Nice bucks! That bigger one is a real beauty!

Great buck! How do you like the Primos cam? I've been toying with the idea of getting one.

Ground blind - stand stool or chair. What's good & comfortable?
Cabin Fever replied to nyslowhand's topic in Deer Hunting
I started out with the collapsible chairs. They were comfortable, but you kind of sink down in them and they are sometimes tough to get out of if you're in a hurry. I then switched to the 3 legged collapsible stools that swivel (got mine at walmart hunting section for ~$10). If the ground is very soft, the legs will sink down in, but the legs are extendable on mine, so no biggie. Its very nice and convenient being able to swivel around while you're on the lookout. Plus, the stools don't take up as much room as a chair. If you're planning on a long sit, and maybe squeezing in a nap, a chair with arms would be more comfortable. I sometimes take a hotseat and put on top of the stool to make it a little more cushioned and comfortable. -
Not sure what this is? Deer Scrape?
Cabin Fever replied to Landowner's topic in Hunting Related Pictures
Yeah, I agree that seems like some type of attractant (salt, minerals, etc...) was there for the deer to paw it down 3". -
He sure looks like a young buck too. Probably 1 1/2 or possibly 2 1/2 at most.

I got a pic of a piebald spike in '06. Then I got pics of him again in '07 and saw that he was sporting a basket 8pt rack! Pretty neat and no one can dispute it's not the same buck! He's pretty identifyable! Actually, if you look closely at the tall skinny tree in the background, the pics were taken in the exact same spot too! Never saw him or got any more pics of him!

Here's a pic of a pretty cool looking buck with a palmated rack. I got this pic in Sept. '07. Never got anymore pics of the buck or seen him. Forgive the pic quality. I was using 35mm trailcams then and had to scan my pics!

Hi Ron - Glad you jumped in! Nice to have fresh meat around!

Do you hunt much during the mid-day (10am-2pm)? Had any luck? I've read and heard guys saying that mid-day hunting is so great during the rut. I can honestly say that I don't recall ever seeing any deer while hunting in the mid-day, unless they were spooked by someone (still hunting). I've tried hunting the mid-day during a full moon, as I don't see any deer early morning or late afternoon, so I figure WTH... Nothing! I've sat all day in my stands during early Nov, as they say bucks will be moving all day looking for does.... Nothing! Am I the only one??

I just watched the latest Deer and Deer Hunting show on Versus. Charlie Alshemier was on there with his annual rut predictions. He said that after the Oct. full moon, activity will pick up some until the first few days of Nov. From Nov. 7-14, there will be very little activity and sightings. Then activity will be great the week of Thanksgiving (gun season). Sounds like he's really sticking his neck out on this one, predicting so little activity the 2nd week of Nov.

Yep, did the poor guy a favor! Too bad!

Nice! I can't wait until I start getting picks of bucks that are rubbed out!

Sure is a nice buck!

OUCH!! I had NO idea they cost so much now! I feel old...

Our outhouse at camp has a box type base with a toilet seat. Inside the box is a 5 gallon bucket where all the crap goes. When you want/NEED to empty it, you just take the lid off, lift the bucket out, and head out to dump it. We do put ~1 gallon of water in the empty bucket and a packet of stuff that I got from Walmart in the camping section that they use in camper toilet holding tanks to break the waste and paper down and to deodorize.

Looking forward to seeing them rubbed out! I just checked my cams 2 days ago and the bucks that I got pics of haven't started rubbing yet. Did see something strange though... Last week as I was leaving camp, I saw 2 bucks and a little fawn running out of a clover plot. I figured there must have been a doe with them that I didn't see. Then this week, I got pics of the trio traveling together. Seems strange that a little spotted fawn would be running with two 1 1/2 yr old bucks!

So funny you mention that!!! I H-A-T-E that segment!!! They critque the shot and even if the deer only ran 50 yards before collapsing, they will tell you how it "could have been done better"! Screw them! I usually DVR the show, so I can fast forward through that part and commercials!

Starter Trail Cam Recommendations?
Cabin Fever replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Mine uses up to 2GB also. Bushnell Trophy Cam '10 model takes up to a 16GB card! HOLY CRAP!! Why you would need something that large is beyond me! -
OK, so now I'm leaning towards "no".... ;D

Plus, these poor SOB's only get it for a few days per YEAR!! OUCH!! This reminds me. I was watching a hunting show on the Outdoor Channel a couple days ago called Inside Outdoors. They were bowhunting during the rut in Kansas. Before they showed this particular hunt, they said that they weren't prepared for what they saw next.... A big buck appears chasing a doe hard. I kept getting glimpses of something and wondered to myself, what the hell is that colored thing was next to the buck all the time? As the buck got closer and in the open, you could see it was an arrow hanging out of his shoulder!! It looked like a sharp quartering away shot with just the broadhead burried in his shoulder, but the rest of the arrow was bouncing around along side him as he ran chasing the doe!! He chased that doe HARD and right by the hunters, but they couldn't get him to even slow down for them to get a shot at him. Now if an arrow in the shoulder didn't even seem to to slow his desire to breed, I don't know what would? I must admit, that would probably even slow my libido for a while!

I tried it again but it got kicked back. Says it was over the size limit or your mailbox is full. No biggie... Thanks for offering though!

Starter Trail Cam Recommendations?
Cabin Fever replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Are you sure it was the Trophy Cam that you bought? I didn't know they carried that one. I just checked the Walmart site and they have a couple of Bushnell cams, but they're not the Trophy Cam. How much did you get it for? -
Finally got some pics of Bucks in the plot
Cabin Fever replied to burmjohn's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Nice! Yeah, both bucks in that one pic are rubbed out. Those are the first ones that I've seen this year without velvet.
