  1. I have killed 3 1.5 year old bucks...one was my first buck ever..a 4pt...one was another 4pt I got on the last day of the season and the only buck I saw all season..and a 5pt I got as my first bow buck last season. I was super excited and shaking like a leaf on all three..now my opinion has changed a little bit and I am hoping to stick to a self imposed 6 or bigger rule...every persons opinion is different and none are wrong...unless you are supporting hillary Clinton of course
  2. Hmm...had a couple of wind gusts the last couple of minutes that are making me wonder if I should call it quits...don't want a tree falling on me
  3. Its not that your opinion doesn't matter...it's that you pushed it when guys were posting pics of deer they were obviously excited about and then they have to read what you wrote...would yoypost a pic of a deer you werent puped to get? you should have started a thread that said..."reasons you would shoot a young deer" start one and you will get some answers
  4. That's what I have as well...works perfectly fine to range trees in my bow range...never did anything with my case other than remove the range finder from it and throw it in my backpack
  5. I can't say they don't scare deer for sure but I have seen lots of pics posted of nice bucks on trail camera and have caught a couple myself. I have two cameras within 40 yds of my stand. What drives me crazy is I usually see deer from the stand but have a hard time catching them on camera no matter where I move them
  6. It is my belief that a hunter shouldn't tell another hunter what to shoot...as long as it is legal..if you arrow a BB and are happy about it....good for you!
  7. Gave a 3pt a pass about 7:30 this am....wind is howling but I will take it over what I sat through yesterday....don't know why I can never take a clear picture of a deer...must be buck fever
  8. Back home plopped on the couch...clothes all hung in the garage drying out...I can't remember a more miserable sit than this morning...cold...pooring rain and very windy...didn't see a thing. I hope tomorrow morning is better
  9. I need to bring a cloth with me. My binos eye cups keep filling with water...tree umbrella not helping much with this wind.....nothing moving at all
  10. A really nice morning here in 4k Has turned to rain and wind
  11. That is really cool...and he wasn't bedding down until after daylight!
  12. I would be fine for 6 months, maybe a year...after that I would probably have to cash in my 401k to make sure I didn't lose my house. At 43 I sure couldn't retire and I would be very hard pressed to find a job making the money I make now and I am by no means rich.
  13. Mine is boring....The first forum I ever joined was a snowmobile forum and my sled at the time was a Yamaha Apex ER.....So of course on a snowmobile forum Apex was taken etc so I just kept playing with it until one worked. Since then I have joined many forums and have always just kept the same screen name. My real name is Chris
  14. I don't understand how this is possible. All of Obama's policies are working and the economy is getting better. So good that Hillary wants to double down on all those policies. I am very thankful that I have a well paying job but I worry about being in the same situation as you on almost a daily basis. I know this is of no help but I wish you the best of luck and hope you find something.
  15. If I could go on a guided deer hunt in the $1500 to $2000, one that would up my odds at having a fighting chance of shooting a "buck of a lifetime" I would probably do it. I just don't want to do it alone and my hunting buddy that says he would like to do it doesn't have the money right now. I really don't have a passion for any species other than whitetail but who knows what the future will bring...
  16. Welcome, I live in Saratoga county as well. Right off Geyser Rd. I hunt in Rennsselaer County though... Where about in Saratoga County do you live?
  17. I am not overly thrilled about supporting Trump...I hope I am wrong and he becomes the best president ever (hopefully we will get to fine out) I don't understand how anyone that pays attention to what is going on in our country, which apparently uptown does, could possibly support Hillary Clinton. She represents everything that is wrong with our beloved republic. Corruption, Scandal, Crime, Pay to Play. She says she takes classified info seriously but tells our nuclear response time on national TV and this women wants to president. Now on top of all of that we are hearing about them trying to push voter fraud and were paying people to create violence at Trump rallies....Who is protecting the civil rights of the Trump supporter which no matter how the election goes down is gong to be damn near 50% of the people. Imagine if the right was doing those things?? When I see the polls and it show Hillary with a 2point lead here or 4point lead there I think to myself, boy its scary to think that large of a percentage of the population doesn't know what it going on. Now it is even scarier to me to find out that people like uptown do know what is going on, don't care, and are still willing to pull that lever for her in Nov. And we wonder why we are in the mess we are in. The people that vote are going to lead the demise of this great nation and there won't be anyone else to blame.
  18. Funny how the NY lies article makes no mention what so ever of what is in the hacked email.....Can you blame Trump for saying the election is rigged...
  19. I say this being very thankful I have a good job and family obligations....I envy the people that can be picky about their Hunting days...when my daughter starts indoor soccer week after next my Hunting opportunity will be Sunday mornings and I will be out there regardless of rain snow wind or temp
  20. Congrats to both of you and thanks for sharing the story. Thanks wooly for the great pics. No get after some deer so we can hear some more stories and see more beautiful pics!!!

    Rut!

I have one rub on the way into my treestand that has been there a couple of weeks. I don't go searching this time of year either. I make a b line for my treestand and then back out. I have seen a doe and fawn several times hunting. Saturday morning they were together, Sunday morning I believe (not positive) I saw them both and they were in the same area but no longer tied together. If I knew momma was gong to push off the fawn on Saturday night (or whenever) she would have gotten an arrow instead of a pass on Saturday morning. Saturday morning a saw the first buck from the stand moving during daylight. A small 3pt. I thought about using some doe esterous this weekend but decided against it being so early.
