  1. I'm a Sabres fan. I've missed hockey for awhile now ! Because what they do isn't hockey
  2. Ha. After nothing going on all morning I just had my sought after bird coming ... Until it started to pour. He shut down promptly This bird is my nemesis
  3. Isn't that great. Yotes are yapping exactly where birds should be roosted( at least yesterday and every other day) It's roost gobble time too. Long morning before fly down now
  4. 8:30 now. He fired up about 300 yards across field. 15 minutes he gobbled over there. Got him to cross field and poof. Whodini bird disappeared Hasn't made a sound for awhile now. No way he pegged me as I could barely see his head thru brambles at 125 yards. If this was easy I wouldn't do it : )
  5. 9h here. Starting at 5:09: 93 gobbles on roost before hitting the deck. Inside 150 yards. Thought for sure he'd pitch into field I'm set up on. But as we know nothing about a turkey is predictable. 12-15 more gobbles on ground but he's off 300 yards and gone silent for last 15 minutes. I'm playing tough to get, calling sparingly He knows a hen ( me) is here. Curiosity killed many a cat ( turkey )
  6. Nice bird . Surprised at no "run and stand on the head" with all that flopping going on. Someday I'd like to film a hunt but that doesn't look easy to do. I'd forget to hit the record button too !
  7. Gorgeous morning in 9H but no gobbles yet on my mountain. 3 quick shots across road and other mountain. Just heard gobble over there about a mile away. Sharing the woods with my 11 year old daughter who currently is sleeping against our tree : )
  8. Mind you I'm all for the signs but two reasons I won't put one in my front yard 1) It lets LE know you have such guns 2) It allows criminals to know you have such guns for the taking. Don't want to put my family in harms way if I'm not home to protect them in a burglary and while we are away on vacation(s)
  9. Congrats!! Nice bird. How's the boom stick thump for ya? Brother has a H & R 10 bore he's had since 74. Kicks like a mule
  10. I have enough to get by but wouldn't mind some more. Found some at Johnson's in Lockport. $5 per 50 of Winchester Wildcats. No thanks. Dicks...nope....Wally world...nope....Gander....nope
  11. Didn't know they made .22 shells anymore!
  12. They get a free pass from me.
  13. Recent full moon tends to screw up the birds from talking from what I've experienced over the years. Keep plugging away
  14. If it was easy most of us wouldn't do it. Hang in there. Sounds like you're putting your time in. It'll happen when you least expect it If you're calling in birds successfully and they are just hanging up I wouldn't run and gun . Try some soft purrs(and I mean soft. softer than you think you should be) and scratching in the leaves. Are you running decoys?
  15. I by no means would assume that unless perhaps it's heavily hunted public land. And at that point he maybe shutting down as he's been called at numerous times and or spooked a bunch. My brother had 8 strutters in the field the other day. Massive fight ensued. They we're ripping all morning. Just got text this morning. Not a gobble. This is private land. Birds react differently every day. Persistence pays off. Which makes it fun
  16. You're on track by mimicking the hens. If I hear them/her yelp and know she's with the longbeard I'll duplicate it with one more. Ex she yelps 3x ,I'll yelp 4x If you get her PO'd enough she'll come in and bring the clan with her. Good luck
  17. Depends on the tree canopy . Early on I'm sitting and set up by 4:45. After the leaves start to pop and birds can't see me sneaking in as easily it's a little later
  18. Bought Hunters Specialties pop up for $50 Have used it 3x with daughter now. It's great. Only used the support rods first time and skipped the last 2x. Never staked it in and had some decent winds and it didn't budge. Weighs 14 pounds and comes in a nice double strap bag. Zippered door(zippers were pretty quiet) and three zippered flaps you can zip down as much as you want or opt to shoot thru camo mesh winow panes
  19. Every bird I've ever shot seems like clone of the last :19-20 pounds 8-9" beard and 3/4" spurs. Typical 2 year olds. Believe I've been pulling my hair out over a much older bird now for the last 4 years. Same roosting area every year, same patterns etc. Very tight lipped. Never got him under the gun. Been having fun hunting him >Sort of going to feel good and bad if I tip him over some day. My nemesis bird
  20. I killed a nice bird opening day. Had the next day off and didn't go because my 11 year old daughter wasn't able to go. She lives for being out there with me. I didn't want to tag out before she even got a chance to go with me. Last Sunday we had limited action but this Saturday we had numerous birds ripping. Big boy and a hen hung up just out a little too far for me toting her youth 20 gauge. I got busted peeing later in morning by silent strutter coming to decoy. She thanked me so many times for taking her. I WILL NOT go without her now. Our next hurrah is Sunday the 25th and Memorial day. Although maybe I should I have numerous chances to go myself but won't. Teaching and experiencing the woods with her is what it's become all about to me.She takes her hunter safety class this fall and can't wait til she can topple over a bird with me. It is amazing how quick kids can move when they want to. She was dressed and ready in literally 2 minutes. Keep enjoying the woods with her regardless if she wants to pull the trigger or not.
  21. There's a boatload of info on patterns/pics and combos on oldgobbler.com forums
