What sites do you guys watch for photos? I know of a couple for the North country and another for CNY but what about WNY? I remember seeing one before and want to say it was a radio station with an extensive online gallery but don't remember what it was. Seems like it was in Wyoming or southern Eire co. I searched for it but couldn't find anything. Seems like Rochester and points west is a little under represented. These are the ones i watch. http://www.newzjunky.com/deer.htm http://www.adkhunter.com/ http://www.syracuse.com/outdoors/

Maybe NY State should implement this type of program

Happens a lot when the guys doing the enforcement get comfortable. Especially with local PD in small towns. The guy has to live with the people and doesn't want to piss them off. That being said it only takes one POS to give everyone a bad name. I think on a whole the majority of guys are good and fair but the "I know a guy" thing comes up and it told and re told to no end. -
Dont matter if its 100 FOW or 1 over your head, either way your SOL. Just got a report from my buddy. I will be out Saturday morning come hell or high water, the later being more likely. We will put chains on the Kabota if we have to. His dad has limited out on perch the last three days he has been out (Sunday, Monday and today) and we aint talking dinks.

Its not going to be the finger-lakes anyway. This is why i am gun shy. Last year a couple guys started running there mouths about a spot on Chautauqua lake and the following weekend with good weather looked like this. ???

By my count in the Hunting regs there are 288 names listed of course that includes the Lieutenants (which i now realize i counted twice on a couple occasions because they cover more than one county). Some counties like Suffolk have a lot officers and others only have a few. Of course that list does not incude forest rangers who do not have as much power as a ECO but they can still issue citations for game violations. Not every county has a Ranger but most southern tier counties do and there are a higher concentrations of them around the Catskills and the ADK park. According to my wife's uncle who is a Ohio resident there is only about one officer per county in Ohio (88 counties in OH) and poaching is a huge problem out there. I dont think its an issue of having more people to do enforcement, its just making the laws we have stick. Which to me means greater penalties because the ones we have obviously are not working as a deterrent. I have had conversations with ECOs about this subject and if i recall correctly the penalty does not go back to DEC but into the general fund never to be seen again. So even if you had an increase in penalty action you DEC wouldn't get anything out of it. That could be viewed either way. You don't have much incentive to get "trigger happy" with the ticket book so to speak because there is no direct benefit from it. On the other hand in a time of fiscal instability it would be great if the guys breaking game laws were paying for enforcement. -
lol - loose lips sink ships, i don't give up my honey holes. I don't mind mentioning lakes like Oneida or Chautauqua because they are big enough that you are still guessing as to where to go. Even on those lakes i have watched talk about catching the big one and the next day there are 300+ guys in the vicinity.

I am worried. I am supposed to be going out this weekend but the forecast has got me down. Buddy of mine pulled a 14+ inch perch through the ice two days ago but i got a feeling that spot wont be safe come Saturday morning. Damn i hate living so far from decent fishing.

Cheap Archery Target
5.9cummins replied to fasteddie's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
This is what my old man did for me when i was a kid. Target was 4 X 4 and he put it into a 20 ton press before clamping it down with the rod. He did that when i was Probably 10 or 11. He tore it down about two years ago because i have long since moved out and he doesn't hunt anymore. Thing was 15+ years old and still looked and worked like a charm. -
Thoughts on the value of a sanctuary...

I grew up hunting a relatives property that was about 600 acres. Nothing phenomenal to write about with the exception of a 60 acre piece of it. The valley as it was referred to had a 5, 10, and 20 acre patches of spruce and pine which were so thick you had to belly crawl into them. The very bottom had two beaver ponds with all alder and willow. There were apple scattered around the property with the inside of a L shaped piece of pine being a solid 5 acre apple thicket. I would consistently see 10-30 deer a night during bow and at the time I only had one stand at the edge cover between the bedding area and apples. I remember days seeing 10+ racked bucks with better than half of them being outside there ears. Even during gun season you would still see deer during the middle of World War III. It was the absolute BEST hunting i have ever experienced. I say was because my relatives decided that the deer were to "comfortable" in the pines and they needed to get in there and get after them. I tried to convince them to do some edge management and cut some of the outer trees and push them into a brush wall between the neighbors property and ours creating a funnel through our property but my advice wasn't taken. It was decided that the solution would be taking a chainsaw and timing a 3 foot wide 7 foot tall stalking path through the bedding area. The spot is still decent during bow when no one else hunts it and i stay out of the area but as soon as gun rolls around the place is devoid of deer. -
Too Many Deer? Interesting article, thought it captured a pretty well rounded view. Cant make everyone happy. :-\

Here is the link to the[/url] restitution law. In short the formula is. Anything over 125 B&C. Additional restitution value = ((gross score – 100)² x $1.65) 23,752.05 / 1.65 = 15,834.7 Square Root of 15,834.7 = 125.836 125.836 + 100 = [glow=red,2,300]225.836 Gross [/glow] -

I took my four year old out on opening day of bow season and took my wife out for the opener of rifle. I will be taking them as much as possible this coming year and my wife wants to take the hunters safety course now. -

3 New York Eagle Seed Dealers
5.9cummins replied to SplitG2's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Technically there are 9 dealers all within western NY. CPS has 5 different branches and one branch that is not labeled as a CPS but another company. Helena Chemical has two locations and Winfield Solutions has another. -

Never mind all is forgiven i just spent a few minutes surfing AT again for the first time in more than a month. They make you guys look docile. A lack of respectfulness is what i was getting at. Nothing wrong with a healthy debate.

Every day this site is getting more childish. I am beginning to think I am on AT and not a New York forum. Some of this stuff would make for a good debate but we cant seem to keep it at that level. It quickly degrades into a childish pissing match the minute someone has a different point of view. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here and it could be a hunters helping hunters thing but if it goes the way of AT God helps us. We are better than this - rant over :-\ . For those of you that don't know AT = archerytalk.com

Are your files named correctly? Click on the file and then click a second time so it highlights the file name. Then move the cursor over and put ".jpg" at the end of the file name. Ex. 15 turns into 15.jpg