  22. I have a Nikon BDC on my Browning BAR. The scope has been good to me, has held zero perfectly, doesn't fog and has a clear site picture and seems to transmit fine in low light. All that being said, I don't ever see myself using the BDC and I wish it wasn't there. If I ever get another scope, i wouldn't have a problem getting a Nikon but it won't have BDC. ( I don't know if the make them without BDC and more) I have never shot at a deer more than 75 yds away so the BDC is useless to me and just takes up site picture.
  23. Saturday 10/15: In the stand and setup by 6:20 waiting for legal shooting light. It was a perfect morning with temp at 29 degrees and a very light steady wind. Got the ozonics pointed at my 2 o'clock. It took until about 8:15 to catch movement and see my first deer of the morning. I got the Binos up quick enough to see what I believe was a 3 pt with very dark antlers about 75 yds away moving through the woods. My Dad got me a new pair of Nikon Acculon 10x50s for Christmas last year. I thought they would be too big but they don't bother me at all with a harness. How I hunted all these past years with my $29 Bushnells I don't know. Good binoculars was an investment I should have made a long time ago. I would have never known what the deer was with out them. This was the first buck i have seen on stand this year. I tried throwing the kitchen sink at him trying to get him to come in but he would have none of it and quickly disappeared out of site.(I don't believe the ozonics played any role in this siting) About 9:30 I decided to do a rattle and grunt sequence so I stood up and made some noise. I looked behind me in the stand and see what I think is a deer a good distance away so I get up the Bino's and it is a lone doe looking right at me. She decides she doesn't want to investigate and leaves immediately. (I again believe the ozonics had no effect on this siting) I sit back down mad at myself that the deer caught me moving so much in my stand. Start posting on the live thread and as I am writing I look up to see a deer headed down the top of the ridge toward me on my left side. I cast my phone aside, stand up and grab my bow. I quickly realize it is momma and fawn that I believe I have encountered (and let walk) before. At about 20 yds they cross right in front of my stand slowly browsing to my right about 15-20 yds away. They cross where my ozonics is pointed (about 2 o'clock) without incident. When momma gets to about 3 o'clock she looks right at me. Her Fawn is still about 2 o'clock and should be in the ozone stream. Momma and I have a staring contest for what seems like forever, I am trying not to even blink and I can see her trying to smell me. She starts playing the game where she goes back to feeding only to snap her head back up and stare at me. Finally she makes the decision that I am nothing and momma and baby go about their business feeding down past me. As soon as they are behind my tree and I can move I test the wind and it is going exactly where the ozonics is pointed. Now before I say the ozonics worked I have to say that I believe with the rising temps that thermals were most likely in my favor and it is very possible, maybe even probable that my scent would not have been reaching them even without the ozonics. What I will draw from this conclusion though is that since ozone is 30% heavier than the atmosphere that the deer had to have crossed the ozone path although I am not sure how I would prove that. So twice now while I believe thermals were in my favor both times, I have had this momma and fawn, I believe they are the same deer walk through my ozone stream and have no adverse reaction. I waited about 30 minutes to make sure momma and fawn were moved out and packed it in for the moring. Sunday 10/16: Back in the saddle again by about 6:20 all setup and waiting on shooting light. Temp is 20 degrees warmer than Saturday at 49 degrees. It is breezy and i have my ozonics pointed down wind at about 9 O'clock. At about 8 am I catch movement and bring up the binos to see a large doe that looks to be alone off my 1 o'clock. When it gets to about 40-50 yds I stand up and grab my bow. I have a clump of trees that I can't see through in this position but I am expecting her to come out the other side about 35 yds away and if she stays on the path she was on she should cross my stand at about 25 yds at 4 o'clock position. She never shows on the other side of the clump of trees. Damn teleporting deer...she just disappeared. I figure she either bedded down or walked directly away keeping the clump of trees between us. At about 10am I catch movement again at about my 1 o'clock position and looking through the bino's I see a lone big doe that I believe is the same deer I saw earlier. It must have bedded and now it is up or it just came back. Or I guess it is possible that it is a different deer. I am watching about 75 yds away milling around not really getting any closer or farther away. A few minutes later I catch another deer coming in from my left, pretty quickly crossing in front of my stand about 40 yds out. I assume it is going to meet up with the doe but it doesn't. It slows down and starts browsing at about my 2 o'clock and slowly works its way around me on my right never coming closer than about 40 yds. At this point I am wondering if the single doe is momma that I have been seeing and this deer that was coming around me was her fawn. When I have seen them previously the momma was very dark and the fawn was light brown and this deer was light brown. I was having a hard time telling size without the mother right next to her so I couldn't be sure. At this point I have to leave to get to coach my daughters soccer team but I don't want to blow these deer out of here. I wait another 15 minutes after not seeing either of them and at this point if I don't leave right this second I am going to be late for the game. I sneak down as quietly as possible and literally try to tip toe through dry crunchy leaves. I make it about 40 yds from my stand and I see the deer standing looking at me about 35 yds away. The wind is in my favor and it just bounds off. At this point I am just glad I didn't get busted sitting on my stand, stop being quiet and high tailed it out of there to make it to soccer just as the game was about to start. I don't believe the ozonics played any roll in any deer seen today. I guess this is basically becoming my season journal. Hope you guys don't mind....
  24. About half an hour ago I catch movement...Bring up the binos and it's a good size doe and she is all alone. She is slowly browsing on a b line to pass my stand at about 25 yds. At about 40-45 yds I pick up the bow...I loose site of her and she just disappears....damn teleporting deer
