This calls for an air strike!

Did you have anyone in mind, Lawdwaz? Seriously though, best of luck with the recovery.

Just a thought here, although blades always look sharp when they are new, some are sharper than others. The primary function of the blade is to slice the blood vessels. If they are not razor sharp, they will still go through and make a heck of a hole, but will "push" many of the blood vessels out of the way vice cutting them. Could this be a cause?

My son just got his hunting license a week ago. His first season. We went out squirrel hunting yesterday and he shot his first squirrel with his brand new 20 guage. When we got home, he walked in the kitchen and said "Best day ever, Mom!" You just can't beat that.

Well said, Doc. When we start codifying all morals into law, we start straying far from the Constitution. When the moral transgression directly impacts your neighbor, that is one thing. When it merely offends your beliefs, that is clearly another.

Things my Mother never told me about hunting

Rose bushes?? Get out of the yard, Doc! LOL -
Not surprised you missed Bigfoot. I heard he was vacationing in Costa Rica.

Ted is (and always will be) on the fringe with his comments, but I watched a longer clip of this same show and he made some good points. Namely, about the over-regulation of the sports. We all know some rules that are just silly. Also, a great point about baiting. Regardless of how you feel about it, you can't oppose baiting deer and then go down to the lake and put a worm or minnow on your hook. We can't bait in NYS, so I don't, but I don't oppose it where it is legal, either. How do you allow food plots and then justify banning other types of baiting?

Absolutely, absolutely true. Give me the budget and a Sharpie, and you would be surprised what I could do without impacting a large portion of the state population.

I love my 500. I am hoping to get a slug barrel this year. I have the 18" barrel, but that is purely for anyone who gets "lost" and wanders into the house.

Doc, I guess I don't your point. You talk about multiple families, but what if I have one house that has two families (say, seven people total) and another house that has one family with eight people. What is the difference (except that the renters don't have any equity in the house)? Until about five years ago, I rented my entire life as I was in the Navy and moved frequently. I paid more in rent than my neighbors were paying for mortgages, so someone was getting my money. As for an income based system, don't we have that already? I pay an awful lot of money for Medicaid, social security, WIC, welfare, food stamps, public sector retirements, bank bailouts, unemployment, etc. and I currently get no benefit from any of these. I would certainly be in favor of a higher sales tax over income tax. That would tax people based on what they purchase, not on what they make. That way people who don't work and purchase flat screen TVs , game systems and $150 sneakers are paying the same tax for those items as I am. If you don't have money, you won't buy these things and no tax.

One would think so. At least they would be clean.

It is sad that people would elect someone like her. I have been to the capitol many times and she puts her foot in her mouth on a regular basis. It must taste good. :-)

Who uses pop-up blinds for deer? Are they effective?
gundeck replied to nyslowhand's topic in General Hunting
I put up a pop-up blind every year and see plenty of deer from it. Have had deer on more than one occasion almost poke their noses into the windows. As long as I leave it for the season, they don't seem to mind it. It is brushed in,but in the corner of a grass field (about chest high) next to a hay field. -
That is great!

Actually, Ovid, down near Sheldrake.

I have to agree with fasteddie. I only have about 50 acres I hunt and I assure you, if I let him walk, the neighbors will not.

We use a Breckwell pellet stove to heat our whole house (small 2-BR). We go through about 3 ton per year and that is our only heat.

With all of the wineries in our area, some have started micro-breweries. As a result, some of the farms in the area are growing hops. When they first started going up, I couldn't figure out why they were building the structures needed to support them.

My brother-in-law pays about $7000 per year for a 3-BR house on four acres in Seneca County. That will get your shorts in a bunch. (Oh, that is school and property taxes.)

Lower the legal shooting distance for bow????
gundeck replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in Bow Hunting
I know this won't be popular, but I think the 500 ft rule is good. The way I see it, if you can't get permission from the neighbor and you hunt that close, you are only asking for trouble.
