  1. not to derail an argument... but this is exactly how I feel. mind you I just started hunting but I chose a recurve for the skill involved in shooting one. I hunted sterling forest bow season last year. hiked in like a mile and a half and didn't see ANYONE not one time I was on huntable ground. when I would leave I always saw a few cars scattered here and there. but not a path crossed. switched to mainly Westchester in rifle and late season and though I did see plenty of deer some days when there were not a lot of hunters around the deer were nice and calm... now on days when there were a bunch of guys pushing deer around with compounds in hand the deer were MOVING and once they stopped never saw a deer. after they pushed to me the second time and then back i figured i would move to where i new they were gonna go. so i did and like clockwork here they came. this time they pushed 3 deer straight to me but i only had about a 5 to 10 second window and i wasn't all the way up in my tree. truly pissed me off. they moved past me with no regard for my hunting. it public and everyone has a right to hunt the way they want but MAN i was pissed. figure with xbows there will be a lot more of that from the gun guys and the new guys. such is life i guess, gotta learn to go with the flow
  2. Goin from an empty woods to possibly being crowded is a reason to bellyache. I wasnt standin arm and arm with xbowers but i wasnt against it. There is a benefit and a drawback. I always looked at em like they were rifles with less powere. And after lookin into em so my wife can be like darly (her words) i still feel the same. But im just learnin
  3. This seprember i plan on taking advantage of early bow with my last seaon tags. Lookin at a weekend in the fingerlakes area ( bah meant 6g area). I will prolly have one scouting trip to do it which will be me spending some qt with family camping and trying to scout. I have no idea whos lland is what let alone how to get in contact with anyone. I plan to send letters and call to adjecent land owners. But if i find a spot thats close to someones property i will do my due dilignce but i am goin to hunt it. I live 5 hours away and cant knock on doors so easy. Maybe it will be easy. I doubt it. But im not not gonna hunt it
  4. im pretty sure there are a lot of other animals that can carry those ticks. course im not scientist and I don't know for sure and im just being lazy to google it. on a side note.... they have a bow season out there that last through the end of march???
  5. got two setups drury evolution http://www.cabelas.com/product/Big-Game-Treestands-Drury-Evolution-Treestand/1373480.uts got it with free shipping if you google around its 150 tops weight 10 pounds. my five year old can toss it around with http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/3-pk-of-32-climbing-sticks.aspx?a=1518620 mobility - weight is like 7.5 pounds. - costs like 90 then I got http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/guide-gear-quick-sticks.aspx?a=686930 quick sticks for like 30 bucks and http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=546779 stand for like 40 bucks the second set is like 30 pounds, I move it when I have to but it was a beast to move that with my winter gear on so I got a lighter setup. which my wife stole also invested in a nice seat cushion for the beast stand. looking to fashion something together for it to set my feet on and lounge as well.
  6. Never asked for permission to recover before but have asked to hunt. Not everyone is nice about it. I just stared hunting and been made to feel like i was more of a bother than anything. I dont always get time in advance to ask and knockin on a door becore dawn would likly get ya shot in some places. Just sayin its not bein disrespectful for some noobs. Like me.
  7. Thought recurves were louder? Looked at some excals and she thinkd they are to heavy. Got her a stand anx sticks that weigh under 20 ponds and she complainin. Toss on another ten and ima turn hef off. Mind u i will be luggin it in prolly. Tryin to keep light and save cash. Her gun permit, shotgun and gear are settin me back a bit.
  8. Dont understand why someone wants a dead deer on there property less they gonna take it
  9. need something light that wont punch my wallet. for the wife who may or may not stick with it but will prolly be passed down to my son in a few years was looking at the Barnett recruit but not real sure
  10. saw that vid, then saw an attachement for a compound that basically makes it a vertical xbow and it was only around a 100
  11. Recurve shooter self taught. First deer i shot was low and likly lived. Still kick myself over it. But live and learn. I shoot everyday at at least 10 yards in my house mlre when im at range. Gettin an xbow for my wife and mmmmmaaaaybe a comp for me only because i realize u gotta be versatile.
  12. Got a blind for me my wife a 2 year old and a 5 year old. Gonna be a tight squeeze but im tqkin a tablet with kid movies they like and headphones with a deer cart im addin a little seat to.
  13. This is why im not to mad about it and plan on gettin one. I want it for a blind and thats it. If im stalkin or in a stand im usin a bow. Plus it will be easier to get my friends more interested as learin a bow takes alot more time

  15. Hehe yeah forgot about that. That ll be interesting. Just waitin till they get older. Figure eventually all her boys will be hunting with me .
  16. Probably, we grew up in the city and its been beaten to death that guns are bad and guns do bad things. I lost that mentality spendin time in kentucky and colorado. Brought her around to it from her seing me doing the outdoor thing and gettin serious with archery. Nephew loves it. And she has 3 boys comin up that i want to spend more time with. Brought another of my nephews a bow but he lives in maryland. Will definitly invite her to see my son shoot at archery but she stuck him in boyscouts. So gonna have to work that out. Its just down here people seem to think all weapons are bad. Even at work people raised an eybrow or two when i started. Its crazy
  17. Learned to shoot on my own late in life. PITA, learned to hunt on my own, HUGE PITA, raising my kids on it. They love spending time with daddy and think its all cool. Livin in the city family and friends thought it was cool. But when i try to introduce them to it its like they are scared of gettin in trouble. My sister wont even let me take my nephew out to the range. She said she dont want him takin it to school. At first she was cool with it but now thats what i hear. Im afraid hunting will one day be a thing of the past.
  18. Love the youth hunt, when my kids get that age they will take part for sure. I have a right to complain if I choose... and personally I don't see deer as simple dumb animals, what hunter wouldn't want a longer season. hell if I could hunt ever other weekend for the entire year I would. recurve in my opinion the hardest to hunt with. first time I shot a rifle I was knocking targets down with no problem after setting up my equipment.first time I shot a recurve I couldn't hit crap crossbow are fine but to me they are one step below a rifle so stick im in their own week like they did and im happy. as far as hunting with a bow you don't sound like you did it much. and if you did i bet you were one of those guys who go out in huge groups with compounds walking around pushing deer hoping to get a shot on a running deer.
  19. More hunters in the woods during archery is a pisser but thats me being selfiish. My wife gettin in the woods with me during archery is a plus. Being able to use an xbow in a blind a plus (recurve shooter. Pita in a blind) Last year i saw a handul of duchbags in some woods when i was on some state land. Guessin thats gonna be a bit more now.
  20. Sweet. Now to get a crossbow
  21. i don't get why do this when it cant be to hard to dispose of them properly
  22. yup got the itch bad... feel terrible heading out without the family, wife loves to get out to, she gave me crap hunting season about it, this season she getting her license don't like bow. starting to hate ny more and more. this place aint outdoors friendly. Pochuck was the plan, but with the uncertain conditions and rain been holding off. my five year old is a trooper but he has a habbit of jumping in puddles maybe I will buy him some decent rain gear or something other than the poncho he has and head out with him for an over nighter. with temps in the 50's next weekend if it aint gonna rain will prolly hike the Appalachian up with him. been wondering if I can park at that little spot on the road by pochuk right before pochuck starts. looks like its part of the peoples property right across the road but I never been to sure. wanted to hike in from there up that creek to the south but just went in to the entrance. really gotta get me a truck that can hold two dogs and two kids. jeez, either that or start car camping which I am strongly opposed to. always have issues findin a spot close I can bring my dogs
