  1. Thank you all for all the recommendations. I really appreciate it. Now I have a lot of homework to do. Thanks again.
  2. I'm looking for simple. Back country is probably too much for his first time.
  3. I'm looking to take my 4 year old camping this summer. I'm not finding what I'm looking for here on Long Island. Can anyone recommend a kid-friendly campground in the lower catskills where I can introduce him to some easy fishing. Thanks for any advice.
  4. There have been a bunch of threads on the forum related to leases offered by timber companies. I think one of the big ones is Cotton Hanlon.
  5. Wow. Sounds like you've really got a great setup. I was just curious because my land is all wooded with only a few very small clearings- basically areas where a few trails come together. So, i don't have any fields and was curious as to whether most guys are hunting the woods or fields.
  6. Congratulations. Were you hunting in a field or in the woods?
  7. With four birds down, isn't your season over?
  8. I'm pretty new to turkey hunting and I bought a set of Avian decoys- a jake and two hens. I used them this weekend and had great results. I called in a Tom. The dekes were only visible to the bird when he got to about 30 yards. But, when he saw them, he came straight in strutting. My buddy blew the easy 15yard shot, but that's not the decoy's fault.
  9. I'm looking at hunting land there. I'd like to put a little hunting cabin on the land also, if possible. Do you know the area?
  10. Great. Thanks. Lots of ag fields around there.
  11. Anyone familiar with the Burlington area? I looked at a piece of land there yesterday. It looked promising. But, I was hoping to see if anyone knows firsthand about the hunting there.
  12. Why fields in the rain? Just asking cause I'm a novice turkey hunter.
  13. My former hunting buddy bought a used F250 about eight years ago. It was about ten years old, looked great, and had very low mileage on it. It gave him nothing but problems from day one. I'd be very leery of a car that age with such low mileage.

    Ticks

i was scouting my land in Cortland County on Friday and my buddy had one on him.
  15. I have the Benelli SBE2 and love it. Got it used at Cabelas in PA. They have loads of used guns. You might find a bargain there.

    What to Buy?

To each his own. But, I would recommend buying the highest quality you can afford- that way, you only buy once. I have definitely found that you get what you pay for with hunting clothes. Cabelas sells great stuff and you can find some great deals in their 'bargain cave'. You'll want to avoid very bulky jackets for bowhunting- spend your money on base layers that'll keep you warm without the bulk. Good luck.
  17. We pay less in taxes than they do in most other countries.
  18. 'Livestock hunting' vs. 'Wildlife Harvesting'. Ugh. zzzzzzzzzzz.
  19. Just read on Newsday website that the local food bank has received 4,500 pounds of venison from the East End culls.
  20. Agree with everyone above. The only way to prevent theft is not to leave anything of value unattended. I leave my hunting shack empty with absolutely nothing of value inside; and it's still been broken into a couple of time over the past few years. Invest in a trailer.
