  1. Well one week is in the books what's everyone feeling a so far. I have hunted 6 out of 7 mornings and been on birds everyday. I think numbers are slightly up. I think they are behind on the breeding cycle compared to the last few years so maybe back to"normal"? I have saw a lot of big flocks that haven't broken up yet. All in all I think the next week or so should really be good as soon as the weather settles down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Chasing them is the most fun for me. Very often times birds will gobble on roost fly down with the hens and not gobble again until the hens go to roost. My favorite time to be in the woods is 10-12 because that's often when they are most vocal and willing to play. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. these boys are lucky I don't have my bow! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. found 3 more jakes, where the hell are the long beards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I still have birds gobbling all around, 2 hens and 4 jakes at 40yds have me pinned down right now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Wow i managed to find their bedroom this morning. They're gobbling all around me. If I called this would be perfect but I kind of feed pinned down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Missing ain't that bad during turkey season. You get all the fun of the hunt a sore shoulder from the shotgun and you don't have to tote a heavy, awkward bird out of the woods and suffer through some "edible" meat. It's really best case scenario. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I'm pretty jealous, I am freezing and soaked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Wow, I just had a woodcock walk by me. I haven't seen a woodcock around here in a very long time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. A little windy but not a bad morning, let's hope the birds want to play. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Wow turned out to be a perfect morning and not 1 gobble. I'm on my 3rd different property and have saw hens everywhere and let 3 jakes go right after fly down. Haven't heard nor saw a gobbler yet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Other shoulder, thank god Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. The boom stick, I'm thinking me putting of my shoulder surgery was a bad idea, I can't lift my arm high enough to get my hand in my pocket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Well I made the long trudge again way earlier than I wanted to. Got a good nap in after I got in here thanks to remembering my umbrella. Let's hope it's worth it because I have to get out of here early for my daughters game. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Shhhhhh, Cuomo will want to outlaw chewing if you say deer like it, I'm the same way can't hunt without chewing and I quit years ago. I'm sure it's cost me a few deer that didn't like it but oh well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. If I was offered the option of taking a mag load of number 5's or a single .22 bullet I'm taking the .22 bullet every time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. The way I play the game I'm good for 1 a year. Even with my short range setup at 2yds I don't have much of a pattern. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Well who's got a knife because I got a shirt tail that in need of being cut off. Saw the birds heading my direction so I dropped in the creek and made my way to where they were heading and got to where I was going to pop up and about 15ft from me saw a hen coming into the creek bed. Couldn't move and was in a horrible position but the ghillie suit worked and they walked right by all 7 of them followed by 2 jakes and out of no where I had a tom 5ft from me swung and boom shot right over his head and running back into the field he went. Oh well what a fun morning and I love sneaking up that close on birds! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Covered up in jakes right now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Got set up at 2:30am, I have a spot other a hedgerow that is a ditch that runs between 6 different fields. Problem is the birds roost on the hill and can see you coming for miles because you have to cross the fields to get to it. I have been wanting to try this for years. I didn't roost them but historically I'm in their bedroom and I'm hoping they forgot about the fat guy stumbling across 500yds of plowed wet clay a few hrs ago. The stick bow is at home because my bad shoulder is killing me so of course I'll have a bird at 15yds today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. The only thing I have found to be 100% in rain is that they still fly down at some point after sunrise and still act like turkeys. During rain I have killed them in the woods gobbling their heads off and I have killed them in fields when they never made a peep. I personally love hunting birds in the rain, I would rather it be 70 and raining and not 45 but that's more for me than the birds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I think it would be fun to at least try. I wouldn't be to worried about one getting away especially if you had a semi. I have killed a few with my bow and have yet to have one make it out of sight. The problem is if they do you're screwed because they don't bleed well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Hunting was way easier when there was more private land that would allow hunting. I have yet to see state land crowded on a youth day. So it might not open up private land but it does free up some public land. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. All the more reason for youth hunts in my opinion. The youth seasons give us a chance to plant the seed to be a hunter. It thins the woods leans the odds a little more in their favor. Let's face it Hunting is no longer an easy hobby it's something you really have to want and be willing to work towards and not many are going to be willing to lay down a chunk of money on a lease or buy property to hunt to see if they like it.
