  1. Sorry guys, i skimmed through this thread....if putting into the PA Elk Lotto....how does it work...do you need to fork up the money up front and if you don;t draw, oh well....or if you do draw then you pay? I though I saw they were about $600 bucks for us but that may have gone up....any info would be great!
  2. Nice!! Nothing like a late season score and an early Christmas present!! Congrats!
  3. Took me a while to figure out what end that actually was!
  4. Sorry to hear that Larry...but keep going! I think that your gonna get a slammer with that old model 11. Dad will be looking down on you! My Condolences!
  5. Not sure Doc, but if you want to try and disappear what do you wear? B/O or Camo....? I think a lot of folks may be hunting in qustionable areas.....and don't necessarly want to be seen. That is the only reasoning i come up with.
  6. Bubba, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well! I'll repeat myself once more...I wasn't trying to make this a BO war. I know a lot of guys that wear camo (most of them wear some orange while walking and take it off when they are up their tree). With regards to my own situation, I have a 3 yr old at home and don't want her to be fatherless because someone identified me incorreclty...so i wear orange. to be safe! The guys I saw were in full camo and face masks walking very slow. It was in mature hardwoods and pretty brushy...I always look for other people no matter what they wear...the fact of the matter is that if the trees line up properly and the brush is thick enough your not gonna see the camo unless you are superman. The entire time this guy was gutting the deer I couldnt make him out with bino's. I could only see some "glaring" occasionally, which was either his knife or his cell phone reflecting the sun and the deer's belly. And the reason I didn't get down and give him a piece of my mind is becasue I haven't hunted that much this year....I figured with all the walking around they were doing they make kick something my way and my daugther want me to bring home a "bucky deer"....so I stayed in the stand to continue my hunt. The other instance where this happend to me I gave them a good piece of my mind and told the kid that this is not the right way to learn....espically since they were tresspassing.
  7. I don't assume anything when it comes down to it.....you started to take this thread that BO should be mandatory. By no means was I saying that as I stated from the beginning (It's my opionion that it shoudl be warn espically with a kid in tow)...seems like you have one agenda...NO BO! Besides that you said I was unsafe and should identify more clearly......If you were in my shoes you would be saying the same thing as I said..these people were not identifiable...you wouldn't have seen them either.
  8. Bubba, where are you? c'mon.....i figured you would at least give us your professional instructer opinion....? At the worst you would assume something.....!
  9. Bubba, I don't know you from a hole in the wall but apparently some of these guys/gals do....I'm not sorry that i offended you! Apparently you like to make assumptions..........as i said earlier, I know it is not ilegal and I am not trying to start a B/O war...its simply my opinion and a safe one at that! I hunt private property as well and should know who is on there....God help you if you have a trespasser on your land that mistakes you as a deer. Maybe he was an individual that you instructed!! C'mon dude.....you can't be serious as an instructor! BTW, your assumptions about me only looking for orange are way off. I know how people/hunters are and am constantly looking for camo/B/O/other...I am safe and will not take the shot unless i am certian of the background...my point is that as hard as i looked i couldn't see these people in camo. After thinking about it and figuring out who they were....they should not have been where they were, they didn't have permisson, probably why they had camo on and were trying to hide...they were TRESPASSING.. GREAT LESSON TO TEACH HIS SON!!! I HOPE YOU TEACH THAT IN YOUR HUNTER SAFTEY COURSE!
  10. Very true....not trying to pin this just on us....but these guys were probably 75 yards away from me and I wouldn't have a clue they were there..and even though I was in orange I don't think they new i was there...that caused me some concern!
  11. Sorry guys....it has happend to me twice (that I know of) where I have had the gun up on a deer that I thought was safe (after veryifying my surrounding and potential target areas) only to find out that it may not have been for one reason or another.....besides the fact that it pisses me off, I just want everyone to be safe.
  12. And after 14 views and no replies I am assuming alot of people just wear camo. I'm not trying to start an arguement here...but it has been proven the deer don't see orange, just the void that it leaves...hell, wear orange camo, at least somethin to be as safe as possbile, espically when hunting with a KID!!
