Talk About Butt Covering
5.9cummins replied to Early's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I don't have to worry. This is why i send my kids to catholic school. -
LOL I thought i was having a difficult time with a house search over the past two years. Don't be pissed but I saw a friend in the grocery store last week and she said her parents were ready to sell there place finally. I went and looked at it on Monday Took a second look Tuesday and took some measurements. Called them on Wednesday and talked over a verbal sale owner to owner with out Realtors (slimy bastards). Talked to the Lawyer, bank, home inspector today. Picking up a purchase offer from the lawyer tomorrow. The best part is that the owners have taken immaculate care of the place. I will have to do almost nothing to this place with the exception of a new paint color or two. Its got a new tank-less hot water heater, new appliances, sun room and new porch built like a brick $^&%# house. Oh and it is WAY and i mean WAY under priced. Knock on wood

Looking to lease property in Cayuga county ?
5.9cummins replied to NYARCHER76's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
I am talking about comparing a property value to the effective tax rate. Unless you get a tax break for being a condo whats the difference. http://interactive.taxfoundation.org/propertytax/ Taxes paid as a percentage of median home value (rank out of 806 counties) Allegany co. - 4 Cayuga co. - 13 Westchester - 102 Now if your talking about what you get for your money that is an entirely different story. -
Saddles are great places to hunt. The key is to pay attention to what they connect. If you have a bedding area on one side and a agricultural field on the other then you should be in for a good hunt. Bedding areas on both sides are also great for hunting the rut. I hunt a number of saddles and pinch points and usually don't have a problem seeing deer. As for a thicket it could mean almost anything. I hunt one spot that is a overgrown clear cut which i would consider a thicket. I hunt a couple swamps that you practically have to be on your hands and knees to get into. I hunt a old chunk of woods that used to be predominantly beech but beech bark disease has killed the trees and they are re-sprouting from the stumps. I hunt old overgrown ag fields as well as a blown down from a wind storm. The only thing in common they have is they hold a hell of a lot of deer. One word of caution about hunting thickets don't move in too fast. They are thick and all deer will use them as bedding cover. If you move in two fast you can bump a lot of the deer out. I will hunt some travel corridors going to food sources before i move in tight and hunt the edge of the area. You should also consider hunting the inside corners of fields (if you think of a field as a square box and the woods on the outside of the box). Deer will often travel around the field and cut close to the corners vs. exposing themselves by crossing the field. A narrow spot on a ridge or narrow point in timber is a good point to hunt. I also like to hunt field edges on a ridge where a stream or drainage comes up to the field edge which forces deer to the field edge by not wanting to cross the drainage but not wanting to go into the field.

Better yet throw the question out on this forum and get the popcorn ready. Just when you think you have heard or seen it all some one has some question or dilemma that leaves you scratching your head.

I drive through that area a couple times a year on my way to see my sister inlaw and brother inlaw in Pittsburgh. Its funny seening the elk crossing signs instead of deer. I have yet to actually see one though.

Looking to lease property in Cayuga county ?

Welcome to Allegany co. Where the tax rate to home value ratio is 3rd highest in the nation last time i checked. I sold my place last fall. Assessed at 79,000 with a 4,200 tax bill. I feel her pain. I have a good job and pay but either my wife has to go back to work (stay at home mom with 4 kids) or i need a second job. An assessment of 350K around here will get you between a 11,900$ (at the low end) and 25,900$ tax bill. -
Ditto - I would have no problem drawing 80lbs but i opt for 65. You would be supprised what clothes, fatigue, and the cold will do to you. Get measured and i would read as much as possible before continuing. This site has some good info (although i just checked and they don't have everything they used to) Unfortunately there arrow selection tutorial isn't working. Hunters Friend A few things i have learned in my short bow hunting career. Longer brace height = accuracy. I would rather have a slower more accurate bow than a fast twitchy one. Speed is not the holy grail, accuracy is. Weight is your friend especially when you contact bone. Mechanicals and fixed blades both kill deer (although you will need to pull more weight for a mechanical to work properly). Speed, arrows, broadheads, sights, gadgets, doodads etc. etc. wont make up for bad shot placement. I shoot a 65 pound setup with a heavy weight forward arrow and 125 grain cut on contact broad-heads. I don't really care how fast the bow is but i will tell you this - its accurate. Just my two cents.

