  1. I would put a stand in the lower left hand corner to catch deer cutting the corner and another just north of the Bedding / Sanctuary along the field edge. One on the north / east side of the small soybeans wouldn't be bad. Are there any good spots that funnel deer at the creek crossing? Any other terrain funnels on the south side next to the heavy hunted property? They will use that strip along the south for cover where they don't have to worry about pressure.
  2. Blind or stand half way out into the field along the hedge. Exactly what i was thinking. I would also say that bucks would be more likely to use the strip of woods between that clearing that your camera is facing (I am assuming its near your stand) and the more open fields where they are bedding. Make sure you have a shot covering the woods between the clearing and fields the bucks like cover.
  3. Don't be so sure. Lots of big deer running around Madison co. I grew up spitting distance from the windmills and i have seen many many big deer in and around my parents place. I love hunting up there, doesn't hurt to know or be related to half the county.
  4. Link to previous post on Hunter Harassment.
  5. Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. -Thomas A. Edison
  6. That is what i keep telling myself Riverhead I don't know how to explain it. Its like an itch that i cant scratch. Of course i don't think being on here helps any. It feels like a mosquito bite but all these photos of dead deer is turning it into a case of poison ivy.
  7. This is quite possibly the most painful deer season i have ever endured. Work was crazy the first week of the season so i couldn't get out. Then i had a three day trip to Ohio (got back yesterday). And no it wasn't hunting related. I just got done with work for the day, i have to go to a church fundraiser meeting later, and then back in the office tonight to get some more work done. Tomorrow is going to be a 12+ hour day. Thursday i have to hold a meeting for my staff which will be another long day and then we leave for Pittsburgh that night. I will be in PA thru Sunday and then come back. Monday morning i have to leave for Long Island bright and early for a three day work trip. I will be behined on my normal duties when i get back so that will mean two more long days and then i am supposed to go to a buddies house (who i have not seen in two years) in Skaneateles for a weekend bird hunt. Truth be told only thing i want to do is sit in a damn tree and i have no clue when the hell its going to happen. At this rate its going to be the last weekend in October before i see the deer woods.
  8. It was Professor Plum with the lead pipe. I got to admit this one has me scratching my head.
  9. Unless its dark and i cant see or I am climbing a tree there is an arrow on my string. I would have missed the chance at my first ever buck had i not had an arrow knocked.
  10. Wait for it, wait for it.
  11. Your a lucky man. I have a great respect for all artists but his work really hits home for me. Hes one of the few people / artists that i would truly like to meet.
  12. Wyoming, Livingston, Yates, Cayuga, and born and raised in Madison co. These are some of my favorite counties. Yates has low taxes (relatively speaking) All within 45 minutes to an hours drive of Buffalo, Rochester or Syracuse. Good waterfowl, deer, turkey smallgame, and predator hunting to be had in all. Plus you are close to Ontario and or Erie, Oneida Lake, and the finger Lakes. Reasonable drive to the ADK's as well.
  13. I feel an itch. Congrats.
  14. You will never shoot a bow faster than a deer can duck. Speed is a gimmick (unless your firearms). Try to take relaxed shots, shots on a slow walk and keep it close. The 60-70-100+ yard shots on TV are BS!!!!!!!!!
  15. Is there a early season on them? or do we need to wait for the migration. Seriously I really don't get this AR thing. Do i like to shoot a buck with a nice rack? you bet. Do a pass a bunch of spikes croch horns and little basket rack 6 or 8 points? affirmative. When the season is drawing to a close do i put the hammer down on said deer that i let walk a month, week or days earlier? that would be yes as well. My family burns through venison like no tomorrow. Generally i can put enough in the freezer without dropping the first thing that has bone on its head. That being said its a luxury and my choice. One hunter should not be restricted just so its easier for another hunter to wrap his hands around a nice set of antlers. If you don't like some ones hunting style or view learn to bite your tongue.
  16. Good Luck What he said, give or take a few deer.
  17. Can anyone say Koolaid. You can not draw any definitive conclusion from one deer. Not to mention a 7/8 fixed blade would have put that deer down. The only way that you can say that XYZ broad-head has more or less penetration is through repetition. Take a look at some of the compilation videos for large mechanical broad-heads and see what kind of penetration you get.
  18. I have a 9H i would consider a trade for 9Y or 9P
  19. Epicormic Sprouting Not Hope you don't mind.
  20. Allegany county could use about 2 of those a month.
  21. I grew up in a house that only used wood for heat. My dad use to heat with chord wood when i was young. We had two stoves, the one in the basement was a piece of 36" diameter,1" wall pipe which was welded into a stove in shop class by one of my uncles students. The other stove was a manufactured stove but not high end and was on the first floor. Basement, first and second floor were all heated through convection. We generally kept the house pretty toasty 73+ degrees. Then he got a job at a furniture manufacturer and brought home the cutoffs from the rough mill which was all kiln dried. We built a wood crib in the basement that would hold approximately 32 face chord. I cant recall ever going through all of it, maybe upwards of 25 chord. As i got older he started only bringing home oak, which is denser, burns hotter and cleaner so we would end up with more left in the crib at the end of the year. He just got a furnace installed so he can come visit the grand-kids during the winter.
