inches. The highest observed cost was $4.4 million per inch in FY12 when only 6.8 inches fell. Higher costs for winters with little snowfall are driven mainly by the fact that, no matter how much snow falls, the city must take certain precautions to be ready for any eventuality. The sweet spot of optimal per inch costs lands at approximately 43 inches. However, if snowfall exceeds the band within 24 and 56 inches per season, history shows that costs begin to rise again on a per inch basis due to the sheer scale of the task at hand. Costs for personal services similarly tracked the pattern of lower costs per inch when snow fall fell within the average range: higher costs were seen when snowfall was less than 13 inches or more than 43 inches. The two years with the most snow – FY11 and FY14 – were 125% and 136% above the average annual cost, respectively. Both of these fiscal years were characterized by large storms early in the season. “The men and women who keep our streets clean deserve all the credit in the world for keeping us safe. Winter weather can be unpredictable, but with this analysis we can reasonably predict what the cost of keeping our streets free of snow and ice will be for any given snowfall amount. The more we know about our costs, the better prepared we can be for our budgeting,” Stringer said. - See more at: http://comptroller.nyc.gov/newsroom/cold-hard-facts-cost-of-ice-and-snow-removal-in-new-york-city-averages-1-8-million-per-inch/#sthash.IHCO5S3e.dpuf

I was in a head on car accident in 2005 and blew out discs in my back. The pain was unbearable for a year or so. Daily use of nacrotics and a TENS unit kept me sane. The docs suggested either back surgery (with no promises) OR implanting one of those internal TENS units (with an external remote) into my back to relieve the pain OR narcotics for the rest of my life. I started seeing a chiropractor 2-3x/week and he suggested trying exercise to strengthen the back muscles, as they might push the discs and joints into place and keep them there. I thought he was NUTS, as just sitting or standing put pressure on my back and caused me unbearable pain. Thought how could I possibly exercise? After weighing my options and doing research, I ended up doing Yoga, specifically focusing on the back. Within weeks, I was amazed at the results! Within a couple of months, I was back to being 100%!! No more narcotics or TENS unit! Really gently strengthens, tones, keeps joints from being sore/stiff, and stretches muscles you didn't even know you have! Helped me mentally to clear my head and focus also. I still do it a few times a week, just for those reasons. Hope it works for you too!
