Pyrography - First Buck, Finally DONE!!!
5.9cummins replied to 5.9cummins's topic in General Chit Chat
I think i have upwards of 30 hours in the 04 buck one. I have been involved in art since i could walk. I had art every year going through school. Senior year i was in photography and two different art classes in high school. I also took a lot of art in college. I have done probably around a dozen pyrography pieces. I have done a lot of other stuff, line drawing, etching, painting (watercolor and oil), photography (film and digital), pottery and other stuff. I would like to try wood carving at some point. I started with a cheapo from Jo-Ann fabrics. The one i got now costs about 200 bills. Its got a variable heat source with dual burners and interchangeable tips. Colewood Here are a couple more i have done. The house / clock / picture frame i did back in 05 with my cheapo burner. The elk was the first burn i did with the new burner last year. The turkey was the second one i did with that unit. -
I use to ride sled a lot and do a lot of fourwheeling. This my wheeling rig - http://thumb6.webshots.net/s/thumb4/2/25/31/104822531CRZwEx_th.jpg I haven't had it running in years but i really miss it. With 3 kids and a fourth on the way i dont know that i will ever be able to afford getting back into it. Now outside hunting i do some fishing, particularly through the ice, gardening, hiking, photography and other forms of art. I am into pyrography right now - see the pyrography thread in general chit chat.

Pyrography - First Buck, Finally DONE!!!

Both, moose was freehand but in the interest of saving time i transferred the photo of my 04 buck. I have thought about it. I would feel comfortable doing something with an animal at this point but nothing with people. I know of another guy that does portraits on commission and charges anywhere from 200-600 per piece. He usually has 40-100 hours into each one and his work blows mine out of the water. Thanks again. -
Dinsdale mentioned alot of what i would have. I have yet to backpack hunt but i have the itch bad. I would suggest in addition to the Osperay and Gregory packs the Mystery Ranch, Kirafu, Eberlystock and Kuiu packs. They make some hunting specific packs. Go lite and MRS gear along with the REI and EMS gear. For clothing i like Pategonia for fleece and minus 33 or first light for wool. I would really like to try some Kuiu Gear - stuff looks really nice and reasonably priced. Guy that started that company also started Sitka which i think is now way over priced. I didnt read every post so i don't know if its been mentioned but i like Mendil boots. I have also owned Asolo and Lowa which were nice. I have also heard good things about Kenetreck

Thanks but i am still thinking I need to sand off my face and give it a third shot. Here is another one i have with me. I got a couple more but they are on my home computer back in NY. I will post those when i get home. -
I am sure that some viewed this thread for other reasons than what it is. Just in case you were wondering what i was talking about. pyrography [paɪˈrɒgrəfɪ]n pl -phies 1. (Fine Arts & Visual Arts / Art Terms) the art or process of burning designs on wood or leather with heated tools or a flame This is something i started monkeying with back in college about 8 years ago. I upgraded my tools two years ago and have done a few pieces but its hard to find time to do these. I finally finished my burn of my first buck back in 04. I forgot how unforgiving the human face is and how much i hate it. http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/1217537056050407986ODqLpa ----- The original Photo

I tend to use malware bytes for most issues. Never used RKiller. If you have computer issues take a look at this site. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ I got hit with a ransom virus a while back just doing a google search. Found the solution on the above site. Basically the same thing Elmer had issues with. Re-boot in safe mode and re install Malware and another program. I have had my software block this site before but never a chronic problem.

Im not sure i could handle triplet girls. That gives me a headache just thinking about it. Mine are 5, 4, and 2. I got hope for my 4 year old joining me in the woods. I took her to our blind for the first time this year and she got a kick out of it. Plus she is fascinated by the deer when they hang in the garage. She even likes to watch as i start to break them down. Congrats on the grandchild. As my father in-law would say "grandchildren are gods gift for not killing your own". We got him a plaque with that inscription for X-mass. Where did you take your avatar photo? That balloon was at the Wellsville rally this year - we chased it and watched it come down.

I like that approach And thanks to everyone else.

Careful with that friend of a friend stuff some guys get a little touchy and have a tantrum that it got posted. Now i got to worry about them coming from the north and south. I still cant believe that with all the time i spend in the woods in this county i have yet to see a bear while hunting. I suppose its like deer you generally only see them when you cant kill em.

I already started stockpiling ammunition.

Well i can finally say i wont be the only guy in the house anymore. After three girls i was getting worried. Don't get me wrong i love them to death but i am a little worried come the teen years. Made my day.

Doc You sound about like my aunt and mom. They have our tree down to the mid-evil ages. I had relatives from Sherwood forest (my high-school social studies teacher was a Sherwood - and i am related to him). We have all the records from family in Russia, Germany, UK, Whales etc. etc. My mom and aunt use to correspond with relatives overseas. They have dug up so much info it would make your head spin (mine did). I got a feeling when my girls get older they will get the full picture from my mom. Its pretty cool and i think i will get more involved and read up when i have the time and the girls are older. Just a little busy at the moment.

12-11-11 Went back and found my doe today. Unfortunately a couple 4 legged critters found her as well. Hit just above the sternum. Bullet deflected back and came out mid abdomen. Still scratching my head as to how it didn't get piece of the heart and or lungs.

12-10-11 Well i guess my vest is now lucky or it could be i just went to one of my honey holes. 22 degrees with a light west wind this AM. Pulled in to my old bosses house at 4:30 (same place i shot the 8 earlier this year). Walked up the hill and stopped to put my jacket and vest on 50 yards below my stand. Took another step and had 3 or 4 turkeys bust out from directly over head. Next step sent another dozen crashing through the trees. Just when i think they are all gone i snap a twig and another half dozen take off. Make it to my stand and settle in by 5:00. Daybreak comes and i spot another dozen birds in the tree next to me. Then a hen starts letting loose from directly behined me. Had to be 30+ birds roosted around my stand. The made quite the racket reassembling. I sat for a while and had to try and keep the fidgeting to a minimum but its hard to do when you forget the dam heating packs. At 8:00 i look over and there is a little 4pt standing there so i let the air out of him. Went down to the house and had a cup of coffee with my boss and helped him cut and bale a couple Christmas trees. Started still hunting up the hill to the ledges. There are always deer bedded under the hemlocks on the cliffs. Took me 4 hours to go about 400 yards. Got about 20 feet from the spot where i wanted to sit for the last 20 minutes of light and i get a dam grey squirrel barking at me. All of a sudden i catch movement and see two deer running toward me. I pull up as the walk behined a couple hemlocks but the stop. Its a big doe and her yearling. Then i see more movement and a spike is following them. They relax a little and then start walking. When the doe is broad side at 20 yards i touched one off. She gave a good kick and bolted. I found some short brown hair but no blood. I go back to where i was standing and there is one freaking thumb sized branch sticking out of the side of a hemlock and i grazed it, only damn thing between me and the deer. So i start to track her and i find a drop of blood at 60 yards, then another, and another. She paused at about 100 yards and there was a soft ball sized splatter. Found a couple more splatters like that then she slowed to a walk and no more blood (with the exception of a little in a track ever now and then). She started circling back toward a thicket that they bed in so i backed out. Going to let her go over night and go back tomorrow afternoon to see if i cant find her.

It was just some stuff i picked up at JO-Ann Fabrics, 3$ i think. Don't recall the name (threw out the bottle) its in a squeeze bottle with a fine tip. I did it free hand.

Spruced up my plane orange hunting vest while i had to go out of town for work. Took the vest along and did some re-modeling. Hopefully it brings me some luck. I need to get another bottle of dye to put some finishing touches on it.
