  1. I remember the first time my old man took me out....we sat down for a bit then he said....ok you walk that way a while then turn left walk to stream then turn left walk up hill.....then turn left and wistle a few time till you find me....o and if I shoot stop walking and wait till I wistle....have fun see you in a bit.....remember it like it was yesterday.......now 20 years later it still works like that for the most part when he is feeling up to sit in the woods
  2. Hoping within next year or 2 to get rigged back up for water found some spots just need permission and steel....land trappin for me in 2 weeks.....the 17th I can lay some steel....can't wait love the pics guys nice job can't wait to hopefully add some from my lil line....I'll be happy to do half as good....
  3. Been out almost daily....got up early Tuesday morning and headed to state land in 8n....had to work at 3 pm got there at 630 at 930 I shot this big doe....horrible horrible horrible shot on my part took me 3 hours to track her down and get her to truck just in time to hit the road and get home to work. I gut shot her baf and had a bad blood trail but was glad I didn't have to call in sick to find her running low on vac time. So I got home and snapped a pic 9 her in truck just to send to old man bc I shot deer number 2 with his 270 lol....big doe my freezers full now finally....need one more for uncle and one more for disabled Vet I hunt for as he signed his tag over to me. Worth the blood and sweat to help fill some freezers not to mention the time in the woods can't be beat....I'll be out the rest of week and thru ML season with new loader.....buck reg tag buck ML tag and 2 doe tags left and I will have filled everyone who asked me freezers for them couldn't be happier....and having best year of my career other than the no buck tag....good luck fellas
  4. Yea I guess I never have a problem with it....i did notice up in the ADKs guys didn't have any on and we did and guess what pitch black walking in we sat 15 yards in front of some guy....we ruined his hunt bc I didn't know he was there....we would have moved away to allow him to hunt as I always do....when he stood up to leave around first light was the first I saw of him. It has nothing to do with killing deer they don't even notice it especially when the majority of us can shoot over a 100 easy with gun....it's about not letting someone else know your their......now someone made a good point a few pages back I don't remember who but they said you will get the trigger happy movement shooting guys shooting at you bc orange is easier to pick up....ok.....maybe but the point of the Orange is for them to see you long before you are near them....i have worn orange my whole life as had everyone I hunt with and I am a walker on state land I find the thickest gnarlyest spots I bc an and walk thru them and have never been shot at or toward....I've had some deer get shot within a few 100 of me but that's it....99.9999 percent of guys out there will question what the big orange thing walking is....and I only wear a vest that's it.....seems to me to be a easy choice to even reduce risk by a fraction I'll take it Edit... I don't wear in bow or turkey....squirrel with my 4 yr old we both do and I do durring gun season including ML season
  5. Why are some of you so against wearing orange. ...forget the accident rate. I'm talking purely hunting alone. Wht wouldn't you wear orange if it doesn't affect deer? Why would you not want to see and be seen from just about as far as possible? Why would you not want the Orange on in state land or even private? What if you fall and can't get to phone or anything the rescuers would be able to spot you a lot easier with a orange vest on? I am not in any way saying I support the govt In making more laws for us we already have enough. But orange for half hour each way of sun I'd be interested in seeing as long as no loop holes and what not...straight orange for hour no strings....i consider orange to be like helmets and seat belts they may not always work but they definitely reduce the risk......
  6. Guys I know who hunt with them swear by the Hornady lever revolution rounds. ...i had a 3030 and got rid of it bc personally I was not impressed with the round itself as I too shot deer (with the lever revolutions) and the deer had a little blood trail and little entrance and exit wounds for that reason I moved to a different caliber...most guys I've met who use them swear by them tho....personal preference
  7. As others have said it's really about knowing the property and the guys your with to make it successful
  8. Those legs go all the way to the floor culver? Edit....after looking closer I guess it looks like they are on a table....how long are they fully extended and how is the stability at full extension...most I have seen and toyed with a bit are nice short but loose it as you extend?
  9. Must live in NYC yfk? No state land or anything you could try and get a few quick hunts in at all....chances go up with time in woods....hopefully your next season is better if you don't get out
  10. You guys who don't wear orange is there a reason why have you been busted by a deer wearing orange or is it strictly just not want to look like a pumpkin....i only ask because this is first time in my life ever hearing that some don't wear orange during gun...i was raised to think it was required so never questioned it...
  11. When I trap in deep snow I get someone with a sled to come beat a path down in area I want to trap bc they too will use that path if it's easier for them
  12. 9x no wind snow crunnnnchy had to stop well short of where I wanted to be didn't wanna scare off entire county....good luck everyone out today
  13. Awsome critter....gotta love a nice grey
  14. decent call....knive...subscription to good mag...
  15. Yea I drink redbull I pour in a Gatorade bottle and every time I open it you get that burst of carbonation....another sound is that darn plastic wrappers on lil doughnuts or candy that gets me thinking about opening before going in....until I always forget....
  16. I was just thinking of the amt of guys ik that drink coffee on the sit I don't drink coffee but my mom and wife always have and that is about the strongest smell I can think off
  17. I'd be calling their superiors for sure...kinda sounds like he may have ran into someone down there at some point doing something illegal and now is either keeping tabs on him or just really likes that's spot
  18. Off the mark a little not nearly as horrific but I was hunting a piece of private land I have permission with a few other older guys and on my way down the dead end road on foot I came across 4 doe carcasses right on edge of road that's in a nice quiet little neighborhood. Wth is wrong with this "sportsman" who can't even dispose of this in a more people friendly matter. People around here all understand hunting and have very very few who really say bad things about it but come on the lady's and kids walking and biking around the neighborhood don't need to see this on the edge of their roads...it's a messed up world now that the so called "sportsman" couldn't even make it 100 yards into woods to dump their leftovers....i moved then as we don't need this to project on the majority of us who really cherish the land and outdoors...and grow I'm with you on this scum that needs more than justice to serve him..hope for a good recovery
  19. My .02 on this whole thing is that unless you are hunting big woods deer the chances of the deer picking up on your smell and distinguishing it from the house down the road or tractors in fields I think is a pretty big if...i have never been busted by a deer due to smell that I know of sure they pick up movement but smell I don't think is likely in the rural even country settings most hunt....ADKs and big woods different story tho. They may never encounter a human or house in some spots Edit....both deer I shot with bow I had smoked a few in stand prior to shooting and butts were in my pocket
  20. Yep I looked again myself I believe your right no exemption for rimfire my fault.....good thing mine all sank in the lake
  21. I'm still pretty sure rim fires are exempt from safe act....but as always check yourself
  22. State land sence Thursday in 8n saw nothing till this morning went in woods about 9am shot this one at 930 pretty good day hopefully get another one tomorrow...first deer with the father's 270
