My trophy room I showed on the other thread every one of my mounts except for the small 8 was shot in the ADKS and I think all but 1 were running shots a few straight away as I grow up I have slowed down a lot and became better at tracking and still hunting. Years ago I would jump a buck shoot at him get on his track jump him shoot at him..... Until he got tired or it got dark. I was fortunate to be a good shot and in very good shape so I could do this all day if need be, now that I am carrying 20 extra pounds it has slowed me down and made me better at the big woods game. Now I try to not jump them at all and shoot them in their beds but not always possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The only one I know if is the 700, they are doing a current run of them now. If it were me I would look for one of the previous runs due to Remington's questionable quality as of late. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The best way to describe the difference between a 35 rem and a 35 whelen would be to compare them to a 30-30 and a 30-06. 35 rem Is down around 2000fps with a 200gn pill and a 35 whelen is about 2800 with the same 200gn pill. The 35 is very light recoiling and the whelen is on on the heavier side. 35rem is effective to around 200yds and the whelen will double that. Ammo availability is similar if a place has them they usually don't have much for selection. 35 whelen is more versatile for a hand loader because you can load pistol bullets down around 1000fps for plinking and varmits or 275 or even 300gn's for some very big animals. 35 whelen is very easy to make brass because it is based on the 30-06 case. It's amazing but meat damage really is minimal. You and I could be good friends with our love for the 35's I'm going to try and kill one with my new to me 350rem. It's truly a shame that America has never caught onto the 35's Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I had some 270 ammo that I gave to my brother when he started hunting and it was about 10 years old. Shot fine sighting it in and he had 3 that wouldn't go off on a buck. It was about 0 out that day and I'm sure that had an effect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's like asking 30-30 or 30-06, both are awesome and kill with authority! If I had to pick one it would be a 358win. There is something magical about the way a 35cal bullet over 2000fps kills. It's way beyond paper ballistics. I own all 3. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If u like Hal bloods book read the Benoits books. There is a new one just out that I read on tracking in the Adirondacks and it's awesome I thinks it's by Jim masset. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If snow or rain is forecaster a couple hrs. I would rather risk jumping them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Depends, on my land no. I have the confidence that I would have another chance at him. In the ADKS yes you could take 100"s of him and the answer would be the same and it wouldn't be a question. As a tracker those are sometimes the only shot u get and I am prepared for with weapon and bullet selection as well as practice. Like lanky Benoit always say " you have your whole life to get yourself ready for the buck of your lifetime." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Best of luck! Hopefully he got enough penetration to get into the good stuff! Maybe I'm the only one but I have shot my share of bucks in my life and I have never once counted points before shooting one. The second I see them I decide if it's a shooter or not then I'm trying to kill him. I have always found it funny how people can always tell you how many points the buck had when they wound it miss them. Not knocking on your buddy at all and as I said I hope for a quick recovery just curious on others opinions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Buckmaster7600 replied to Recurver's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Be patient it took me about 15 years to find one. The good thing is it cost me less than half what I figured it would. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I bet he would consider it mature. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Can't help you with a base, I'm sure Pygmy will be by he's like an expert on these old war clubs. I'm sure Pyg will give the same advice but on a rifle like that I would think a fixed or variable scope in the 1.5-4 range would be more than adequate and not add much weight. What is your favorite smoothbore shotgun slug ammo for deer
Buckmaster7600 replied to LJC's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I always used them to get on paper. I never found leading to be a big issue and accuracy was never bad either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
If this guy coming to fix my furnace isn't here soon I'm going to loose it I want to be in the woods not waiting for him, do I really need heat? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So you're telling me you just carried these different chokes and slugs afield and the. Tried to hit stumps with them to figure out what was most accurate? I'm very confused. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

We have had these discussions before and neither of us will change our opinions but I'll say this. You're correct he can't perform miracles but he can shoot way better than the average joe just like Mark McGuire could hit a baseball a lot further than most. You can't use an extreme end of the spectrum and call it the norm. I have watched a lot of Hickok's videos and just took 5 minutes and compared videos between this one and one of his glock 20 Reviews and he had a better hit % with a semi pistol with a 5" barrel on his further targets than he did with this shotgun, that's not very good. I don't know how you tested all these chokes and different rounds when just the other day you said you have never shot your shotgun at a range and only shoot trees and stumps in the woods?
