  1. I can't figure out the point of the original post, or what the current argument is about.
  2. If I were able to copy and paste, I would have attached the article from today's paper. Just curious about everyone's thoughts regarding Tom King's (President of the NY Rifle and Pistol Association)comments.
  3. Easier to conduct a 'catch and release' fishing contest than a hunting one.
  4. I didn't want to start a s#%tstorm. But, I had serious doubts about that story. Good though that it made it clear that this doctor was misinformed and overzealous.
  5. I'm hoping to find out tomorrow- waiting to hear back from the agent to confirm.
  6. The changes that you made are reasonable- but, I think that you're assuming that the author woudl agree. I don't agree that that was the author's intent. I don't agree that it's the threat of violence that keeps most of us from committing crimes. I'd like to think that it's more a sense of right vs. wrong, as well as a fear of consequences. The author seems to be using 'violence' and 'consequences' interchangeably.
  7. Culver, do you agree with that article? It seems to imply that, without the threat of violence, humans are incapable of following any form of rules, laws, or moral code of conduct.
  8. Great advice. Thanks. I'll definitely check.
  9. OK, I'll have to look into that. From the pictures, it looks like a dirt road- definitely passable by car. But, I don't know how long the road is and I'll look into exactly how the right of way is described. Thanks for the advice.
  10. The property listing states that it's on an abandoned town road with a deeded right of way. I believe the seller is in the process of requesting the town convert it to a private road. But, I don't know anything about that process. That's a good suggestion about clearing a parking area and then using a snow machine or four wheeler. I'm hoping to head up there later this week to take a look. Also a good point about the snow- there have been plenty of years where we barely get any snow until after hunting season. I believe there is an offer on this property that is contingent on the road being changed from 'abandoned' to private. My feeling is that it's really not much of an issue. That's why I was asking for everyone's advice. Appreciate the help.
  11. I don't miss the city at all. Hated that parade- and any others that tied up the UES where I worked.
  12. Noah, do you mean that I'd have to keep it clear for legal reasons, or just so that not too much snow piles up? My guess is that I would use it through the ML season and then not again until early spring. If need be, I could look into how much someone would charge to keep it passable through January.
  13. You might consider getting your own lease and then inviting an experienced hunter to join you. The reason I suggest this route is that it is not always easy to find someone who will bring new hunters to their spot. If you have your own, you might be more able to find an experienced hunter who's looking for a place to hunt.
  14. I'm looking online at a hunting property that is located on an abandoned town road. It looks like a good piece of property and has a nice cabin on it. The issue is that access may be an issue when the snow piles up. My question is this: does anyone have any experience with this type of situation? I'm assuming that I could make contact with a person who lives in the area and does plowing in the winter. I thought that if I bought the place, I wouldbe able to contact him and arrange for the road to be plowed before I head upstate. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts or experience- I'm hoping to head upstate next week to look at the place but don't want to waste my time if this is a harebrained idea.
  15. Any chance they're from a part of Long Island that's taking part in the cull projects?
  16. If you were gonna do something like leaving the deer in the woods, you probably wouldn't take the time and effort to hang them in the trees; and you certainly wouldn't want to leave your tags on them. Something fishy.
  17. They look fresh. Maybe the hunter left the woods to get help dragging them out and came back later in the day.
  18. There were a couple of threads about this subject a few weeks ago. Varying opinions to say the least.
  19. I have the Woolrich black/red pants and they are the warmest pants I have. I've had them since my first hunting season when I was 16yo. I still use them on real cold days.
  20. As far as a coat or jacket, I've been using the Cabelas MT050 parka for a couple of years and it's excellent. Very warm and weatherproof. It is pricey. But, they run sales all the time and you can find it on their website in the offseason at a more reasonable price.
