I feel no sympathy for you and your problems. Yes I agree that if someone is illegally removing your signs and trespassing then do what you have to to bust them and press charges so the community knows you mean business. But when you call them your deer and people have no right to do a legal activity, that is total BS. If you don't want people looking on to your property than do something about it, but if it is open and I see a deer, you bet your tail I am going to stop and take a look at it. As long as I can legally park on the state owned shoulder and not disrupt the flow of traffic, I will light the deer or gawk in broad daylight. Telling someone that they can not do a legal activity because you don't agree with it doesn't make any sense to me. But if you are into that whole dictator thing I am sure Gov. Cuomo can find a nice job for you. Also if you want to solve the problem with grains I would say go for it, while you are sitting in a cell, I would be back in the same spot admiring the nice deer you will never be able to harvest =p

Looks like a decent body on him, I also agree that he is not 1 1/2, he is older. If I had the chance I would probably shoot him just because of his body size. Looks like sausage and burger to me

If you need some heavy fire power, I can swing over with the 45-70 Gov't =)

Everyone in my group still uses walkie talkies, but it drives me nuts when they say I am over here at so and so point, Just saw this and that, ect ect. There are people who scan the radio out by where we hunt and I hate giving up information like that, so I always text to my dad and he will have a general idea. Never really seemed to bother the deer any, but I do turn the brightness all the way down so it isn't super bright and obvious.

Well used some Sea Foam deep creep on the bushing and from behind on the firing pin/hammer and everything seems to be working. Currently it is a temporary fix as everything is in working order and test fired a primer after. I ordered the kit offline and will have to drill into the bushing to remove the old one because it won't move. Lesson learned the hard way. Thank you everyone for your help.

After really toying with it last night, I think the spring that handles the firing pin is broke. The pin will fire without a problem, but when I break the gun open it never retracts from the fired state. If I run my finger over the pin it will push back to where it belongs. So tonight I am going to look for a punch so I can push the pin all the way back and fit a screwdriver into the bushing and pull everything apart to hopefully confirm my belief. After reading a lot online I learned that the pin should be cleaned as much as the breech, which I have failed to do. Hopefully tonight I will have an answer.

Yep looks like a call to CVA first before I head to the gunsmith. Thanks guys for the help.

The breech plug is in solid, I have pulled the gun apart to see if I can fiddle with the pin and bushing but it doesn't seem to unscrew like I have seen on videos. I will attach a picture of the pin

Neither, the only time the hammer gets cocked is when to shoot, other than that it never needs to be cocked unless I am going to shoot. That dimple was from me closing the gun tonight and giving it a once over. It wasn't closing all the way and riding on the primer.

I just got done cleaning out my muzzleloader, set it up just as it should be and it appears my firing pin is riding on my primer. I noticed a smaller dimple when I took the primer out last time but now this has me a little worried. Anyone know what might be causing this? Or how to open where the hammer is housed to see if it looks okay? Thanks in advanced. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It was either in 2006-2007, I am not sure I will have to check the tag this weekend when I go out to camp for Muzzleloader. But it was my first time sitting by myself and I walked down a field to the corner and sat on the rock wall. After 15 minutes or so out walked 5 deer, the first deer to go broadside took a 6mm right through the heart and plopped over like the wind pushed it over. Walked out to see it ended up being a little button buck at 178 yards, thought it was a moderate size doe, but tagged it and dragged it to the tree line and waited for some back up to help get it out of the woods. The 6mm was the same rifle my dad used to get his first buck, so it will hopefully be the rifle I can use for my future offspring,

Check this out, the guy uses his pointer to flush the birds and his hawk to get the birds. You always see the most interesting things when you are exploring the real world.

And a 900 foot radius really won't do much for you scouting wise. -

That camera could be convertible to a thermal imaging camera, but then there goes the fun of the sport. -
Confused about the legality of NYS property
UpstateNomad90 replied to UpstateNomad90's topic in General Hunting
Yea I was thinking that too about the further away the date, the less chances. I really want to try it out there because it is a small plot of state land and not really a prime area for deer/bowhunters. Just trying to be considerate of those in the woods. I might give it a shot Friday and see what I can kick up! -
My grandfather use to hunt with this round and numerous deer dropped throughout his years hunting. I am pretty sure he use to use 120 grain bullet and I want to say it was Remington SP's but I am not 100% on what bullet.

Nice post, and great bucks!

There is a local site where they only release pheasants for the youth weekend and not during regular season. I have been wondering if I was legally able to hunt there now that the youth season is over. Anyone have a better guess than me? I tried calling the local DEC office but I never get out of work in time to get a hold of someone and would like to go after work some time. From the DEC Site: Youth-only Pheasant Hunt - DEC offers specially designated Youth Pheasant Hunts. Pheasant hunting was one of the first hunting experiences for many of today's adult hunters, and this two-day hunt will help maintain this traditional introduction to hunting. The Department releases adult pheasants on specific sites for the Youth Pheasant Hunt weekends (consult the Hunting and Trapping Regulations Guide for the applicable dates in your area). Junior hunters can hunt these sites, which are designated below "YH", with a good chance of finding released birds. Sites designated "RS" are locations where birds will be released for the Regular Season. Fort Edward - Washington County State Forest (YH)
