  1. I own a bunch of tikkas and keep buying them. They are the best bang for the buck in the rifle world. Tikka is a tikka action not a howa. It's hard to call a vanguard a Weatherby they are not even close to the guns that have made the Weatherby name what it is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Had a great morning! Still hunted all morning with a light drizzle. Conditions could not have been better! Saw a doe and a small buck could have shot the doe but the buck never gave me a shot although plenty close. On my way home now back to real life again for a couple weeks before vacation. Another year of trying to kill a buck on the ground in the ADKS with the bow has passed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Where in Hamilton county? I have a camp near speculator. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I ate Mcdonalds last night for my first time in over 5 years and I'm almost positive that's what caused it. This couple mile hike out of here is going to be scary especially because I'm out of baby wipes! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I learned long ago dead deer don't travel far but a dying deer can go a long ways after its jumped. Unless I see or hear them crash I'll give them 4-6 hrs or over night. I have never had a coyote bother them. The one thing that can make a bad shot worse is jumping the deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I will be hunting, I'll be carrying my CVA accura MR. Shooting blackhorn with a Barnes 45cal xpb and harvester sabots. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. If I'm tracking or still hunting it will most likely be my 35whelen 7600 carbine or my 760 358win. Around home it will be my 35whelen tikka t3 "carbine" or my Benelli r1 30-06 "carbine." In Ohio I will be using my cva scout 45-70 or if it gets here in time my cva in 460S&W. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. If you wanna tote your 9+lb 11/87 around all the power to you! Me I'll stick to light short and the ability to shoot a few hundred yards in necessary. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Honesty I envy you guys who can sit in a stand long enough to get cold! My suggestion although not very educated because I don't sit in stands very long is a good vest easy to layer under and still can move. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Why the hell would you shoot one? You aren't going to eat it and the pelt would be ruined. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. If they are thrashing I don't like to stab it's to dangerous for you. It's a crappy thing to have to do but I had to do it a few times I try to get on they're back and grab their nose pull back as hard as I can and slice from one side to other just below/behind the jaw. If it's a buck shoot them again. Too dangerous trying to grab them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Possibly my worst day of hunting that I have ever had! Got back into camp about 11:45 last night got up at 2:30 because I wanted to be on the top of the mountain I found sign on a couple days ago before daybreak. Got up there great a little early so I set my alarm on my phone and try to take a half hr nap. I wake up to the most god awful stomach ache of my life! So from about 5:30 this morning until about 1 I was in the fetal position laying on the ground unless I was throwing up. I feel pretty good now just body aches. The only good part of the day was as I was laying there I heard something looked up and a grouse was 20yds from me so I sat up grabbed my junk arrow out of the quiver and shot it. Now I'm sitting on a beautiful ridge above a funnel between a small cliff and a beaver pond until dark thank god I'm only a couple mile walk to the truck and it's all down hill. 13. I don't carry Gause or bandages but I have a roll of 1/4 size duct tape in my pack just for this reason. I count that as hunting essentials. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I hunt funnels in the big woods. Find the thickest spots between cover and feed with some kind of natural barrier and hunt it. I have killed a bunch of bucks in the ADKS and all but 2 of them were shot in a funnel. The other 2 I was tracking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Well camp was a bust today saw 5x more moose sign than deer. Didn't even see a tail today and covered about 7 miles. Had to come home for a few hours now I'm repackaged and heading back up for a couple more days. This is my last chance of the year to get one in the ADKS with the bow. 16. I would bet that my adk pack weighs less than 2lbs and my around home pack is about 5 maybe 6 if I carry rattling antlers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Aside from the essential hunting gear. I carry a 6ftx8ft piece of tyvec house wrap that I folded as small as possible and vacume sealed into a small rectangle that fits in my fanny pack, an all weather butane lighter, waterproof matches in a container full of lint from the dryer, a life straw and about 25ft of 550 cord. I used to carry a leatherman multi tool but I took that out because I hadn't used it in 10 years. I ok very light compared to many. I cover a lot of ground when I'm hunting the ADKS. I have spent many cold dark nights under the stars in places way worse than the ADKS and I think I would survive pretty well for a few days at least. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Oh how the ma deuce is fun to shoot! Especially the next day when you still feel the concussion in your head! I'm not and never will be a magnum guy but I do really enjoy my 350 rem. My carbine 300wsm is not fun to shoot but it is a nice carrying gun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. This one does to, I wonder what the hell is going on with my camera Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. If you had that good of blood for 150yds she is dead. I bet she is tucked up under one of those prickers. Any deer search around? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. A 12-15" long piece of a branch with a Short piece of rope wrapped around head and front feet that are tucked up in antlers. The key is to have the rope short enough so the head and front shoulders are off the ground when pulling but not so short that you are kicking it. Hold the rope with both hand in the small of my back lean forward and pull. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Damn I wish you guys were closer I would have you come over to the house for the evening. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Well after hunting last night and the debate I decided to pack the truck and head up to camp. Was on my favorite ridge at daybreak and watched a nice buck coming around the draw I waited for him to get passed me and I ran over the hill to try to cut him off while working my way down i watched him bump a doe and give a little chase. I hurried down to the edge of the swamp and got into position. It worked perfectly for her at least she got writhing 5 yds and I was already at full draw because I heard it coming. I thought she was the buck because last I saw her she was heading the other direction. Oh well great time running and gunning in the big woods. On another good note I found a place where I get 3G and I'm only a couple miles off the road.
  24. I have quartered and packed out a bunch of deer but I wanted to know what he weighed as he was a very big deer. I just carry my rifle 30-40 ft drag the deer to the rifle and repeat. It's really not too bad just takes a lot of time! One of my favorite parts of hunting is admiring a nice buck hanging on the meat pole and it's just not the same when you pack them out.
