Richie as great, as for boning out the meat maybe sometimes he has to rush through it I guess if the weather is warm? Can't blame him really. I think archers forum also nutchers deer? I have never been fortunate enough to kill as deer early in the season.

Haha My buddie and I wear white underarmor treated with the sawyers, we try to get out of the truck and into the woods as fast as we can, we get some strange stares by passing motorists!
-
Tiny, tiny, did I say tiny? critters thats like to crawl into your boots and pantlegs and take refuge under your skin usually around your ankles. They are actually tick larve but everyone just calls them chiggers. I was told there are no actual "chiggers" in NY like they have down south, but who cares they both suck to get.

I used the Coulsons stuff all the time but had problem with the arisol running out way before the bottle was empty. Sawyers sells a pint with a spray head on it and is easyer to use. Its all the same stuff, I just prefer the pump spray. mbucks27 you got me worried about those chiggers now!

Sawyers tick formula guys, I don't know how anyone lives without it! Never got a tick. I don't know how to repel bee's though lol those things scare me.

I can't be the only one thats been doing some scouting. Can't beleive how over grown some of the scrub brush has gotten in my hunting spot, used to be knee high and is now over my waist. Got out on some of these cooler mornings and took some nice hikes, kicked up a few deer, and ran into a small group of turkeys in a clear cut going after grass hoppers. Hows the acorn crop? I hunt the pine barrens and have found a couple of oaks with a bunch, hunting the oaks usually is the best way to see a deer for me since its really the only food in the hundreds of acres of pines. I will probably hunt LI during the week and then head upstate for columbus day weekend. I wanted to put trailcams out but im scared of them getting stolen.

I hunt LongIsland all the time for the oct 1st opener and have seen many tiny deer but not with spots

Nice area Im in a club in the village of Harvard in town of Hancock, nice area with good numbers of bucks and bears.
-
Been using it for years, I wash my gear in scent free and then spray with the permanthrin. Oderless and I have not gotten a tick in 6 years. I also used it scouting in august and september on LI and never got a tick.

Yea my local guy gave me the headsup, I just bought everything one by one.

Was very active when the site was empirehunting.com but I missed last season do to a serious injury so I was pretty quiet on here. Been shooting the bow a bit and did some scouting out in my area on the island on cooler mornings and have been seeing deer. I hunt public land in the central Pine Barrens for the last 7 years since I started driving in Highschool and have taken some deer. It's wierd to hunt a spot year after year and then have to sit out wondering if someone else is hunting it lol. I hunt the island during the week after class and my days off, and usually head upstate to 4W whenever I have a weekend off. Just kind of saying hello and getting back in the swing of things.

DMP's selection available today - What did you get!?

Got 4W and 1C -
I know axactly what you mean, I make my own flies for fishing and decoys for duckhunting. After years of aquiring stuff you soon have no need to buy anything. Not really off topic, all info is useful.

I was just talking about the shafts, I can get a really good price on them so I was just asking. The only thing I see is the grains per inch are much lower on alot of arrows that they call for my weight and arrow length. As for building your own arrows its more of a labor of love, after buying everything your not really saving much.
-
I shoot Beman ICS Camo hunter 340's at 10 gr. per inche. Im shooting 30.5" arrows with 70lbs of draw weight. I want to upgrade to the new 340 bone collectors with the xnocks, and they are 9.5 gr per inch or 10.4, not sure which ones to get? Also I assume with the slimmer arrows I might have to move my rest up a hair.

Saw it in the new 5 year plan, anyone know exactly what it means? Says they "Opened all Suffolk County to Gun season" Anyone know?
-
Maybe without a town permit?
-
Im going to splurg on a jacket specifically for bowhunting this season. Maybe one of the Whitetail extreme series jackets. I really need some tighter fitting gear, my jacket for gun seasons a bit bulky but super warm. And $300+ to pay for it! lol

Huge wildfires in Ridge and Suffolk County on Long Island
sssurfertim replied to JimmyDaSavage's topic in Region 1
Good for the woods but not for the people, hope it stays away from houses. DEC used to make controlled burns but in the last 12 years or more have not done so due to budget cuts. One of my spots is a place of an old controlled burn and the woods are alot healthier. Hope it does not harm anyone though. -
Just say this post, I have seen deer more than once in the JFK bird santuary next to Tobay beach. I fish alot back there and pass through it while duckhunting all winter. Saw 2 nice bucks together last fall. Plenty of land for them to hide over there, fresh water, and some woods. Also found tracks on a bigger island off copeige this season while duckhunting.

I tie my own, very easy when you get the hang of it.
-
Thats a good idea, I wax the string alot but heating it might make it last.
-
Beeman camohunter shaft?
-
How long will a bow string last? My Martin compound I bought about 4 years ago still performs like it always did but is starting to show some string wear, nothing crazy, just getting "fuzzy" in some spots. I figured this is the best time of year to change it out. Also can they remount my peep, nock, and string leeches right away? or does it have to stretch out first?
