  1. Anyone know if Orvis- Manchester still holds the open house mega sale in the spring? They would sell off all the last year demo rods, excess inventory, returns, etc for a song. Bought a few rods and kit that way. Personally you can keep the technical trout fly stuff, I'll take walleye and pike for shore lunch any day.
  2. Those dates are the NY State Maple Producers weekend open houses; For other places closer to home for some and listings of those also doing pancake breakfasts can go here; http://www.nysmaple.com/nys-maple-weekend/
  3. Bondhus brand....L style with balldriver end.
  4. Sap ran all night here. Evaporator ticking along for a few hours now; spot of breakfast and back to stoking fire. Nice to be wearing a ball hat and not a heavy winter one!
  5. Go time here......tapped this morning. Planning for a long boil on Sunday.
  6. FWIW....Cameraland on LI does deals with a couple manufacturers and carries demo/ open box optics with full warranties at discount prices. Bought a few things there and products have been perfect (as has service). Way to own better optics at a break in price; they have lots of Vortex product.
  7. If I was 20 years younger...... She wouldn't have given me the time of day then either. And I still can't afford her now.
  8. But then again I can say no at the dinner table and can do pretty well with a few calories a day if need be, dessert is not a food group just so ya' know.
  9. I think you will also find that the Rifleman series scope is not positive clicks either, its a friction adjustment with marks.
  10. Its not full of propane, its the compressed air source with a full port valve to propel the dust so it ignites. Put a flare like that into regular shop waste with no air and it just sits there smoldering.
  11. LOL.....good stuff. I worked in a shop where there was a dust explosion in the collection system, lucky on a day I wasn't there. Thankfully outside in the blower unit, shattered windows in the area and made a pile of scrap metal of the equipment.
  12. I use mine for animals out of the shop when its clean (no MDF,melamine, etc) for bedding my critters when I have some. Walnut is bad for hooves on cattle/horses and such, so you don't want to mix that in (I would also avoid things like the more exotic tropical woods that contain mystery oils). Yes you can soak up old stain. I get nervous about spontaneous combustion on things like that, so set the can somewhere away from buildings.
  13. Hell of a dog Larry..... They're just not here long enough.
  14. First guy I remember doing a carcass from skinning to cuts was Larry Metz who started "LEM" meat processing equipment. Nice guy to talk to also.
  15. Missed his demo this year, just not enough time, but have watched in the past. Does a nice job, I have one of his books. I miss the days when they brought in the deer shot on crop damage from the night before and did the butchering. Always learned from that demo too.
  16. This chapter faltered along for a spell and one of the folks trying to get it running proper is a former DEC biologist from Region 3 , Dick Henry. He posts regular on a local board and does deer aging on there along as contributing lots of facts about general wildlife. They could use some support....

  18. 12" in the end here too. And 1 1/2 gal bottled from this morning; eh, sugar content is always low.
  19. I've finished off critters for others that were just wounded; and I didn't keep them, thought never even crossed my mind. Folks is goofy when it comes to this deer thing.
  20. Oh....I do that too. I even put pickles on my shopping list as it was mentioned in the syrup 17' thread as something to go with. LOL Sometimes I wonder how any syrup makes it into the bottles, as I'm prone to sampling.
  21. 9" in N Dutchess so far.... Evaporator is humming along, and the only issue is I have no ice cream to put hot maple syrup on. Making waffles instead.....
  22. 50* and sunny today; nice run from what I had tapped. Still haven't drilled main area.....hmmmm. Boil tomorrow and will get a couple gallons.
  23. Hows the battery life on a trip? Have an older model that still works, but thinking of trying a new one on Canadian trip.
  24. Went yesterday, crowds were thinner than expected and that was fine by me, easy to get around. Sat and Sun were busy according to any I asked. Have to say after several years of NRA management now, they are doing a pretty good job. Not near the flea market it was 25 years ago when I first went. If black guns are your thing they had a strong showing for all kinds of toys to handle by names even I recognize and I have no idea what makes one different from another. Surprised by how many Alaska fishing guides were there; much of which were clients looking for a free trip by playing rep., and didn't have very good answers when pressed. Got quotes on a few hunts looking at in the future. Talked to a few new fishing places for this summer I would like to try as I'm planning a trip. Anyone looking for a quality metal case for gun/bow/handgun etc; could stop by Strong Case (gun building 200 isle); been doing business with Tom for many years and own a bunch of his cases (some go to work everyday and some have more than a few airline miles). He has some reduced priced scratch and dings, discounts on new product; and is hoping to get back to Reno with no inventory. MGM welding has a couple good deals on AR500 steel targets. Folks at Eurooptics were helpful as always. Bought some bear attractants to try this fall. Good trip; long day.
