1 buck works for Ohio I believe and other states too that are not swimming in surplus DNR funds.
-
And did you by chance have any trigger work done on your Triumph? I did, so I was wondering if that had anything to do with it (which the gun smith says no way).
-
Plenty of people here seem to not have a problem with the concept of shooting multiple bucks or other peoples tags; so to say I see people pooling their tags is not pure speculation. It's what I see. And my post said "village idiots", so unless you are one, you should not be insulted. Look, I'm grumpy because I deal with what I deal with and it's not isolated. I've got hidden cams, have caught trespassers, have witnessed first hand shots at deer sprinting straight away and just this past weekend broke up a drive from guys who walked a long way to be where they should not be. I don't make things up; I just wish less nonsense was out there and people had more discipline and restraint.
-
Hmmm, were your "wiggles" when the action was broke open? I tried backing out the plug various amounts but regardless I still get the slop when it's broke open.
-
Fletch, what powder you shoot in your ML?
-
Buckmaster7600, can you elaborate on what you mean? So instead of turning the breech plug all the way to the right snug, you stop short a touch? Also curious why you accepted this work around? Seems like they have a known problem and should be offering a better solution like a new riffle or swap to a different model.

Appreciate it guys very much. A few interesting things... I called CCI and spoke to a lead technician and interestingly they said they are starting to see a trend where their CCIm does not ignite Blackhorn when it's brutal cold (he used 10 degrees as example). So he recommended the regular CCI 209 primer. I have not heard anyone else who's experienced this but I got it direct from CCI. On another matter, I figured out my new Triumph has an issue with the hinge pin area and it has "wiggle" or "slop" to it when it's broken open. Called T/C and they said to send in. Brought it to Pro Gun in victor and the gun smith tried to fix it but once I was home one shot caused the wiggle to return. Soooo new gun now needs to be sent back to T/C. Gonna use my tried and true Encore for now. Pro gun said he's got another one doing the same thing. Hope to use the Triumph for Ohio.

Nor can you use other peoples buck tags lol. And I slam drivers because so many of them are the ones pooling their tags and that's illegal.
-
At least we see again why so many gun hunters can be called slobs. And no one mentions that when the 10 to 15 village idiots get together to trespass (ah, I mean drive), they all know that it's very unlikely all 15 will kill bucks. Therefore, they shoot every thing they see and there is no "is that the buck I want" decision because they know the tags are pooled. Sure, if they get to buck 13 or so, those who already shot buck 'probably' won't shoot their third or fourth but until they get to their max'd out tag it's game on. And save me the song about how that does not happen in your group, especially considering the posts above. Buck in archery, buck in regular season, buck in ML... no wonder our avg buck take age is 1.5 years. ALL for the bravado of "got my buck".
-
Ding, ding, ding... we have a winner! The local idiots know exactly where they can park/hide and drive deer while they trespass. Lob 5 shots at a time and sure enough they manage to kill some big bucks meanwhile shutting down movement. My season wasn't poor... but it would be soooo much better if the DEC changed the seasons to not make it 4 weeks of slaughter, part of which typically is in the active part of the rut. Oh yeah... note to DEC, deer are a resource not a nuisance.

Does anyone have actual numbers that show "so many" chose to sit on the sidelines? I'm not claiming to know the exact breakdown but it looked like the entire state voted Red, with the exception of NYC. So was it a function of people actually not showing up like so many say, or is it a simple function of the massive amount NCY bleeding hearts and the weight NYC carries?
-
Did a quick google search... first three taxidermist articles say hang them by hind quarters. Among other reasons sited, it mentions not stretching out the neck, not narrowing antler spread from rope and overall hide care. Stopped searching after that.
-
No expert here, but I've read alot on taxidermy and have mounted many as a hobby. Never heard hanging by hindquarter to be bad for any reason (not to say it's not possibly true but no literature or taxidermists I've worked with have said that). Ropes around the base of antlers could indeed effect the hair. The rope would need to be "tied correctly" to avoid digging in the hair or antler base excessively.
-
Sounds like the DEC to me. I'm often baffled by the lack of DEC and Police cooperation when trying to stop trespassing. No excuse I suppose but no wonder people take things in their own hands.