Lifetime License Came In The Mail Today

Mine came the end of last week. Now i need to get my son one. Wish i had done mine when I first started hunting. Also wish i had gotten the muzz stamp before the hike. I figure another 3-4 years and i will be making my money back. -
I have thought about this on more than one windy day. I shot a doe i had come in behined me a couple years ago. She was on high alert and all i had to do was take my left foot off my peg and i pivoted a full 180 degrees around so all my weight was on my right foot and managed to draw while doing it. Never made a noise.

I use a saddle. I have heard good things about Guidos web. Particularly if you modify the attachment system so it hooks on like the tree saddle. I have heard it is more comfortable but less maneuverable than the saddle but if you modify it you get the best of both worlds. you can still find saddles on EBAY and the AT classifieds

I am glad i hunt public land in WNY I want to see some follow up picks with you in them, good luck.

I have killed my share with it. Its not the beat all end all but it will get the job done. I can and will sit all day but make no mistake about it you will feel it. I use some screw in steps for all day sits to vary leg position. I am 29 and good shape, I would not dream of using this at 74. If your hunting a spot on a regular basis, short hikes, use of a ATV, or have easy stand placement i dont think most guys would opt for this. When you are just scouting / hunting or are going deep into a larger piece of property - those are the situations i find it most useful. I think the biggest draw for myself is getting to the places that no one else goes. I am confident when i say that i have seen deer using this that i would not have ever had a chance at let alone laid eyes on without it. You can pivot all the way around a tree - provided you give yourself a good long tether and plenty of footing options but its not quite what they would have you believe in the advertising, but what is.

Here is what i hunt with. Tree Saddle Not sure if the company is still solvent as they were in a bit of financial trouble last i knew. You can still pick them up on archery talk or ebay. This is what i use to get up the tree. Leverage Climbing sticks Minus one step on each side and a different rope to lighten the load. They are a heck of alot cheaper than lone wolf and just as light once you modify them a little. Even without modifying them they are not much heavier. I put the sticks in this Game Plan Gear pack although my version is older. Pack also holds all my calls and other gear plus doubles as a padded knee rest when you strap it onto the tree. I can hunt ANY tree ANY place i want. I can move in a matter of minutes and go alot further than most any other guy.

I always have one but for the past ten+ years its been a leatherman.

nice Welcome to the forum.

You could build a rope wick applicator. They are good for doing spot treatments by hand or putting on a tractor boom for weeds which are taller than a crop. Easy to make with some PVC and rope. I made one about three feet long with a T at the end holding the rope. Fill the inside with the herbicide of your choice and start painting the weeds. Here are a couple links. http://www.caes.uga.edu/commodities/spray/pubs/documents/ArkansasRopeWickTips.pdf http://www.rbnc.org/pdfs/herbicide-applicator.pdf Two thumbs up to Sam's mom.

ASAT Leafy suite This is all i wear anymore

That's what i was thinking of - helps to read all the posts first. I am not sure its a hollyhock though (if it is, its stunted at best). A good clear close photo would do wonders on ID.
-
Deer thug that's not loosestrife. It escapes me at the moment but it will come back at some point. If you have a close up photo it would help with ID. Yes you do have loosestrife - it generally likes wetlands like Iriqouis Wildlife refuge or Montezuma but there are several bio-controls that are quite effective at controlling it. It has been virtually eradicated from Montezuma for the most part. However down by Ithaca and other parts of the state it is still growing strong. All the loosestrife info you could ever want to know is at this link.
