Here's a nice little article showing the difference between box lock/box w/ plates/sidelock...... http://www.dogsanddoubles.com/2011/09/sidelock-or-boxlock-see-if-you-can-tell/ And this is a good resource for understanding what many terms mean with good pics; http://www.hallowellco.com/abbrevia.htm For example; http://www.hallowellco.com/boxlock.htm#Boxlock http://www.hallowellco.com/sidelock%20definition.htm

Rather large red-squirrel??
Dinsdale replied to BlasterMaster42's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
HA!.....I get grief for that on another forum too. Squirrels on a rock; I have a 6.5x55 on order, wasn't happy with the wood on one that came, waiting on new import batch for better selection. -

You get to take red squirrel year round; classed as an invasive species. Just need a small game tag. "The few unprotected species include porcupine, red squirrel, woodchuck, English sparrow, starling, rock pigeon, and monk parakeet. Unprotected species may be taken at any time without limit. A hunting license is required to hunt unprotected wildlife with a bow or firearm." -

You are only supposed to take them if they are a nuisance animal or causing damage.......they are classed like rats or mice. http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/81531.html -

Fair enough to keep the site clean.... Those things get into my shop; nothing gets to come out of there alive. -
Good luck on getting another chance. You get a shot at that Ibex yet.

In the Hudson Valley and most of the reds are that sized..... -
Short answer is there is just a few public land places in Dutchess; any else is private and requires permission. Go here to click on local county map; http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7804.html Not all the state land listed is huntable, some of the parks have their own regs for hunting and fishing. The MUA and WMA that are listed are.

Feeding deer legal again
Dinsdale replied to Dinsdale's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
@ Mike rossi.....if you are following that PA outbreak check out this thread..... PA screwed up containment by having one deer escape and some of those deer from that contaminated farm ended up in IN. where they escaped! http://www.hudsonvalleysportsman.com/index.php/topic,8176.msg81040.html#msg81040 What a cluster f@#$, that mess is going to become in the name of inches for dollars. -
Gun broker always has a few in the $300 range......avoid the Chinese hammer guns and damascus steel barrels......look for good shipping terms. Find an FFL along the drive for cheap that'll sell to a city address. You'd increase your choices a bunch at 500 all in. JMO.

And the biggest amount of law breakin', truth stretchin', deer huntin' poachers ever did walk the face of the earth. Bubba said so. LOL

Is this common to get an offer on property via mail?
Dinsdale replied to Geno C's topic in General Chit Chat
I caught that same email hand written and thought it was just a faux pas. LOL 6 month deal is kinda strange for a term...IMO I'd be guessing you are targeted because you are from out of the area.....I did the same, looking for someone no longer interested coming from NY City up here. Got many no responces, a few no, a couple yes that never went anywhere, and some really pissed off folks who demanded to know where I got their name. Ironic after I lived here a couple years one of them became a good friend for many years til his passing. -

I bought my house like this. I sent about 50 letters out to folks with acreage or overgrown neglected "handy man" special places. Stuff I thought I could swing for size vs price at the time (was out of college about a year). Ended up making a deal with a widow for what was going to be a retirement place when fixed up. She held paper with me making payments for 5 years at about 2 points above prime at the time.Payments by the month and paid it off early...... She got a good monthly income and the tax planning she needed, and I didn't qualify for a bank loan on a what was basically a dump. That said, my grandfather held paper in more than 100 houses over a 20 year span when he played real estate agent in Buffalo after retiring out of the steel mill. So I was very comfortable regarding the paperwork and documents required to protect both parties interests. You need someone well versed in writing up a private mortgage. -

You nasty outlaw...... How far this will go is anyones guess...... -
I do this too......makes a sound in a different direction from where you are. Gives me enough time to swap scopes to a red dot, change ammo to coyote rounds so I can walk out.

This came up on a local forum, thought this was interesting. You still cannot hunt over a bait pile; but there has been a case ruling in feeding deer. As I understand it, DEC is no longer enforcing the regulation as it was deemed vague..... The broad sweeping language of the regulation chills constitutionally protected conduct and leaves law enforcement in a position to arbitrarily enforce the law. See Smith v. Goguen, 415 US 566 [1974]. The literal meaning of words like "material," "deposit" and "maintain" leave open an application of the regulation far beyond what the legislature plausibly intended. Therefore, 6 NYCRR §§189.2 and 189.3( must be deemed unconstitutional as a violation of the First Amendment to the United states Constitution right to free exp<b></b>ression as overbroad. From here; http://law.justia.com/cases/new-york/other-courts/2012/2012-ny-slip-op-22243.html Now if those jack booted DEC thugs can be taken to task as to carrying a loaded gun out at night when coyote hunting; after deer hunting all day......

Good show to all..... Been on all ends of these kind of deals on forums and its the best part of them. -
Sorry don't know how to multi quote but here's an early post of Bubba's from page one. "As I said it is not a law it is a recommendation form a local dec officer." So ; since you hinge the argument on the whats constitutes hunting,ie harassing and worrying, I was thinking thats what you would have at hand and maybe bookmarked for chapter/verse on the legal end. Personally I know a few ECO's (one is my neighbor).....I still have yet to meet one that "shook people down" and I've met quite a few.

Still waiting..........

New hunters need to be prepared for "after the shot"

+1 !!!!! -
I had ibex loin in Spain; it was very good. There are something like 20 varieties in SCI's book. Theres a bunch of goat farms around here, I'd be more inclined to think thats what they ment. A goat is not going to breed a deer as many have stated here. As to shooting, there was a Red deer around Pine Plains/Gallatin area a few years ago and the green light was given to shoot on sight by anyone. But sometimes these can get sticky with livestock ownership. Someone shot an angus steer that was loose out by me, and they had to pay the owner for it. I had 2 pigs get out and told everyone to blast away, but they came back 2 days later and went back to their pen. Guess corn is sweeter than wintered over acorns and such. LOL

Looking for a track driver rifle.. opinions??
Dinsdale replied to apoallo's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
It was a grading system to target a different level of finish. The issue can be Rem liked to change these a bit over time. They 2 different action lengths to add even more combinations. But in general the A deluxe, B Deluxe, C deluxe improved in features and finishes as they go up the scale. IIRC A models are a blind box magazine, no floor plate. B+C have floor plates. The guns get their new abbreviations like SPS=Special Purpose Synthetic; could have stainless, coated, heavy wall varmint etc.....but all with tupperware stocks. XCR=Xtreme Conditions Rifle, they have a vapor deposition coating over stainless.(I have another type of this coating in another brand rifle and its dang good) Etc Etc. Almost always Varmint branded guns feature heavier barrels, smaller bores. Mountain guns tend to be lighter in weight. Sendero or x-treme range are long barrels to make the most of a powder charge of a magnum round. Look at weights and barrel lengths is specs when you want to compare across manufacturers. Hope this helps. -
One of the popular places here is double what most here are paying.... $120 and he charges more if its bigger than 150 lbs gutted. Lots of city folk hunt here and have nowhere to hang a carcass back home I guess. Clean shop and such, and they get great reviews......but dang I'd learn to do one on a portable table off a tail gate for that price. JMO