Not all drives are created equal; nor are the participants. Unfortunately, 95% of what I see are guys who take low percentage shots at any brown object (because tags are plentiful and often shared). Just this past weekend I was talking with a fellow hunter in a parking spot and he was about to head the opposite direction of my land. After speaking he started walking in the field the opposite direction when within roughly 15 seconds a shot rang out. I about crapped myself and turned to see what appeared to be a doe running straight away from him as he lobbed his second shot. He shrugged his shoulders and kept walking.

Having a fun time (wink) remembering how hard it is to find things in stock. CCIm primers... or other popular ones seem out, backordered, etc. Tried Midway, cheaperthandirt, cabelas, basspro, all local rochester gun shops. Any other major distributors I'm not thinking of?
-
I plan to try Parker Ballistic Extreme in 300 gr and also Barnes Spitfire T-EZ. But man, those both are tough to find. Will also experiment with primer. Thx
-
sbuff, I shoot Federal 209a as one of the recommended primers. I've also been cleaning the breech plug with fire channel brush. It's not that I won't kill the deer at 100 yards because the "flyer" is roughly 2"... but it bothers me to not group better. I even fired three primers from a clean/dry barrel but the first shot is still 2" off and the next two almost touch.
-
I'm a long time loose powder 777 user with my Encore and had excellent first shot (from clean cold barrel) consistency. But the down side is obviously having to carry and swab a wet patch and dry patch if a reload is needed. I purchased a T/C Triumph and trying the Blackhorn 209. I spoke to Blackhorn and they claim firing a primer fouls a clean barrel sufficiently but I still get the flyer on the first shot. I also spoke to a ML expert/author and he literally said they ONLY way to get consistent accuracy is to "fire one in the ditch" to get the dirty barrel. But when speaking to T/C directly, the strongly say to NEVER leave a barrel dirty for over a day as spent or unspent powder (even 209) is corrosive. So how in the heck do you Blackhorn guys do it? Seems you either have to fire a round the day of or day before the hunt, or plan to leave a barrel dirty for longer than I like. What am I missing????

Oh man you're gonna get blasted b/c I've been down that road here. Imo, the "as long as it's legal" guys often use that rationale to explain away just shooting every animal they see regardless of the situation, weapon, etc. NYS DEC could decide to allow hand grenades dropped from air planes to further wipe out deer and guys will say... "hey, as long as it's legal"... And we all know how well government is able to determine what is and is not legal

Perfect! Thanks. Surprised it said it takes up to 120 days. I put a call into them.

Not looking for a fight but I get tired of hearing about uniting as hunters. I get the fact that we have anti's and people out to hurt our sport, but I CAN'T unite with the type of people who use fireworks to drive deer and all the other stupid things we see out there. To "unite" just because they too hunt is like saying the thugs in Ferguson are right because it's one of their own... And frankly, I'd say roughly 8 out of every 10 hunters I see I'd want to distance myself from. Sad but true; call me an elitist but I'm cut from a different cloth.

Does anyone know where you can mail white tail jaw bottom to so they can take a cross section to age the teeth? I'm not referring to aging by looking at the wear of the teeth, but the method they say is 100% by cutting into certain teeth. Thanks for any info.

Just seems very very odd. Imo, he clearly see's the camera but does not steal it and then later continues to walk past it when hunting. If he were the one stealing the blinds, he would surely steal that camera. You mentioned multi-million dollar homes. Do you own this land? If not, perhaps one of the wealthy land owners gave him permission. He does not seem too concerned. So what are the details of who owns what? It also seems like the camera is sitting on the edge of a field? Is that a property line at that field? Details please

The government should fun police body cam's for 100% of officers in this country so the facts can be shown. Also, the gov't should send in military forces in masses as the verdict comes out. All on taxpayer money. What is that 1/1.000,000,000 of the stupid taxpayer money they spend?
