How many hours spent deer hunting ?
The_Field_Ager replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
So far probably about 20 sits of varying length for a total of roughly 35 hours. That's a gestimate. I don't log times. I do take mental note of the most productive stands and times. Would have been more if I had not gotten my Buck a week ago. I definitely hunt harder during bow versus gun. Gun is meat time for me usually and I generally have one or 2 spots where I know I can drop a freezer filler after 2 or 3 sits. -
I've tried recreating that sound with my grunt call before. No luck on my model. Might get a new one.Seen it done.

BigBoy still on his feet as of yesterday morning. I think I might have his main travel route pinned down now. Might be all she wrote for this guy come gun season: -
Taking antibiotics all the time is no good, for sure. But if you don't quash lymes in the early stages you are stuck with it. It is almost impossible to get over and cure. It invariably becomes a chronic condition. Best thing to do is to take every precaution in order to avoid being bitten at all. If I was pulling ticks off my body every year all the time, I think I would find a new hobby.
-
This is a general shout out and not an individualized comment, but if Lyme's takes hold it is too late for meds. You have to go on antibiotics immediately in order to ensure any potential illness is taken out in the early stages. You really don't want to be managing lyme's symptoms forever.

Picked one up in Utica last year. Went straight for the meds. Our cats here in Erie have had 'em once or twice.

Do we get to see the deer/human?

How To Get Topo Maps In Google Earth
The_Field_Ager replied to EspressoBuzz's topic in General Hunting
Most counties have their own mapping system with topo. -
I use an old Darton Magnum. It is about 10/12 years old (maybe older 2001)and took down my 10 pointer this season. It is fast and quiet. Nothing wrong with it at all.

It's an epidemic. Liberal policies turn cities into places where even they no longer want to live. Then they move to the country and bring their stinking attitudes with them. It will only get worse as long as liberalism remains as vocal and influential as it currently is. Liberalism = destruction and decay.

Basically my set-up. Even over 20 yards the single pin can start to obscure a deer's flanks. Can't imagine what you don't see with multiple pins. I notice most of the tv show bow hunters are single pins guys too.

10 point is butchered and packaged. Can't wait to get my euro mount done now. A quick boil, and then I will bury the head and let the bugs do the rest. -

Pulled the camera on my swamp property where I encountered an 8 point under my stand 2 Sundays ago. He was on cam working the scrape. The camera spooked the crap out of him though. A smaller 6 and a couple of doe seemed unconcerned. I think I will take my nieces out to hunt this spot. -

Heading out to my other property to check the camera over the natural scrape I found. It's been over a week. Should be an interesting pull. -
Beats my first deer (1 pointer). Well done. Two of my nieces got certified this year and I will be spending a good of deal gun season with them. Can't wait.
