  1. Hell of a job and guttin it as well. Ain't no blood on the belly...........I usually get some on there but it looks like you cut the belly out to the brown hair>>>?I always just sliced down straight from the sternum to the hole..... until I saw a buddy of mine cut out "basically all the white belly hair"...it seemed to be mutch easier to gut. Gave you more room to manover.
  2. Down in southern NY it is tough to find land to hunt (at least from what I have seen and witnessed). There is not a lot of state land but there is some (although i do not hunt that land because there is so little I believe that it would be very crowded.... )Upstate, from what you guys are saying is a much different story:as i would imagine.....you could walk for miles without running into anything...doesn't happen down here. I would love to be able to do that but the reality of it is that I cannot drive 3 hours to get there and hunt for a few hours to drive home again,,,,,family calls. So i do what i can to be in the woods and make the family balanced...I guess what I am getting at is that access is a big part. I don;t know what the numbers are but i would bet that the population per square mile is much more in the southern half of the state....where many hunters could be gained.....however all there is, is concrete and liberals that don't allow hunting, NO state land...that's a problem. It's tough to hunt as it's all provate land and small lots.......

    Elk in 3H

A guy i work with went to PA last year for an ultra marathon. After me telling him about the Elk in PA he did some reasearch and found out that he would be in the general vanicnity. He sought them out and wound up in the middle of them, He took some amazing pics.....I;ll try and transfer them from one computer to another when I rememebr...you guys would be impressed. He was within 15 feet of a nice bull!!! After I saw the pics and he describe the musty smell.....I told him he was out of hi freakin mind. He had no clue......but i love this guy, he's awesome!
  4. No issues for me....the only thing (and I am not sure if it me or my new Thunderbolt phone).....with the mobile version, sometimes when i try and go back up the layers of threads i get to the "home" section and it only displays threads down to the General Chit Chat, when i try and go back once more to home, I get all the threads....not sure if that makes sense...its probably just me.
  5. I do have one question......on a buck of that caliber, why would one drag it with a rope around the neck and ruin the hide for the mount.....instead of holding the horns......????
  6. im a yankee fan through and through...but i gotta day we may have some trouble with Detroit....not the best match up for us.
  7. Upstate, keep asking questions.......you'll get a lot of good answers. ( just realized ur a newbie to hunting ) good luck this year.
  8. I still don't understand why we are limited to hunting with a shotgun for deer but can use a rifle for predators??? I always thought that it was a safety thing until I reread the regs regarding predator hunting....I thought I read it wrong, so I read it over and over and had my father read it over and over.....It makes no sense to me that we can use a rifle in these counties but only shotgun for deer. Anyone have any thoughts about that?
  9. John, that sounds delicious!
  10. A little dry sausage or suprasod (sp).......deer seem to like it and I sure do enjoy it. We got a lot of Italian deer in dutchess.
  11. We are in a huge mess. Gonna be tough to get out and Obama ain't doing nothing. Sh*te gotta stop soon or we are really screwed........
  12. Where are you hunting and how long do you anticipate the shots.....? My father and I share two 12g guns....a Rem 1100 with a scope and a browning "something" that is a bird gun with just the front bead. Depending on where we are sitting we switch guns...in all honesty, neither of us have missed a shot with the bird gun out to 40 yards...so depending on the shots you are looking at.....?? you could be fine.

    Times

No bears yet, but the thought of it scares me. I usually walk in with a light but don't use it until I get to the tree I'm gonna climb so I can see what I'm doing. I feel like I'm lighting up the woods and will be attacked from behind !!! Normally in in 30 min before its gets light but it depends on where I'm hunting.
  14. correct me if i am wrong, but it is commom practice to leave the powder and sabot in the gun from the first time u load it until you shoot it at a deer or until the end of the season. (at least that's what i have heard from a few people...) Thus far, I wlak in to the woods with the powder and sabot in the gun and walk out empty.
  15. I was gonna say is that a growth or a tick? If that's a tick that might be a record book tick!!!
  16. 600 or 800 acres to hunt,,I would cream my pants. I hunt with a buddy from this site on 160 which is very nice, but 600+.....i could lose myself....
  17. Best advice I ever got was "keep at it, no matter hoe long it takes"......just keep plugging along and your day will come.It will be one sweet day!! BTW, where is East Otto?

    Tics

Shower with "Head and Shouldders" after hunting.....supposedly it has something in it that tics don;t like.....I was fine for years until i ran out and the wife was slacking and didn;t get me any...all of a sudden i had two tics in a week. Not sure if it actually works, but it really seemed like it did.........i was all over the woods and the yard and nothing, until i ran out.
