It can be frustrating on public land. Yesterday a friend and I went to State land. We both sat on tree seats a few hundred yards and a ridgeline apart. One other hunter we saw was parked at the trail we walked in on and I saw his tracks in the snow kept going farther down the trail from us.After 9a.m. my buddy texts me that a guy is standing on the trail about 30 yds. from him and not moving and when he got this guys attention he waved and then started waving my buddy off as if to tell him to leave the area.My buddy had been sitting there for over 2 hrs. Shortly after that 2 guys walk in where I was and eventually meet up with the guy standing by my buddy. These guys (I assume) pushed a doe by me that I had no shot at and luckily the doe ran downhill away from my buddy and the guy posted by him. These guys didn't know or care that anyone else was hunting there. As the first driver walked in to me I let him know that his posted buddy was not a very safe hunter.I am pretty sure they did not care.I am glad the two walking in to me didn't have any deer jump up behind me and start shooting!! I understand that is what happens on public land and it can work in your favor but sometimes it is un-nerving.

Keds ? I have NEVER seen a deer wearing sneakers.

I have had 2 bucks run across a trail this past bow season and when I walked to where I saw them standing last I could smell them. PU !

New hunting seat
132 eight pointer replied to MACHINIST's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I had the same problem of being uncomfortable on a tree seat until I bought one from Summit. I can't turn on mine like you can on that one and that hammock seat looks easier to carry. -
So if I understand the problem is firing pin not reaching primer on Remington brand slugs ? Or striking primer but not igniting ?

Shooter was arrested for reckless endangerment.

I found a 4 pt. side of antlers snapped off on an angle near the base in a clearing with no trees during bow season many years ago.Had to be from a fight with another buck and was so fresh that the center of the antler was not dried out.I still have it.

I have never duck hunted and am not sure I could handle all the work involved, love seeing pictures of retrievers at work though.Congratulations.

Don't forget to get Get out and VOTE Tuesday November 4th
132 eight pointer replied to HuntingNY's topic in General Chit Chat
I voted today however it is sad to hear the local news report that at 5 p.m. less than 40 % of registered voters had voted.Even if 50 % turn out that is thousands of people that are registered who didn't bother to vote. How many N.Y. residents are not registered ? I know several, some are deer hunters.Really pathetic that so many people don't give a damn about voting . -
This is the only Safe Act I want to read about .

Halloween buck I found last evening at a State Forrest. 30 yds. pass through with 100 grain Rocky Mt. fixed blade. Deer trotted 30 yds. looked around, laid down and that was all-no tracking needed, never had that happen before.Decent body on him but I was too tired to weigh him when I got home.- 71 replies

I saw a dozen doe this weekend in Letchworth but no bucks. Only shot I had was a doe 10 yds. behind me but there was a tree blocking the vitals , a few more steps.... she heard a noise across the woods from me and trotted off directly away from me. Buddy had a small buck in range but he wasn't positive it was legal so he didn't shoot.

I will be there this weekend. I hope the doe I missed last year comes back and should be another year bigger.

My nephew's girlfriend had a tick attached to her last weekend. Think she got it from hugging the dog. Went to Urgent Care because the tick's head was still stuck to her.Urgent Care told them she was the 5th person that weekend. She didn't need anti-biotics.

I was there Wed. evening with my nephew. Loved the mounts, everything from fish to large game. Nice to have another option for hunting and shooting supplies. -
After several seasons of frustration (missing) I dropped a 4 point with a .35 Rem TC Contender.Opening day 1990 I believe. I was sitting on a camo painted metal folding chair and hot seat I had set up on the foundation of a long gone house or barn on state land in Allegany County. The buck was looking at me from behind some brush and never knew what hit him.I took the buck back to camp ungutted and proceeded to gut it using instructions from an NRA magazine as a guide. It took a while but I got it done.I still have the rack and hide.

It was wrong of whomever took your stand however I would never leave a stand anywhere without it being locked to a tree.
