How would you rate these factors in setting a bow stand?
5.9cummins replied to regulat0r's topic in Bow Hunting
1. Funnels / Pinch points - almost exclusively my determining factor in the rut. 2. Cover - Both for the deer and myself (a good tree or blow down) I see bucks (particularly big ones 10 fold more in thick cover. 3. Physical sign - don't pay much attention to it unless its a rub the size of my thigh or scrape the size of a Volkswagen. 4. Food on either side of my funnel is a good thing (better yet a bedding area). 5. Trail cam photos - they are nice but fairly useless in my opinion. I have one that tops these all and is my first and foremost criteria when determining where i set up - PREVAILING WIND DIRECTION. -
Two thumbs up, way up.

pic would help, I can pass it by a couple people and should be able to come up with an answer in pretty short order.

Its hog weed - no question Parsnip will generally have a more yellow flower and usually doesn't get as tall (although it can) and no purple on the stem. Poison Hemlock - Short description is tall, white flower head - smaller, with purple on the stem, and a smaller compound leaf. Poison Hemlock Or Parsnip

Why do it yoursef when you can get someone else to do it for you? DEC Hogweed Hotline The DEC crews look something like this. I pitty the poor bastards that work on these crews. Your patch will continue to grow if left un-checked. Its spread mainly along water ways. I just saw a patch the other day that popped up again in livingston county whcih had been "eradicated". The toxin is a photo-phyto toxin. It has a photo chemical reaction to UV light which can cause 3rd degree burns. Not the best considering kids like to chop it down and use the stems as a telescope or blow gun because they are hollow. If you do decide to tackle it yourself GET THE SEED HEADS!!!! Bag them and put them in the landfill. As for the remainder of the plant cut it down and rip up the roots but cover yourself head to toe, including goggles and face protection. Roundup (mixed hot) will work with repeated applications and some other goodies like Garlon 9 work a little better hope DEC dosent read this, LOL

IMP INFO Photos They come north on storm fronts. As of right now i believe there are only five products labeled for army worm in NY. One of the most popular / expensive is warrior. That being said from what i have heard it is getting hard to find product and or the price is getting hiked. I wouldn't worry too much about a lawn it will come back. Crops are a different story.

Gutchess Lumber is in Freedom. Potter Lumber is in Allegany. Several smaller Amish mills kicking around. But the first two are the major players near there. What exactly are you looking for?

Scott Walker Stays?
5.9cummins replied to sits in trees's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Ive worked plenty of other positions in the private sector and never had a problem. I didnt say doing the write thing was easy. I guess that is why i am considering jump ship which constitutes a cut in pay, benfits and job security. I wont support the union and consitantly vote the opposite of what they want. Like i said unions are half the equation politions are the other half of the problem. You got to start taking out the trash some where i dont really care if its at the top or bottom. -
Scott Walker Stays?

First off i am a public employee and a member of a union (NOT BY CHOICE!!!- manditory dues). If i had a choice i would not be in it. I work with a small group who does not produce alot of votes / union membership. Guess what happens every time we go to the union with a problem? We are given a tub of vasoline and told sorry. I am not saying that political appointees are the answear. They are the other half of the problem (the unions being the first). Currently i have a employee who needs to be fired because they are useless. I have been building my case / documentation / pile of evendence for a year now and i am just to the point where i may be able to get some disiplianry action. This individual would have lasted 1-2 days in the private sector. Why is the burden of proof so high - THE F@#%$@# UNION!!!! Everyone in my group (other supervisors, managment, even co workers say that said employee couldnt find there way out of a paper bag, but they are still here). I forsee 3-4 more years of this crap before i can actually get back to what i am supposed to be doing. I end up racking up extra hours left and right for the work documenting said employee. I dont get over time, comp time or any other benifit - except time away from my wife and kids. The reason i do it is because it is what needs to be done and its what the previous three supervisors could not or would not do. What it boils down to is accountability or the lack there of. Both for the workers and politicans. Get the unions out of the way so we can hold employees accountable and whitle down the managment at the top and make them directly accountable to the voters. I have no problem with public employee pay or benifits so long as those employees produce results. I dont care if your public or private if you do good work you should be rewarded for it. In the public sector if you cant hold someone acountable they slack and productivity goes down. The easier thing to do is hire another person to pick up the slack and the cycle repeats. Or GOD forbid you promot incompetance which i have seen more than once because its easier to promote than fire only compunding the issue. I also have 4 generations of teachers in my family so i think i have a fairly good handle on that as well and i would say all the above applies just the same. My great grandmother use to teach a class of 50 kindergarteners. No aids or help just 100 pounds of little old lady, my mom taught a class of 18-22 1st graders and had the cops called on her, spit at, bitten, chairs / desk thrown at her. Why? accountability or the lack of it. But thats more of a society issue and a rant for another day. Unions are directly tied to the democratic party and the politicians!!!!!!!!!!!! I applaud Scott Walker - i wish he were the NY govenor. He didnt destroy these peoples lives, they still have better than average benfits and a JOB which is more than alot of people can say in this country. Rant over -
If they disapear one morning and you get to your stand and there is a WTF on the tree it was me . I have dont that to more than one poor bastard.

You have a while before your going to see any damage. The closest infestations are Bath to the west and Kingston to the south east. There is no known infestation in 9W. 9R and 9K yes there are lots of beetles in that area. Thinning ash is not a bad idea if you can get money for it but clear cutting it just because is not very advisable at this point. It could take years before it fully spreads to your area. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE ALB, PM me with a GPS or street address. I AM DEAD SERIOUS. I will follow up with someone to check it out. The economic and environmental consequences from ALB will make EAB look like a ant hill. There is no known infestation outside NYC (in the state of New York). Yes you do have EAB - Niagara county was confirmed positive about three months ago.

How about how many deer?

Yup, or red berry, or small fly, or smallest spiner you have. Wave it back and forth in front of there nose (kayak works great but cone works in a pinch - from shore is a little harder). Frogg Giggin

I was pokeing around the other day and found this guy. http://scoobysworkshop.com/ What he says agrees with almost everything i learnd from my lifting coach in high school / college. He doesnt use much of anything except dumbells. He has got a great Lats / Pull up workout.
