  1. I don't care what anyone wants to use its the hour later "I can't find blood" that drives me nuts! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. To each's own if you don't want it public and want to use pm that's what they're there for. The only statement I will make on this topic is for everyone to please refrain from the "just smoked one" on the live from the woods page! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. 8 yard broadside shot. 155gn Barnes bullet hand loaded to 1180fps. Deer died in 10yds bullet broken ribs in and out and exited. It was a 60lb doe in North Carolina in a spot where I wasn't comfortable using a rifle and couldn't draw a bow because of a shoulder surgery. I don't recommend a 40 for deer. 4. I have killed a few deer with handguns. Some with 45colt and a couple with a 10mm glock and one with a .40cal glock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Finally the weather for NZ opening day is on the 14day forecast! Looks like 66 and rain for opening day, sounds perfect to me! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. 5h and 5f Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I am down to 12 days, I'm as ready as I ever am. I have a few stands I haven't gotten to around home, some brush hogging that should get done and a bunch of other stuff. I have to get to the store and get some laundry soap because when I pulled out the bins they stink. My wife switched soaps this year and I'm pretty sure every deer i have killed is when my clothes were washed in tide laundry soap so I have to go get some before season. Other than that I am ready to be in the woods! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I keep hearing people talking about practice and I honestly think practice can make you or break you as an archer. There is such a thing as bad practice and unfortunately I think most archery hunters practice wrong. Shooting the same target at the same distances after your bow is tuned and sighted in is no longer good practice. I also think for hunters the guys who go out and shoot 10+ arrows a session aren't doing themselves any favors either. My training regiment has been the same for a few years now and this year I took it to the next level as I have not shot more than 1 arrow in a session since around the 20th of August. I try to take my shot 1st thing in the morning or at last legal light and I have shot from everywhere from below the target to extreme angles from 5-100yds. Once your bow is set and ready I honestly believe that less is more when it comes to practice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Welcome aboard, you're less than an hr away from some big country that you can really stretch your on in the ADK's. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Lol, in my previous occupation I did a little long range shooting and a little instructing of long range shooting and I'm hear to tell you that are incorrect. On the first part of your post, the second part is opinions based and not worth arguing over. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. It was me who said that one of the hunting properties I bought was a bad investment. Buying your own doesn't fix all the problems and about the only things it guarantees you is that you will have a spot to hunt and you will be paying for it. I could fill the next 2 pages with problems I have had with other people being on my properties without my permission and ruining hunting days/seasons. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I knew I was close so I was in creep mode, wet leaves helped. It was dead calm. He got up, jumped and tipped over. Drag was a little over a mile over a mountain. I think that was 2013 and I started hunting the ADK's with a bow in 04 but missed a few years while deployed so I would say I was around 40 days hunting dark to dark before I killed him. The funny thing is the first day I ever carried a bow in the ADK's I could have killed a 4pt/ a spike that were bedded together under a spruce in a downpour. I got about 20yds from them before I realized they were too small for me to shoot and backed out. I remember thinking this ain't going to be to hard, 40days and a couple hundred miles later and I finally did it. I don't put near the effort into it now that I did. It was a bucket list thing and now that I killed a mature buck still hunting up there it isn't as high on the list. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. It was only about a 90" buck but I had a euro done and he sits pretty prominently in the trophy room. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I jumped him and tracked him on wet ground into a deep ravine and had a good idea he bedded back down so I got on the edge of the ravine and snuck up beside him while he was laying watching his back trail. I shot him in his bed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. In 10 years I have killed 1. Let probably 10 small bucks go but shot 1 179lb 8pt. At 11 yds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I agree completely I would rather every buck I shoot be under 25yds, but I rarely hunt from a tree stand and 90% of my archery hunting is still hunting in the Adirondacks where chances are very few and far between and I want to be able to capitalize on any chance I get. I could kill a buck at home from a tree stand pretty easily but hunting my way in the ADK's is what I live for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Before they do that they have to lift their leg. If their leg is still down my arrow is there before their body is moving. Not getting in to a peeing match and the last thing that I want to do is suggest anyone shoot beyond they're comfort zone but the 25-30yd max range thing is almost exclusively a north east thing. Shoot however far you feel comfortable. I have killed a pile of deer with my bow and I tend to shoot further than most other northeastern hunters. It is something I work on year round shoot very heavy poundage and a pretty fast bow. The thing I find funny is that 30years ago the average compound was shooting 200-225fps and the popular max range was 25-30yds. Now the average bow is shooting a 100fps faster yet the max range hasn't been extended. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I have found that deer tend to jump string more for the 25-35yd shots than further. I haven't shot enough deer at beyond 45 to have a very accurate assessment but the few I have shot at that distance none have jumped string yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I rounded, this is one of the few I haven't cut. If it weren't for stupid laws it would likely be shorter! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I have become pretty fond of my Henry big loop 22 with a 16" barrel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Oh yea, even better! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. You literally said anyone with a decent rifle and a leadsled can shoot a 1" group at 200yds then said your wby's do it. What I'm telling you is you're wrong. Very very very few rifles are mechanically capable of .5moa that's locked in a vise with a pull string or electric trigger. If you can consistently get better than mechanical Moa good on ya but you're the minority. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I have a 270 wby that I took on trade that is going I already offloaded and will be picked up tomorrow. It shot plenty good enough to kill critters as far as I will shoot at them but .4moa it weren't! Ignorance is bliss biz, when you start measuring your rifle shots by the 10's if not hundreds of thousands you may start to have a clue what you're talking about. You either are very lucky or you measure groups like wolk ages deer. I will put my Money where my mouth is and tell you that any of your "dads" weatherby's will not shoot back to back 1" groups at 250yds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Sorry to burst any bubbles but you're wrong. Leadsled or not very few factory rifles are mechanically able to shoot .4moa consistently. I'll tell you marksman this, the sniper rifles I used in the marine corps had to be honest 2 Moa guns with match ammo. 1 Moa is the factory standard although many factory guns fail to do this consistently. I have shot 1/2" groups at 100 yds with a few of my rifles and I shoot way more than most but I would not consider any of my rifle .5 Moa guns, there is a big difference! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I was referring to bow hunting, but if you have a gun that will shoot a 1" group at 250yds I would love to see it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