  13. Yeah, we just got rocked....seemed like it was directly over us...saw the flashes and then boom! Kinda like hunting state land....hahah
  14. So the last weekend during the reg southern zone season I was out hunting. My plans changed last minute and I went to a different part of the property. I got in late but got settled pretty quick. Before I climbed the tree I looked around for flash lights or any orange I could see. Once up in my tree I did the same and then once again when it was nice and light..well here comes what I thought was 6 ptn. (thought to myself, I already got one of those this year, he gets a pass). As he walks around my stand i notice another point and then another...wow, he is an 8. As he starts to walk away and I have the gun up on him I start to think he looks really wide. (I know they say they always look bigger that way). Well wouldn't you know it I pulled the gun off him before he crested the hill....with in 20 seconds i hear BOOM! and there goes ther deer, dead within 150 yards from me maybe closer. I stand up to make sure my orange is in full view and don't see anything for about 15 min...then all I see is a back tag moving through the woods......on a kid (maybe 9-10 based on his hieght)! Finally after straining through the bino's for a few minutes (and only at 100 yards) I can make out two figures, in full camo and facemasks....looks to be a father and son! I watched them the entire time gut the deer and all i could see was the white belly of the deer. The kid left...I never saw him until i heard the quad come back. All this time (about 45 mins to gut the deer) I don;t think they ever saw me and I looked like a pumpkin....I mean the father was talking on the phone for a good 10 mins....I was max, 150 yards away...could they not have seen me????!! The entire time I was debating gettin out of the stand, congratulating them and then giving them a piece of my mind......for all i know they could have been directly behind where the deer crested the hill and pointed at me...I guess i could live with that cuz I am still alive....but what if for some reason they were in the direct line of the deer i was shooting.....I never would have seen them!!! What is this father teaching his son...I know it's not illegal but come on....If i pulled the trigger and something bad happened I would not be able to live with myself....and to no fault of my own. This is why we should all have some type of orange on during gun season, if not for you, for the rest of us.....sorry, just needed a place to vent as I was pissed!
  15. I think if I saw a lion in NY while hunting I would shoot it and call all the news stations just to prove that they are here. Then obviously deal with the consequences....which shouldn't be that bad, maybe only a fine of a few hundred bucks.
  16. Question with regards to sunrise? Isn't it legal to hunt yotes now as well as deer? (don;t know the exact laws cause i don;t hunt for yotes). If this is the case, couldn't thouse shots be legal as you can hunt yotes at night?
  17. One guy got me doing 80 right before salt point going south. It was after I spent all morning in the woods, didn't see a thing and was getting slaughtered by my wife for being late. Trooper looked at me, looked at my bow in the back seat.....and I told him don't even ask...didn't see a f'in thing. he started laughing and asked me if my wife was pissed....we both laughed and he let me go! He was a hunter!
  18. Definitely a great lunch to break away from work and meet someone who has the same Passion (especially when you have great stories and conversation). Just one of the reason I like this site. I'll get the pic up as soon as I can....
  19. So what is the verdict? When did you head out and did you find her?
  20. Whose to say it was your gut pile and you new it was there? I mean come on.....someone really needs a stick up there ass to get you on that.
  21. I'm gonna skip the welcome and just say THANK YOU!! I have a feeling your gonna score big time this year!
  22. Thanks for the feedback guys....i have been telling her she can go when she is 5, although maybe we will go next year....we will have to see. We go hunting in the back yard, it's hysterical......!! So today, my MIL ask me why i didn't go hunting this weekend and my daughter said he already got one. WOW say MIL...then my daughter asks me if he bit it? I said bit what? She goes...did he bite the gun when you shot him? Like fishing?? All i could do was laugh as I tried to explain that is was using the bow that she sees daddy use in the back yard during the summer. Of course that was followed by, where is your bow....? I never thought it would be this tough to explain things to kids.........
  23. So here is my question....when have you brought your kids into the woods. I have a 3 yr old daughter that was crawling around my house blowing a grunt tube at 18 months. She like to pet my deer that is mounted and everyday when I drive her to school we look for deer and she asks a ton of questions....right no the kick we are on is that deer poop we found in the yard looks like black olives..it makes me laugh everytime she says it...anyway, she wants to go with me. When i was out las weekend my wife called me and she got on the phone...she told me i couldnt go hunting without her! (broke my heart). I have been telling her that when she is 5 she can come with me, but what have you all done? I figure that I can go to a nice place during bow season ans sit in a ground blind for about 45min to an hour and then we would be done...keep it short, keep them interested and get them hooked!!
